He was 20 yrs old when it happened and repented over 35 years ago and asked for hers and her father's forgiveness. As well as the elders and his wife. He removed himself for 2 years to get right with them all and God. God forgave him and he did what God required before he was able to go back into ministry. They removed all his sermons from their channels. God's word is clear about the requirements of an overseer. It was the elders of the past that also mocked God's word. No where in the Bible is their a restoration to return a fallen Pastor to such a high position. Man did this, not God.

If you ask me it seems these elders want to get rid of this story as soon as they can. However they were responsible for not acting on what they should have done. They should have called the police this was a 12 year old girl. That is a crime they covered up so they themselves are a part of the problem. They should also step down if you ask me because this was done to a child and they did not want anyone to know about it. Wrong. It's very easy for you to make these deductions when it's not your child or it wasn't a personal experience. She reached out 20 years ago to him, privately, requesting financial restitution which she is due, given the emotional and mental damage she incurred from nearly 5 years of inappropriate behavior. She was only 12. He has a net worth that exceeds millions, and the amount she requested would have been pennies to him. Instead, he offered nothing. Instead, he threatened her with a lawsuit. Then he counters her, he comes out with a message indicating his infidelity with a "young lady", as a measure I presume to protect himself. That's not right to use the podium for that. Cindy was ignored for years, while Robert lived a posh life of wealth. Personally, he should have begged for Cindy's forgiveness, met with her (including his wife), provided whatever restitution she requested, worked with her to get counseling outside of his church, and potentially this situation would have washed away. All this being said, yes, Jesus paid for this sin. I am in no position to judge this man, and neither does anyone else. We all have skeletons in our closet in some respects. Robert and Cindy both need prayer. My hope some form of forgiveness and mercy might occur between the two, not to condone what he did, but to give no place to the enemy. I truly do pray for Robert, as I do for his family, the Gateway members and for Cindy.

The victim's father reported the abuse to his church's elders, and they "dealt with" Morris by giving him a one-month suspension, burying the story, and then putting him in charge of the church's youth ministry. Is that an appropriate action against someone who was just exposed and punished for performing SA on a kid?

I was molested as a child. The reason I didn’t tell my parents was because the abuser makes you believe it’s your fault and you cannot tell anyone. I also question the value and validity of the "Freedom" counseling he underwent during his "2 years of restoration." If this is the same FREEDOM book and small group used by COTH--as I believe it to be--I found it to be more traumatic than healing. At least one other out of the 8 participants expressed the same opinion. I DID become close to one of the group leaders and have benefitted from that relationship and I DID learn an important nugget about extending grace as part of forgiveness. Otherwise MY experience was damaging rather than healing.

This church has proven to everyone that forgiveness is NOT real in churches. They are playing politics. That pastor repented and asked the father and the girl over 25 years ago for forgiveness as well as his church elders and they accepted. He took 2 years off and worked on getting himself right with God, his family, and did what God required. They accepted but now that woman is angry because he went back into ministry. He was 20 yrs old when it started when she was 12. We were all young and dumb at one point and sinned in many different ways. But now the church [because she brought it up again] now is abandoning that pastor? If that is the case, nobody and I mean Nobody will be able to leave their sin behind even after submitting and doing what needed to be done in the church. It is sad. He had the opportunity to humble himself to God and the saints but instead he lied and exalted himself. Now God is humbling Robert. I do hope Robert can be brought back to repentance. I believe he can. But in this life we still suffer the consequences of sin, though we have truly repented of that sin and are saved from the wrath of God, we still pay the price for our sins here on this earth.
The only person that was and is pure is the Lord Jesus Christ. Morris is and remains a sinner like everyone including myself. It is only through God’s grace and mercy that He reached into my life. So, are these allegations only about something that happened decades ago? Is there anything of recent? If not, why not? Are we really to believe that everyone is in bondage to their past of decades ago, as if there is no such thing as restoration by the blood of Christ? Has the blood of Jesus lost its power? Wrong. It's very easy for you to make these deductions when it's not your child or it wasn't a personal experience. She reached out 20 years ago to him, privately, requesting financial restitution which she is due, given the emotional and mental damage she incurred from nearly 5 years of inappropriate behavior. She was only 12. He has a net worth that exceeds millions, and the amount she requested would have been pennies to him. Instead, he offered nothing. Instead, he threatened her with a lawsuit. Then he counters her, he comes out with a message indicating his infidelity with a "young lady", as a measure I presume to protect himself. That's not right to use the podium for that. Cindy was ignored for years, while Robert lived a posh life of wealth. Personally, he should have begged for Cindy's forgiveness, met with her (including his wife), provided whatever restitution she requested, worked with her to get counseling outside of his church, and potentially this situation would have washed away. All this being said, yes, Jesus paid for this sin. I am in no position to judge this man, and neither does anyone else. We all have skeletons in our closet in some respects. Robert and Cindy both need prayer. My hope some form of forgiveness and mercy might occur between the two, not to condone what he did, but to give no place to the enemy. I truly do pray for Robert, as I do for his family, the Gateway members and for Cindy.

If you had ever been sexually abused, you wouldn't say what you just said. Even today, girls are abused in the church. I was abused by a Dr. Also a Deacon in my church.
Both were highly thought of. I was terrified.
Even when I could finally deal with it 21 years later, I was told by the church leaders that I was maligning good men.

As an ex member, I would gladly rejoice when he actually confesses the real truth. Instead of resigning and running overseas, he should have been truthful with his sheep. Yes, restore him when he confesses the truth!

You're right, Mike, but satan often appears to use seemingly upright Christians to do his accusing work as well. Morris sinned horribly, it's certainly true, but I question the motives of most, if not all, of these pastor/podcasters who must feel it is their oh so lofty, sanctified Christian to duty to, not just report Morris's sins, but endlessly comment and speculate because, of course, more and more exposure is the "righteous" thing to do. I wouldn't go to Justin Peters or these other exposers like him for some Ephesians 6 restoration for anything. Tell me they never did anything sexual with a high school or college girlfriend or even their fiancee! They may be surprised (as may we ALL) on Judgment Day at God's evaluation of their motives and actions in this matter. I have yet to hear ANY podcaster or interviewer talk about how Morris needs to be restored (no, not to ministry) according to Ephesians 6. "Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in ANY trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted."

I also question the value and validity of the "Freedom" counseling he underwent during his "2 years of restoration." If this is the same FREEDOM book and small group used by COTH--as I believe it to be--I found it to be more traumatic than healing. At least one other out of the 8 participants expressed the same opinion. I DID become close to one of the group leaders and have benefitted from that relationship and I DID learn an important nugget about extending grace as part of forgiveness. Otherwise MY experience was damaging rather than healing.

This church has proven to everyone that forgiveness is NOT real in churches. They are playing politics. That pastor repented and asked the father and the girl over 25 years ago for forgiveness as well as his church elders and they accepted. He took 2 years off and worked on getting himself right with God, his family, and did what God required. They accepted but now that woman is angry because he went back into ministry. He was 20 yrs old when it started when she was 12. We were all young and dumb at one point and sinned in many different ways. But now the church [because she brought it up again] now is abandoning that pastor? If that is the case, nobody and I mean Nobody will be able to leave their sin behind even after submitting and doing what needed to be done in the church. It is sad. Thankfully, unlike this church, God does Forgive. We ALL fall short. I'm truly disappointed in that church.

A damsel in the KJV glossary could mean a young woman, a maiden or a girl. That is a broad definition and doesn't indicate a damsel of 12 was to marry. Even so, we are to follow the laws of our times. The Bible is clear on this.

Robert was not truthful about what he did. He lied about His sin against a 12 year old and said it was an inappropriate relationship with a young woman. This is not an honest confession. This is a big deal. True repentance is a deep sorrow and a 100% effort to make amends, especially to the one who he sinned against. He just swept it under the carpet hoping it would all go away. He had the opportunity to humble himself to God and the saints but instead he lied and exalted himself. Now God is humbling Robert. I do hope Robert can be brought back to repentance. I believe he can. But in this life we still suffer the consequences of sin, though we have truly repented of that sin and are saved from the wrath of God, we still pay the price for our sins here on this earth.

So, are these allegations only about something that happened decades ago? Is there anything of recent? If not, why not? Are we really to believe that everyone is in bondage to their past of decades ago, as if there is no such thing as restoration by the blood of Christ? Has the blood of Jesus lost its power? However, if there are faults of the present time, that is another matter, isn't it?
I'm thinking the safest church would be one where a pastor has fallen into sin and was exposed, for if such a thing happens again and it is reported, who would protect him? Wouldn't that be less likely than in a church where the leadership has a rock-solid reputation of the past as well as the present? In a church like that a coverup might be more likely, it seems to me.
If a pastor told the congregation, "Rest assured, people. I will not be molesting anyone sexually. Been there done that, and it didn't turn out so well for me. I'm safer to you now than I ever was in the past. If I ever did anything like that again, please voice the sin loudly to anyone who will listen, and I charge you elders to not hide sin that a pastor is doing. Now, do you still feel unsafe?" Where would be the place for sin to hide in a church like that?
However, if there is coverup going on about sins in the present, that is another thing, isn't it? These are the kinds of things that come to my mind. How about you?
