It made my night to find this! My mom always took me to Broadway shows for my birthday, but this one really stands out in my memory. I still love the soundtrack. So fun to see that slice in time. 💚
My first time in New York and this was my first Broadway show. It impacted me immediately and forever. Thank you for posting this. It was a magical night that will always be with me.
This means the world to me. This revival was my very first Broadway show. The recently filmed version from London is great (which is practically a carbon copy of this production), but nothing will compare to the beauty and magic that was this Broadway revival.
I saw this revival when I was in middle school I remember being in math class and afterwards I was headed to lunch and my teacher asked if I wanted to go, omg I was so excited 😆
The West End Revival was one, yes, for it was directed and choreographed by the very same people who did the Broadway Revival. With the addition of 8 more dancers, an extra song, and better gowns and hats for 'Dames' is not else.
OMG! I have been waiting over 20 years to see this again with Beth Leavel. I was in the front row 5 times just to see Beth and I became obsessed with this show and I knew that Beth was going to be a global superstar and I was right. Thank you so much for posting this.
I was totally obsessed with this production. I first saw in previews in April and then over the 4 years it was on I saw it about 15 times. I can’t believe that was 20 years ago!!! I worked in Manhattan and would go to the box office on my lunch hour to get tix. I was so sad when it closed, still my all time favorite musical
This show changed my life . I started dancing tap since I saw this show for the first time. Go into your dance and Plenty of money and you were absolutely showstoppers. Kate levering was powerful, incredible. I saw the show over 15 times
Also, I have never understood why Dorothy and Julian get the last bow of this show instead of Peggy, other than because they are usually played by bigger names. But isn't that kind of the point of 42nd Street? The unknown becoming the star? Going out there a youngster and all that jazz? The bow order should be Billy, then Dorothy, then Julian, and THEN Peggy!
I believe it's billing order, given that the roles of Dorothy Brock and Julian Marsh are definitely played by bigger names. As much as I wholeheartedly agree, many musicals and later productions of some of those shows go this route. TBF, Peggy Sawyer does have prominence in the Finale Ultimo (which occurs after the orchestra bow as you might recall) and stands centre stage to lead the final few company bows afterward.
The London Revival as well as the latest production at The Curve gave the last bow to the actress playing Peggy. Despite Dorothy being played by twice-Olivier winner, and Julian being played by an Olympian or sorts.
@@lazarelazaro52 The 2017 staging, right? I seem to recall (having watched the PBS / Great Performances episode featuring that cast) that Julian Marsh got the last bow as in the 2001 Broadway revival and subsequent stagings. As well, I haven't seen the Curve production at all for reasons I won't get into.
@@dukeofrodtown1705 The 2017, yes. A Clare Halse played Peggy for the whole duration. Brock was played by Sheena Easton, followed by Lulu and Bonnie Langford - the latter are popular in the UK.Julian was played by Tim Lister and then Tom Chambers (originated Jerry Travers from 'Top Hat'!) - both of them TV evening soap stars, therefore were given the last bow for your PBS due TV rights, Equity, etc. Otherwise, Halse was the One. The Curve had Ruthie Henshall (1 Olivier + 4 more nominations) as Dorothy, and Adam Garcia. They made way for the Peggy in the end.

Whatever happened to Kate Levering? She deserved a much bigger and brighter career.
She did some TV shows. Also CHorus LIne in a L.A. production. She was spectacular
I see the beginning of the Chaperone. ❤❤
