Personally I fell in love when I realized that it was somewhat of a colonal AWACS as well as the fact that it had that ECM suite, EW isn't seen a whole lot in Sci-Fi, so its existence is really cool
When Adams says in the finale"I will lead a raptor assault with anyone who is willing to join me. " always sends chills down my spine. He knew they where tough.
I really like the Raptor. It was such a useful ship. I would want to be a Raptor pilot. Viper pilots have only one kind of engagement whereas the Raptor pilot experienced a huge variety of missions. The Raptor reminds me of the UH-60 Black Hawk, with the added advantage of significant range and without the vulnerability of the Black Hawk’s rotors. What an awesome little ship.
Late to the party I know but I wanted to add that these remind me very much of the small craft that traditionally serve within larger fleets, traditionally commanded by a Coxswain; basically they deliver the mail. Some times that mail is a boarding party, sometimes it's a mine, sometimes (more often these days) a buttload of 50cal at anything that needs to be distracted...sometimes they also deliver the mail. It's something I wish more sci-fi bothered to examine, because small craft have some amazing stories; for one of the best look up the landing craft the original SAS used to reach mainland France for the raid on St Nazaire.
One of the first episodes of the (at the time) newest BSG series I saw was the Raptor in it's fully armament mode and immediately fell in love. It reminded me so much of taking the reflective, angled design from an Apache and meshing it with a Hind and allowing it to travel faster than light had my jaw on the floor.
Apologies for the lower audio quality on the commentary this week, experiencing some hardware problems. This will be resolved for next week's video. Thanks for watching.
It's an excellent multirole craft similar to the A-6 Intruder combined with scout, transport, and attack helicopters. I always liked the Raptor. The Assault Raptor is especially useful in BSG Deadlock, where it can paint targets to aid in fire control, fire guided missiles, eliminate mines, deliver marines, and so on. I'm curious to see if they add the FTL capability to them in the next season of the game.
Raptor or Viper. What's the mission? You're talking about two ships with different capacities and roles. The fleet can't do without either of them. Each had jobs that need to be done and for which the other is not a replacement. The thoughtful tactician and strategist respects the diverse capacities of his tools and uses each for the jobs they can do. And knows how they complement each other in the overall mission. Never dis your comrade who's doing a different job. In the end, if you have a skillful commander, the other guy who's doing some other role is backing you up and you're backing him/her up. The mission is everything.
If I flew for the Colonial Fleet, I would want to be a Raptor pilot! YOU HAVE YOUR OWN FTL DRIVE! How exciting would that be to sit at the edge of the Cylon DRADIS range and gather intelligence? I love those big clunky things.
It's a Diamondback Scout. This is why I like it more than the Viper. Sure, fighters are cool but they only get launched when you need to shoot stuff. The Raptor was the answer to every other problem. Simple, efficient utilitarian vessel.
This reminds me of a magazine column that talked about a common airframe that could replace all the different airframe types. They would have the same airframe, but with different functions (ASW, AEW, tanker, cargo, etc.)
Stick a helicopter turbine engine and rotor up top and it’s be right at home in the U.S Armed forces, along with the other helicopter gunships they already have. :)
personally i think the versatility, adaptability and reliability that made sure that the craft was not replaced is also what limited it's renown as it's more specialisted cousin the viper and their mothership's the battlestars
Yes! I have no idea why I even know that theme.. I always played SupCom with the music off - but to this day you can still catch me humming this tune from time to time.
I have to use Royalty Free Music in order to avoid copyright infringement, so its mostly soundtracks from THQ and Pandemic games, companies that don't exist anymore, or any other appropriate soundtracks i can get my hands on.
I’m glad they didn’t reuse the shuttle from the original Battlestar Galactica. I had the idea of using the CH-53 Stallion as what’s used for the Raptor.
Its more like a Super Huey or a smaller BlackHawk.. in the real world navy the more direct counterpart would be an EA-6 ..or better yet.. an EW version of the S-3 Vicking.. since you can use a Vicking as a Shuttle as well (unlike the EA-6)
I always liked the Raptor. Modular, multi-role, and in its most lethal configuration, reminds me somewhat of an Apache Gunship. It's got the same ugly yet lovely look about it.
kumisz it is the first of a long record of Lee crashing ships First the Blackbird Then he crashed Pegasus And after that he rammed the entire fleet into the sun
Yup. "For All Mankind" on Apple TV got me thinking about the "Space:1999" Eagle Transporter toy I had as a kid. HUGE - almost too big for a kid, but realistic, modular, durable.
I think I’d want to be a Raptor pilot. I think I would get more flight hours than a Viper pilot and would experience a multiplicity if missions. I also believe they are pretty survivable compared to Vipers.
I'm loving your videos, especially this. I'm hoping to score a Raptor model kit one of these days. Any chance you're considering doing the TOS ships, particularly the Cylon Raider?
Hi! Great video as always. I'm much more of a Raptor guy myself ! :-) For a change, why not exploring less well-known universes and starships ? Old things like Thunderbirds or The Invaders ?
The raptor is small and doesn't look like a multirole recon, attack, transport ship. I imagine it as a utility work ship floating around space stations. It doesn't scream military to me.
Personally I fell in love when I realized that it was somewhat of a colonal AWACS as well as the fact that it had that ECM suite, EW isn't seen a whole lot in Sci-Fi, so its existence is really cool

TBF, you can't really lead a boarding party with only Vipers.
"Low speed and blocky frame, workhorse of the fleet"
Sounds familiar to me, somehow.
A distant cousin maybe?
Raptors with force shield energy weapons and a cloak be handy for
Possibly, Earth's US Air Force C-130 _Hercules_ you are thinking of?
I was thinking of the A-10. A dependable workhorse often belittled by fighter pilots.
@@TocRat2009 The real question is, can it go: "BRRRRRRT"? LOL
I must say, I really like the Colonial Raptor. The design really reminds me of a real plane, specifically the A-10 "Warthog"
I looks like a helicopter minus the blades to me... the one stub almost looks like the top of a rotor blade
I dont know it was more like a blackhawk either electronic warefare or fully armed
I didn't know the A-10 was a missile barge and a shuttle transport.
As Han Solo said about the Millennium Falcon,
"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts."
For me, the Raptor is one of the more realistic ships in sci-fi. I love the design and appreciate the thought that went into it.

UH-60 and A-10 had a baby.
"That's my Raptor wranglers...Always looking for new and interesting ways to get killed."-Karl 'Helo' Agathon
And there's still one floating around on Earth somewhere after 150,000 years.
Wedge Antilles Yes.
What? Where? I wanna have it...
bad news my dude, its orbit would have degraded and it would have burned up in the atmosphere.
Joshua Perkins would it? Do we know it’s orbital speed and height?
@@MarionetteDuAuguste No, We can't track.
The Warthog of the BSG world. Love it!
one of the best sci-fi suttles

Nice little Gunship!

Even though it was designed for function i think the raptor was the best looking ship in sci-fi.

Yeah no shit.

This would also be an awesome design for an Earth made alternative of the tel'tak on stargate just saying.
I wish this show was still on the air. It was that good
What do you guys prefer? Viper or Raptor?
Blackbird, hands down.
I think i am more of a Viper guy.....althou i would love to have a battlestar :D
RAPTOR
Definetly Viper
depends on the situation... wouldn't want a raptor in a dog fight, but wouldn't want the Viper in anything else.
It's a Diamondback Scout. This is why I like it more than the Viper. Sure, fighters are cool but they only get launched when you need to shoot stuff. The Raptor was the answer to every other problem. Simple, efficient utilitarian vessel.

Grace Park totally hot raptor pilot 😃😃😃.

Is it me or something else because when I first saw BSG I don't remember that big bubble canopy. I remember it being normal and without the bubble.
The A-10 Spacehog lol
Great job. Loved BSG and your channel.
Anybody else notice the Supreme Commander music playing in the background?
Yes! I have no idea why I even know that theme.. I always played SupCom with the music off - but to this day you can still catch me humming this tune from time to time.
+Benjamin Pitkin I loved it! I thought it fitted very well.

+Spacedock PLEASE! Keep using the SupCom theme!!! It's amazing and fits perfectly! :D
Keep up the good work!
check the soundtrack of wargame series from eugen interactive they always use royalty free music.
I definitely love me some Raptors! Great reporting on them!
Playing Battlestar Galactica Squadrons I have gained the most respect for Raptor I would not gotten any where in the game without the Raptor.
I’m glad they didn’t reuse the shuttle from the original Battlestar Galactica. I had the idea of using the CH-53 Stallion as what’s used for the Raptor.
Well dam man. Well done! Great review of this ship. Sounds like something I'd see on the History channel about WWII Spitfires. Excellent presentation.
So it's basically an A10...
yup!!!!!!
...married to a Huey. :)
More like an assault helicopter, not unlike Russian Hind but having more visually in common with an US Apache.
Its more like a Super Huey or a smaller BlackHawk.. in the real world navy the more direct counterpart would be an EA-6 ..or better yet.. an EW version of the S-3 Vicking.. since you can use a Vicking as a Shuttle as well (unlike the EA-6)
sparrow, you mean Viking, right?
Awesome video Danny! :)
Also...the Rapture reliability have always reminded me of the A-10.
The end of the world reminds you of an A10?
did it again! great job
I always liked the Raptor. Modular, multi-role, and in its most lethal configuration, reminds me somewhat of an Apache Gunship.

Real close between the Raptor and the Space: 1999 Eagle for favorite multi-role utility craft for me.
PLEASE do one about the black stealth viper they built out of spare parts. Remember? Then Katie Sackhoff stole it to spy on the resurrection ship...
...then Apollo broke it. THANKS LEE
It's called a black bird if memory serves
kumisz it is the first of a long record of Lee crashing ships
First the Blackbird
Then he crashed Pegasus
And after that he rammed the entire fleet into the sun
@@kumisz2 This is why we can't have nice things.
Lee may have always been breaking ships, but Kara always be stealing them.
That Bridge Commander intro music... nostalgia.
Another cool video. Thanks.
Daniel, could you possibly do a vid on whatever shuttle was used at Armistice Station at BSGs opening?
Either way, thanks in advance.
I would love to see you do the Eagle Transporter from Space:1999
Yup. "For All Mankind" on Apple TV got me thinking about the "Space:1999" Eagle Transporter toy I had as a kid. HUGE - almost too big for a kid, but realistic, modular, durable.
Viper pilot: Why we escorting Raptors?
Raptor pilot: And how many nukes and missiles can you carry.
"you hear that? That's a radiological alarm and it's coming from us"
Usually happens when I'm shooting at Toasters.
Really enjoying these. MOOOOORE, :-)
I swear the way you announce the ship's states makes it feel like your a spacecraft instructor.
I remember seeing the Raptor for the first time and thinking: “That does not look aerodynamic *at all*.”
The Raptor is badass.

The UNSC Pillar of Autumn please

What's the ship with the high-mounted tail at 0:33?
I think it would be pretty cool if you did the Battlestar Galactica itself.
Special little ships
💚👽
the music in the background... is it the theme to supreme commander?
I wondered about the raptor couldn't remember if it had a combat roll
Did I miss it? The Raptor also has FTL capability!
I'd like to know if Spacedock is going to do a video about the First Cylon war era Raider which was crewed by three Model-0005 Centurions?
Is it me or it seems like the raptor does not have a joystick-like the viper has or any type of steering control?
Great job! Can you make other ship video of Battlestar Galactica please? Many thanks
