Art-Something hey man I have two questions, one actually pertaining to tattooing lol, so when you are switching between your needle sizes do you use a new needle every time, throwing out the one you just used, or do you have three different machines all set up with a specific needle that you can pick up when you need it? Ive never seen an artist switch needles so often before, at least on me personally, Question #2 is simply where did you get your shirt because it’s badass!
@@venessaallaby-thompson8352 I use the same 3 needles throughout the entire lining of the tattoo. I used 3, 5 and 9 round liners. I did not open a new needle every time I switched. Hey , I`v been practicing on synthethic for a while now . Personally I use wet tissue to clean the skin , even after I am finished with my linework . I apply petrolium gel before I tattoo and after because it makes the cleaning process much better . For synthethic skin the best I`v used are the ones that are a bit thick , 3mm < because they are more dense and higher quality . They are more expensive but the hole experience it`s worth it . I love your videos man , very informative !
Thanks for sharing that Traceurs!! I appreciate the tips brother!! And you are right the thicker fake skin is far better for practicing. Thanks again man appreciate the support!! 🤘🤘

Nice video brother! For what it's worth, when one of my apprentices want to practice on "fake skin" the one thing I tell them is to approach it like real skin. What I mean by this is USE your 3 point stretch as though it's real skin and always keep cross-contamination in mind. I see so many fake skin videos where they don't mimic these very important techniques and practices. I understand you don't have to stretch the fake stuff, but to instill good tattooing techniques and practices imo one should still act as though they are tattooing the real deal! This will hopefully not lend itself to picking up "bad" habits and carrying them over to real people. Btw, your line work is clean and crisp my friend:) Keep on keeping on!! Cheers

I have so much respect for you dude! Ive had so many artists discourage me and tell me not to get a machine for practice on false skin. I want to go in for a real apprenticeship someday soon, but even simply asking questions i get shut down. Your videos have taught me a lot, im glad i found your channel! And based on what ive seen from your responses to comments, its a great thing to see an artist who is willing to support the fancying of the art in others! I obviously have a lot to learn and I'm going to practice much more before I go ham on myself but I just wanna say a big THANK YOU so much for posting this kind of content. This is amazing.
Hey man! I've been tattoing on fake skin for about a month now. I watched plenty of your videos and first of all thank you for everything! I must be one of millions, but im having a hard time getting my ink to penetrate the fake skin. The place where i buy my stuff told me to sponge out the excess ink with a dry towel ( which i tried) but it seems that it doesnt work, and there is still excess ink spreading out of my lines. I tried putting vaseline before/after the sponging, still not looking good. At first i was lining a too much big part of my tattoo before wiping out which caused the ink from the beginning of the lining To be dry already. Now ive just lost hope and i just wipe it ( not sponging anymore) after every single line. So i have to do the same line over and over for like 10 times to have a decent grey/black line. It seems so easy for everybody ( especially you) to do a clean line, sponge it, and go To the next line. I'm using a coil machine with 1013 RL and sometimes a 5 RL. Running my power supply at 7,8 to 8,4. Im not having the same issues with shading, oddly. A couple whip and it looks good. Is my fake skin clean enough? Do i put too much vaseline? Thank you if your read this! Keep up the good advices and videos!
Im using a coil machine which is quite heavy for my hand especially if i tattooing over an hour.. you're using a rotary machine,as i can see your voltage is 8.7...so here's is my question..coil machines need more or less voltages? Like if im going to 6.5-7.5 im good or nah??

Literaly, because I ended up with the ink everywhere 🤦Thank you for all the tips!

I know this video is a year old but i deciced to pick up learning how to tattoo as a hobby or soon maybe even a full time career but watching this made me feel so confident and excited! Thank you
Hey man, just found your channel and your by far my favorite ink channel. I about a year ago got into art and had the idea of pursuing it as a career. I have been doing stick and pokes, decent ones using my own skin as my canvas. I have given one tattoo to a close friend and it turned out great. Finally making the jump to a coil machine should be here soon. Cant wait, thanks for the awesome videos will be following your lead, you have already answered so many questions of mine. Keep it up!
Congrats Sync on the new equipment you ordered!! Waiting for the equipment to show up is the hardest lol. THank you Sync I really appreciate the support brother!! I wish nothing but the best as you take the dive into machine tattooing. I still have yet to try stick and pock but when I do its good to know people who have done it before. So thank you again!! And Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is amazing, I might get into tattooing fake skin just as a hobbie, drawing and painting has always been a passion of mine and I've got my fair share of tattoos, but seeing the art side of tattooing has intrigued me! Thanks for this man it's been a pleasure to watch the craft.
My question: When running a line etc, do you apply pressure i.e bare down while running the line, or aim for run the line with as minimal pressure as possible?
What a wonderful attitude towards helping people develop a skill correctly thank you so much for your time i have been tattooing over 20 years and there is always room for improvement and learning thank you again
thank you. I'm a new subscriber. I learned a lot. I just bought my beginner kit. I will receive it in a week. keep doing new videos. I want to learn everything :)
I love this channel so much dude. I've wanted to be a tattoo artist since 7th grade. I'm 21 and I've made an art portfolio and I've shown a few shops.they told me I was a good artist but they weren't willing to Apprentice me. I got a tattoo kit this past Christmas. I think I'm gonna start just practicing on my own. This channel has been teaching me a lot. Thanks man! Keep it up!
Thats really cool to hear that you made a portfolio and went around showing it to a few shops!! Also cool to hear they liked your work, congrats on that Amber!! It can be tough as some shops just arent ready to take on an apprentice or they already have one. I would say go for it and just start practicing and see where it takes you. I wish you the best of luck as you start down this amazing journey!! Keep your head up and Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
80% water with 20% bleach for about an hour in a rectangular glass tray worked well. I left the stencil over night and next day didn't like the placement.
When you are switching needles on "real" people do you use completely new needles or use the one u previously used? If you reuse, should I be doing anything in particular with them so the ink doesn't dry on the needle or something? I feel like I used the word "use" too many times. Use. Thank you for these awesome videos!
I would use completely new needles for every session on new people, and different needles for different colours. Stay sanitary and clean and buy in bulk I'd recommend
To use a needle of a different color or when it is dry, you can clean it in sterile water (You can buy such water in a pharmacy or in stores with tattoo supplies) On real people, you only use new needles from sterile packaging, never the "previous". If you used a needle on fake skin, you can keep it but only to use it again on fake skin :)
I just found your channel not to long ago, love everything I'm seeing. I've been told that I should get into tattooing by those around me. Out of curiosity, do you have any suggestions on what would be a good beginners tattooing kit? Any help would be great! Thanks!
Ive done 5 tattoos so far. Lol & getting ready to do more. Im so thankful i found your channel bro! Im hoping to get good enough i can tattoo myself in a mirror. Lol
Vaseline is best I've found, even after going through my wifes make up removal kit, and various cleaning products. I'm going to try pure acetone when I'm back at work. Also find colours stain fake skin when cleaning so I only really use black on them
“Alright guys now that our tattoo machine is ready” Me: “but w...where...where are the wires?” It was at this time I realized I was behind in tattoo tech 😂
HAHAH yeah a lot has changes lol!! SO much more freedom when tattooing now a days!! I love it and couldnt see myself going back to cables ever again. 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething Really!?! I can't stand using cartridges at all. The amount of wrap I use to increase the sharpness of my lines and to keep my hand from cramping alone has kept me away from tattoo pens. I also like to fiddle around with machine setups depending on the driving force to speed ratio. Something I don't quite grasp about rotary setups. I get that adjusting the voltage can increase or decrease speed, but how do you control the driving pressure behind those needles? To me, each machine having it's own job and set up is like choosing the right paintbrush. The gauge being the grouping and the coils being the bristle density. (Kind of...) If the world could give me the freedom of wireless and let me stick to coils, maybe then I'd be able to say the same thing. I know it's a matter of preference, yet my OCD will keep me wired to anything I understand in full mathematical conception.
big fan of your videos and how to's. i know this video is older but you spoke of ways to remove the extra ink from the fake skin. I found the a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser worked very well and no wait time to see finished work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
So I just bought the kit off my sis today . N this helps me be confident. My kit came with the fake skin n I didn't know how or why it was so thin....no ik bc u not supposed to press as hard as I thought
Thank for taking the time ! I started yesterday on fake skin, recording on Twitch live and it was just hilarious. Ended up with ink all over my face 🤣 Tattooing is an art and I respect tattoo artist even more after trying !!
Just recently bought a tattoo gun & stocking up on all the supplies for tattooing. Even bought practice skin. I still have a few missing items to buy before I start practicing. But I cannot wait to dig in & try. I love to draw. I was the krazy, stupid kid in school with gel pens drawing all over my friends during class. So I can't wait to try out my stuff as tattoos. Thanks for the awesome tutorial videos.
AWESOME video.. I just bought my FIRST tattoo kit and im super stoaked to try this practice skin now... Ive been drawing all my life and have always been suggested to tattoo... Obviously i was scared and intimidated.. This video just gave me the confidence to go draw something up and try it on the practice skin! Thanks dude!
I use green soap and it comes off pretty easy for me. Also another great video keep bringing that good content. I’m learning a lot. So big thanks to you...
Old vid, I know, but thank you... It's intimidating to try learning in a culture that largely shuns beginners. I've heard so much against learning on fake skin, not having a traditional apprenticeship, etc. but then not enough of them can or want to teach! Many tattooists don't like my social, chatty nature (I'm autistic) so it's a tough industry to get my foot in the door with... So thank you for helping me learn.
Great videos! I've tattooed a few fake skins and found that the tattooed lines look more like a cut in the fake skin. Is this normal? Maybe my voltage is too high? I run it at around 8 (sometimes 9). Thanks for the help! The needle is out with not more than 2 mm when running.
Your very welcome my friend and im happy to hear the channel has been able to help you and many others out there chasing this dream I wish you all the best and truly appreciate the support!🤘🙏🤘
I love these videos very easy to understand. Can someone recommend me the best beginner kit, and which ink to use on actual skin. Not the ink in the kits.
Love your videos, been practicing on fake skin and little pieces on myself and having lots of fun doing so, I want to join an apprenticeship in the future when I can but this is justice for all wanting to learn! Thanks buddy
Man Dave, I'm truly glad I came across your channel a while back, great way to network and learn from so many of you all. ready to drop some new Work to get checked by yall! have a great transition in the relocation brother!
Bro. I’ve been tattooing fake skin for a few months now and I continually come back to your videos. I’ve officially given one tattoo and the client (my friend) was super happy. I’m super grateful for your videos as they’ve helped me learn so much from needle sizes to workflow. Keep up the videos man!
When you’re switching needles do you throw out each needle everytime? Or are you able to go back with the needle used before (like the 5RL you used 2 times) did you use two separate ones or the same one?
I only used the one. You can change them as much as you want as long as you dispose of all of them after the tattoo. Hope this helps and thanks for watching Skyler!!🤘🤘
Hey man I just started watching your vids and I luv them. I’m a student artist and I’m looking to add tattooing as just a side hobby to put under my belt. I’ve been looking at different kits to start off with but I don’t know half of what I’m looking at 😂😂😂 so I told myself I’d watch a bunch of vids to kinda catch me up. Idk why I thought it was just vibrating pen with ink on the tip. I obviously never really looked at the doohickey
Just subscribed to your channel...I been slowly teaching myself to tattoo...I am really looking forward to learning more...and becoming a damn good artist!!!!! Thank you
Found this video really good and helpful. I'm guessing there is different quality of fake skin because your skin takes the ink really well and mine well doesnt. Yeah I know you're a professional and I'm a beginner. Could be my machine set up or lack of skill. Cleaning wise I found kitchen cleaner helps getting the stencil off but never truly left the stencil on for that long. Love the design you did and your videos. Keep up the great work dude
I’m thinking about tattooing as a medium just because it’s 2022 and I can. I don’t really know if I want to tattoo people but I like it as an art medium for my type of drawings. Love the fake skin.
I've been referring to this video pretty often, and it's so helpful! I am struggling with cleaning the ink as I go. I've tried using A&D and petroleum jelly to prep the fake skin before I start pulling lines; however, when I go to sponge or wipe it off, it just smears and becomes a dark mess. How do you clean yours so easily as you go? And to follow up: sometimes the ink kind of just leaks out of the tip of my needle and I have to refill more often. Do I need to increase the speed of the machine?
Instead of wiping the ink away as your tattooing try dabbing the ink away, I found that it leaves less of a mess at the end for the final wipe down. Also straight vasoline seems to work better then A&D on fake skin idk why it just does. Hopefully this tip helps you and everyone else.
I put the stencil on using stencil stuff once the stencil is on the face skin and then either use a blow dryer to help the stencil dry or let it sit overnight.

Any tips for getting neat lines? And cutting down on machine vibrations?
When switching back and forth between needles can you use the same ones or do you need to use a new one every time?
Thank you for adding all of the needles that you were using when you were switching over, so many tattoo videos but hardly any of them do this!!!!!
Im using a coil machine which is quite heavy for my hand especially if i tattooing over an hour.. you're using a rotary machine,as i can see your voltage is 8.7...so here's is my question..coil machines need more or less voltages? Like if im going to 6.5-7.5 im good or nah??
So happy to see your channel growing so rapidly you deserve it with all the phenomenal information you put out and all the careers and dreams you are helping accomplish. Stay safe, all love 🤟🏼
That really means a lot Marcus 🙏 Thank you brother!!! It Means more to me knowing that we are helping make careers and dreams come true!!!! Spread the love and Keep Rocking brother!!! 🤘🤘
Oh, you are a LIFESAVER! I am a book-conservator-turned-office-rat who quit the office job i hated in February and wanted to join the professional workshop to learn tattooing and get licenced but covid pretty much scraped that. So at the moment i am self-learner and your videos are gold! I fought with the fake skin so much and this cleared it up very nicely. Literaly, because I ended up with the ink everywhere 🤦Thank you for all the tips!
Thats awesome to see you make the leap into tattooing!! If you just keep at it and keep working on your skill then doors will open for you. The road can be long but I promise its worth it!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I know this video is a year old but i deciced to pick up learning how to tattoo as a hobby or soon maybe even a full time career but watching this made me feel so confident and excited! Thank you
Thats awesome to hear Kelly really glad this video gave you the confidence to give it a go! Best of luck and Keep Rocking!🤘🤘
You’re teaching style is so helpful! You’ve truly made practicing and learning so easy! Thank you!
You are so welcome Summer!! And im glad to hear your enjoying the vids and that they are helping you out!! Keep at it and Keep Rocking!!! 🤘🤘
Thank you for sharing actual information and tips instead of gatekeeping like other artists
This is amazing, I might get into tattooing fake skin just as a hobbie, drawing and painting has always been a passion of mine and I've got my fair share of tattoos, but seeing the art side of tattooing has intrigued me! Thanks for this man it's been a pleasure to watch the craft.
Thanks Tee I appreciate the support my friend and best of luck you!🤘
My question:
When running a line etc, do you apply pressure i.e bare down while running the line, or aim for run the line with as minimal pressure as possible?
What a wonderful attitude towards helping people develop a skill correctly thank you so much for your time i have been tattooing over 20 years and there is always room for improvement and learning thank you again
thank you. I'm a new subscriber. I learned a lot. I just bought my beginner kit. I will receive it in a week. keep doing new videos. I want to learn everything :)
Hey, really cool how you used this opportunity to also reflect on your work tendencies. Great advice btw
Thank you Mossy im glad you appreciate that!! And thank you for the support. Keep Rocking Mossy!!! 🤘🤘
Good question!
I would use completely new needles for every session on new people, and different needles for different colours. Stay sanitary and clean and buy in bulk I'd recommend
I'm also not a professional but I'm a germ freak
Always, always use fresh needles, no matter what
To use a needle of a different color or when it is dry, you can clean it in sterile water (You can buy such water in a pharmacy or in stores with tattoo supplies) On real people, you only use new needles from sterile packaging, never the "previous". If you used a needle on fake skin, you can keep it but only to use it again on fake skin :)
One of the best teachers I've had...
Wow thank you SOO much really does mean a lot my friend!! And thank you for watching and supporting the channel! 🤘🤘
I agree, cantaloupe is best to practice on. I was curious about an avocado. I know it would be a little hard to see a stencil since its dark.
These videos help out a lot as I just am starting my tattooing career
By far my go to for tips on self learning and tattooing
I just found your channel not to long ago, love everything I'm seeing. I've been told that I should get into tattooing by those around me. Out of curiosity, do you have any suggestions on what would be a good beginners tattooing kit? Any help would be great! Thanks!
learned SO MUCH FROM YOU its crazy I can't stop watching your videos lol
Ive done 5 tattoos so far. Lol & getting ready to do more. Im so thankful i found your channel bro! Im hoping to get good enough i can tattoo myself in a mirror. Lol
Do u have a Chanel ?
@@heavyklaw no i dont.
Update tho i did tattoo my eyebrows on in the mirror 😂🤣🤷🏼♀️
Vaseline is best I've found, even after going through my wifes make up removal kit, and various cleaning products. I'm going to try pure acetone when I'm back at work. Also find colours stain fake skin when cleaning so I only really use black on them
Tried acetone. Doesn't work
Try Green soap
Green soap doesn’t work very well either, my go to is a thin layer of Vaseline or a&p and wipe hard w a paper towel
“Alright guys now that our tattoo machine is ready”
Me: “but w...where...where are the wires?”
It was at this time I realized I was behind in tattoo tech 😂
Wait what they got wireless?
thanks your videos are great help. What machine are you using in this video? and what ink I have to use to make tribals?
Can’t thank you enough for this content and the ability to share what so many won’t. Keep grinding man
Amazing and so well taught. Great explanation. Thank you... From a beginner
big fan of your videos and how to's. i know this video is older but you spoke of ways to remove the extra ink from the fake skin. I found the a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser worked very well and no wait time to see finished work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
honestly the most informative tattoo videos Ive seen!
Wow thank you so much Loni I really appreciate that and thank you for watching and supporting the channel!! Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘
i’m only 15 and i just got a whole tattoo machine and all your videos help me soooo much:)
Ended up with ink all over my face 🤣
Tattooing is an art and I respect tattoo artist even more after trying !!
Thanks I'm just getting into tattoo game and was wondering if it's better to start off with a traditional machine or something like your set up?
Your vids help me so much as a beginner. Ive wanted to do them for a while now so i just started and your tips help alot!
You are definitely an excellent instructor
Best tattoo tutorial in youtube. Really helpful kudos
Thank you so much Renz!! Really appreciate that support!!! 🤘🤘🙏🤘🤘
Thank you so much!! I just purchased my first machine and fake skin and can’t wait to get started ❤️
You are very welcome!! And congrats on the new equipment, I wish you the best of luck and keep rocking you got this!! 🤘🤘
When switching the needles do we use same one's ? Or new ones ?
Do you throw out the needle everytime you switch needles? Or if it's the same surface you switch back to your same needle you were using?
I use green soap and it comes off pretty easy for me. Also another great video keep bringing that good content. I’m learning a lot. So big thanks to you...
Hey,I have a question... is the dynamic black ink only used for practice or can it be used for both?
Might be bad skin or you're moving your hand too slow
I’m a new artist and I’ve been watching all of your videos just to give me basics and you’ve helped so much. Thank you
Thanks again bro your channel has helped me and many others so much. WE DO APPRECIATE IT brother
Good job I use hairspray ontop stencil , did you try 4.2 cam
Man Dave, I'm truly glad I came across your channel a while back, great way to network and learn from so many of you all. ready to drop some new Work to get checked by yall! have a great transition in the relocation brother!
Dude I've been hooked on you're videos you're very informative!
Thanks man Im glad to hear your enjoying them!!! Appreciate the support and keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘
Bro. I’ve been tattooing fake skin for a few months now and I continually come back to your videos. I’ve officially given one tattoo and the client (my friend) was super happy. I’m super grateful for your videos as they’ve helped me learn so much from needle sizes to workflow. Keep up the videos man!
Thank you for this channel newbie here...You are a inspiration💛
No problem im happy to help!! And I wish you the best of luck as you start down this awesome journey!! 🤘🤘
Hi, just discovered your channel. Wanted to say thank you for doing this. I have been trying to learn how to tattoo and this is awesome.
Art-Something thank you so much!!!! I didn’t want to waste needles lol!
First comment from Egypt 🖤🤘🏻
Going on my god father tattoo artist
Your videos is very helpful , useful
Thanks so much bro 👊
Congrats Abanoub for the being the first brother!!! Great to hear from Egypt by the way and thank you my frined!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Its such an amazing work! Can we get the stencil for it please? For practice purpose of course
This was really helpful I just came pass your page today an I’m rocking with it
Thats awesome to hear man super glad your enjoying the content and thank you for your support!! 🤘🤘
Always helpful and your so clear when you speak appreciate it 😊
Another motivator!! Can't wait till the shops open where I live, gonna get my leg tattoo as a start 🤙
What's an alternative you'd recommend for A&D? ((Possibly something easier to find in Australia) Also, love the videos, they're super helpful!!!)
Instead of wiping the ink away as your tattooing try dabbing the ink away, I found that it leaves less of a mess at the end for the final wipe down. Also straight vasoline seems to work better then A&D on fake skin idk why it just does. Hopefully this tip helps you and everyone else.
Thank you for everything!! Your videos help a lot! I would like to ask you how you apply your stencil on the fake skin. Mine is wiping off..
I put the stencil on using stencil stuff once the stencil is on the face skin and then either use a blow dryer to help the stencil dry or let it sit overnight.
Art-Something thank you!!
Hey man it helped me a lot coz I was gonna quit tattooing after been feasted with all that ink left on fake skin
No problem, im glad the vid helped you keep at it cause the ink can be a real pain in the butt on the fake skin. Keep at it and Keep ROcking!! 🤘
