The Italian army is demonstrating its willingness to upgrade heavily. Many new vehicles such as AW249, KF51 Panther, Lynx, Tempest, ships and much more. It will be interesting to continue watching his growth.
They plan to buy 500 leopard 2a8 by 2028
@@alex-lm9wy No man, plans have changed recently. KNDS did not accept Leonardo proposals. Now Leonard has allied itself with Rheinmetall and Italy will purchase the KF51 Panther and the KF41 Lynx as well as updating the C1 Ariete.
@@alex-lm9wy Yes, KDNS didn't accept to produce parts of the tank in Italy by Leonardo. Rhinmetall otherwise accepted the deal and so Panther KF1 will be produced also in Italy. Meaning secondary boost to italian military economy and top tier tank manufacturing skills will be acquired. Also Italy is aiming to get into MCGS program. All this in less than a month. I made a lot money by trading Leonardo stocks, buy KDNS fail into sell today ;D
@@zandaico1566 yes u are right
The AW249 is what a Hughes designer would have drawn if asked "what would you have done differently" 40 years later.
Same concept, similar weight, similar role, similar payload, different execution.
BTW, Leonardo both designed and maintained the Aw129 for 35 years and also provides assembly, modifications and maintainable for the AH64 in service with the UK Army
The concept isn't the same, nor the heli weight (the AW249 is way lighter), the paylod also isn't the same (the AW249 can carry the double in weight than the Apache, speaking about weapons) you are confusing "max weight at payload" with "MTOW" two different things.
Actually Leonardo build the AH64 for UK, not only provides spare parts.
🌸🌸..Italy🤝🏻Bangladesh..❇️🇧🇩
The MTOW can mislead people thinking that the Apache can carry more weapons at payload, but that's false.
The MTOW include the whole weight so heli weight, fuel, weapons.
Actualky the Apache can carry as weapon at Paylod at max 1995 kilos, where thr AW249 can carry 2.800 kilos.
You will ask "how could be possible that the Apache can carry less weapon weight if it have an higher MTOW?" The answer it's simple, the Apache, unloaded, weight more than the AW249 that have fly by wire controllers so an huge weight reduction. Apache does not have fly by wire.
No fly by wire on the AW249
@@francescodalpozzo9269 It have fly by wire. Officially said by Leonardo at Eurosatory.
I’m not sure where you’re getting these numbers for max payload but for the Apache you’re incorrect. And the Apache does have a fly by wire flight control system, it’s called BUCS. But it’s a back up control system, not primary
@@ah64longbow The one that is incorrect it's you and by miles. The data are the official ones of both the helis. The AH64D in his Block II upgrade can carry at payload from 3.400 to 4.400 lbs (so in kilos at max 1.995 kilos), the AW 249 can carry 6.172 lbs (2.800 kilos).
And nope, the Apache WILL HAVE fly by wire in the future Block III upgrade (AH64E Guardian), but it doesn't have it now.
Plus, a Block III Apache, so his last development phase, will be almost on pair, but not in everything, with the AW249 that is at his first projectual phase. It's all to say.
@@solinvictus1234 pretty wild that you’re so confident in what you’re saying but you’re just spreading completely false information lol. First of all, I fly the D models and my unit has D models that were built in 2005 all the way to 2010. Guess what, they all have BUCS, which is a fly by wire system. Secondly, the AH64E is not a future upgrade, that thing has been out for a decade. You need to do some research
Both great.. but I prefer the AW249 because is more modern and because I'm Italian ))
Two awesome machine.
Apache all day long… but glad to see our allies make weapon systems too. We are all in this together!
Agusta Westland AW 249 Phenix is based on common parts with the others AW helicopter to minimize the costs of production.
Something funny is going on here? the 249 is more streamlined and has more power and five blades but lifts less and is slower? none of this makes any sense, is someone messing with the numbers?
Probably different configurations (249 use less rpm for efficiency?). That might explain, while less fast and more powerful, it has a lot more range
The aw 249 still on prototype stage, so I don't think the specs stated in this video are correct, maybe they are only extimated
MTOW indicates the weight of the helicopter overall, not just the weapons. in reality the AW249, weighing less, can carry equal or heavier armaments. on speed for now it seems slightly slower but has a much greater range of action.
The 249 can carry a higher payload than the Apache. Your messing numbers of Payload Weight and MTOW - maximum take off weight: as the apache is way heavier than the 249, in the end the weight of it's payload is inferior to the 249 because the Apache frame is way heavier. It's like a 2 tons of payload on the Apache and almost 3 tons of payload on the Leonardo' s Attack Chopper. Just do the math, knowing the concepts you're using. Cheers
It doesn't lift less, but almost the double more than the Apache, speaking of weapons at the payload. And since the AW249 is way lighter than the Apache (fly by wire and other new integrated tech) i think that, if the data about max cruiser speed and max speed are correct, the engine was tweaked in torque power and rpm to have an advantage on the MTOW and not on speed. Considering also that the maximum operative range is the double of the Apache, as the hours it can remain operative in the sky.
Would love to see the Viper in the comparison too.
Attack helicopters are all about sensors. The helicopter that can spot multiple targets and attack them the quickest is the better helicopter.
If AW249 cost is about same i would pick it
Helicopters on the modern battlefield are becoming obsolete.
The AW249 can remotely control drones for recon or attack support.
Obsolete is not the word i will chose for this heli.
The Italian Leonardo AW249 uses American-made GE engines 🤣🤣🤣… what a joke 😂😂😂
So what? The US Navy use Italian FREMM Frigates. The US Predator and Reaper drones use Leonardo EWS (Electronic Warfare System).
The US Coast Guard use the Italian Agusta Westland helis.
What's your point exactely, kiddo?
The polish-italian helicopter looks nice.
There is nothing Polish about this helicopter!
@@nosferatus777 Oh really, why then it's built in cooperation with polish mod? and why the name is AgustaWestland?
@@BurninVinyl
Leonardo bought the Polish PZL-Świdnik factory.
agusta was an italian factory westland was english and they cooperated for years together until finmeccanica today leonardo bought that too.
a letter of intent was signed with Poland to buy it and therefore expand the market, but the helicopter was developed in ITALY.
nothing Polish about this helicopter!
@@nosferatus777 Thanks for the lesson from wikipedia but it's wrong. Go check the source key.areo : The same thing happened for the AW149.
@@BurninVinyl
In July 2018, Leonardo and Polish Armaments Group signed a letter of intent regarding cooperation on a bid to supply the AW249 to fulfill the Polish combat helicopter program Kruk and mooted the use of its subsidiary PZL- Świdnik to locally produce elements of the rotorcraft.
a little to think that this is also a Polish helicopter,
but you are free to feel proud of this Italian helicopter.
Sono talmente sofisticati pronti a tutto che non riescono a vedere l’arrivo di una semplice fucilata.
AW249 didnt dominate the battlefield yet 😂
Aw249 design para asiático, muito feio uma mistura de elicoptero chinês
Com indiano
É baseado no AW149 e A129 Mangusta. Além disso, Leonardo construiu Apaches para o exército do Reino Unido. Se você não sabe do que está falando, cale a boca.
The Apache has lithium batteries for silent night operations.

The Apache AH64 is a battle hardened beast with proven technology… the Leonardo AW249 is… well, a typical euro metrosexual that’s never seen conflict in it entire life… I’ll go for the proven Apache war hero any day…
That's why you lost in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Syria, Lybia etc.
You can't recognize when something is superior to your stuff and for that mocking it with silly phrases as "metrosexual".
the Italian helicpter is the best: American technology sucks!
The Apache is a great machine but it's simply very old. The Fenice has better overall performance with great innovations in technological terms and low costs. nice brand new vehicle should be attractive to many countries.
The Apache is way older than the Phoenix. This new Italian helicopter is brand new.
In a sense, it's unfair for the american copter.
But, it still means that back in the days the americans did a good job in design it. And of course through time the Apache received upgrades and innovations. While the Phoenix is just at the start of it's life. So it have plenty of room to develop.
Who knows what kind of capabilities can reach this copter in future? We will see.
Meanwhile we know that America and Italy togheter have excellent military capabilities and cooperation. Togheter we make this world safest day by day.
