Thank you for making by far the best reviews: by far the most rigorous, very clearly explained, and with thoughtful timestamps & organization to boot! Thanks Rob!
Absolutely the most useful video on Oura rings. I am buying one and was wondering how accurate it is and wanted to see real calculations that show exactly how accurate it is. Thank you kindly, this video obviously took you lots of effort and time. Much appreciated!
Woow... I can't believe that you have only 40k subscribers for being the only serious review out there, this very unfair. It's a Shame people prefer just to watch review from people that just show the specs and the price🤦🏻
By the way, have you ever considered testing smart weight scales such has the one from Fitbit or Xiaomi? I have always wondered how precise and contant are the measurements of certain variables such us fat or muscle percentage. Kudos for the outstanding channel!!!
Excellent video as always, I would like very much if you could analyze the Garmin Venu 2 because they have modified the algorithms of the sleep measurement and Body Battery, there are many rumors that it is better than the Oura Ring measuring sleep.
Hi Franco! Thanks for the suggestion ! I emailed Garmin if they could lend me one, but they were having delivery issues, so I have to wait until June at least
Great video, thanks! I would like to watch also extensive analysis of Polar Vantage M, which seems to be very accurate regarding sleep tracking and overall health and fitness tracking :) I hope you will find time to test this device more. The first analysis which you did was very promising.
I just bought the series 2 for 125 bucks which I think was a pretty good price for someone who wasn’t even really interested in this thing at all and has an Apple Watch. What I’m getting from your analysis is that this device is about 60% accurate and I paid fair market value. But my wife will be happy that now I will wear my wedding ring even if it really isn’t my wedding ring
Does anyone use the time stamps? Rob is such a nice guy, and obviously puts so much work into these videos, I feel obliged to watch the whole thing to tell UA-cam to promote the video and reward him for all that work.
For me the awake time is pretty spot on, but mostly because I don't move at all when I sleep, which I imagine isn't true for everyone. I agree that the time spent asleep is a useful metric, which the Oura helps track.
Your reviews really help me decide whether I should keep my apple watch 4 or get something else and consistently, for my use (no sleep tracking), the apple watch comes out on top. Thanks for saving me time and money!
Hi Rob, I'd like to support your results by my observation. I also used to wear two Oura rings for a week or so and compared sleep stages. Few nights I wore them on different hands and few nights on the same hand (not the same finger), but sleep stages didn't overlap as expected. Actually I've been quite disappointed and confused. I didn't compare data scientifically like you, as I compared only sleep reports. Now I rely only on readiness report. Geat job as usual! I appreciate your effort and like your videos. BTW, if you wanted to compare three ORs I can lend you one. I'm in Bratislava 😉
Hi Miroslav, thanks for sharing your observations. I think two Oura Rings is enough, though it would be cool to wear 10 just for one night.💍💍💍💍💍💍💍💍💍💍 Sleep well!
Awesome Video Thank you !! The only MAJOR flaw you need to consider, is the Oura Ring systemic battery issues. If you are lucky when you buy the ring, it will fail before the warranty runs out and you might get more then 2 years use. And if you are unlucky your ring will last for 2 years and VERY soon after the battery will fail. I have had 2 fail both at about 14- 16 months and many friends have also. So buy knowing that it is a disposable device and you will need to buy a new one every 2 years or so.
I have already returned Venu 2 after just one week of usage. Sleep tracking is a joke, you'll see venu2 asking you "you are sleeping, do you want to wake up?" Also go tweet garmin to send Rob a test sample.
fitbit inspire 2 show great results in Sleep stage tracker in your Inspire 2 Review video, do you think the charge 4 perform the same ? Like always I really enjoy your videos keep it going and good luck.
Great video! I see a possible fault in your setup at 2:18: you are wearing the rings in different fingers. For consistent data, you should keep your ring in the same finger.
Thanks for the great review! It sounds like the hardware capabilities of the oura ring are very solid, and quite accurate. Sounds like it's just a software issue on their sleep staging algorithm. I've been using the oura ring and the HR and HRV have been quite useful for day to day tracking.
Nope, they're horrible at REM and it's just a guessing game, because the ring CAN'T DETECT RAPID EYE MOVEMENT which is REM. Even their Deep sleep and light sleep isn't as good as they claim.
Wow !! Your reviews are always interesting !! I have the Oura Ring and use it with Apple Watch series 6. I agree completely with your conclusions. Thanks for your videos 🙂
Thank you for your work Rob! I really appreciate your advice. I have been looking to improve my sleep quality and it sounds like the Fitbit Inspire 2 is the one for me! Could you also do an analysis of Lumen, which is promoted as a way to track and improve metabolism?
Unbelievably useful! Thank you! I am ditching my whoop strap after 6-months use because I am concerned about the constant EMF exposure, although I remove it to sync it up via Bluetooth. I use it to track both my sleep and workouts to make sure I am doing the right level of activity. Given your experience, what would you recommend as the best device for tracking and advising on sleep and activity?
Wow, I love my aura ring but this shows the technology is very far from perfect! - From all your research so far, what would you say is the most accurate consumer sleep tracker available right now? - is it still Oura, or is it Fitbit?
At 23:24 of this video, Rob says Fitbit. It seems like Rob has always said that Oura was inaccurate with sleep staging--see his first sleep test on Oura ("Oura Ring Scientific Sleep Test (Review)" released Apr 20, 2020, ua-cam.com/video/atWcp6FmnbE/v-deo.html) Similarly, he's consistently found Fitbit to be the best at sleep tracking, as stated here in his recent Nest Hub video: ua-cam.com/video/KjCX79zdZ-k/v-deo.html
I do wish you had used the newer software--there's a chance that has made a huge impact on its possible improvements on sleep stage tracking. Based on your recommendations I'm tempted to go with a fitbit, but I really hate the idea of supporting a company that's hiding some data in its interface behind a premium paywall.
Thank you mate for your brilliant work. Are you going to review the Biostrap by any chance? I have one but I'm thinking of getting Whoop 4.0 or Oura Ring 2 since Biostrap doesn't have temperature measurement.
Does Oura use any AI technology that "learns" what your sleeping metrics tend to look like? Granted, I don't know how it could do that without manually correcting which stages were correctly/incorrectly identified. (But, then again, you're the sleep expert, not me!) I ask because that might explain the inconsistencies between your New and old Oura rings.
Can you please review the muse s and compare it to the dream 2? I have the Oura ring, but i would like something that gathers more accurate measurements on sleep.
Unfortunately, the Muse 2 offers only extremely limited sleep details. For example, it doesn’t offer time spent in different sleep stages. The rumor is that full sleep stats will be part of an upcoming subscription package. That makes it hard to do a comparison at this time. And as for the Dreem, it is no longer available to consumers.
I’ve heard people talk about the Apple Watch and oura ring combo as the best possible combo for fitness tracking. Any chance you can make a video on what you think about that?
I believe to have watched every video you published, in the end, the Apple Watch is always the best. Good what you do, but I think you should make some additional effort when you compare Apple Watch with the other devices, also looking at the budget and use cases, otherwise it seems you are advertising Apple products. For example, for fitness purposes only, a Garmin seems just fine and is much less expensive, probably I forgot also some other device but that one is on top of my list in case I don’t want a Smart watch, but just a fitness tracker.
Thanks for this video, great methodology! I was going to buy one but honestly this really dissuaded me, whats the point in obsessing over sleep data thats almost as much noise as it is accurate meaurement
are there any differences to the series 3 now? Oura says they have taken your critics and updated the ring. Have you compared the series 3 to series 2 or your scientific measures?
Fitbit Sense seems to have many of the sensors the Oura ring has. When you complete testing ecg, respiration rate, and skin temp. Will you recommend one?
Sorry to ask perhaps the obvious... what can people do assuming they know when they go into light / deep / REM sleep? I use a tracker to tell me how much I sleep... but beyond that, I am not sure what to do if I have the additional information.
thanks for your video and hard work putting this together. This product seems to be trash at the moment and not accurate or consistent enough to justify buying. Worse accuracy than my damn watch.. thanks so much!
I think you miss the point, non track perfectly, sleep, etc, the point is all are useful, and it's trends that can be tracked. It's like scales, whether right or wrong, they will show general trends. Evrn fitness watches are not perfect, got to take them with a grain of salt, but can show trends. So all can be some use. It's not about if they are accurate, or not, but do they show trends?
how can you sleep so well with all these devices strapped around you.. ??? please man tell me about ur diet and ur daily routine cause im dying here and sleeping 3-4 hours and wakeup in the middle of the night and cant fall back to sleep again and its killing me day after day now and been like that for 3 year now :(((
Not a best place to ask for this kind of questions. You must consult your doctor, do tests etc. Maybe you eat big before going to bed or drink a lot of water, or alcohol/cannabis (which interferes your REM sleep), or you watch something on your phone (blue lights, which tells your brain to be awake). It could be even your environnement, or low physical activity, shitty diet, stress etc.. There's a ton of possibilities.
P.s. I think there’s an opportunity for you to create a new wearable for the Apple echo system...a consumer EEG device worn on the head that sends its data to the Apple Watch, and an App on iPhone/iPad/Mac/Win that can interpret this data. If you funnel this sleep data into the über Readiness Score algorithm/app (see my previous comment) then it would be über über...

This was so thorough and helpful, thank you! Oura should hire you as a consultant :)
Hands down the best reviewer when it comes to smart watches/bands
Very clear explanation, just like a scientific report would be!
Thanks Jonathan!

I have a suggestion - you could compute the maximum cross-correlation between the sleep stage readings, as it would serve to summarise the comparison.

Not Fitbit lol
Finding my Vivosmart 4 has very good sleep tracking. Would be happy if he tested it for sleep stages as he does here for the Oura ring
Very good for what reason?
At 23:24 of this video, Rob says Fitbit.
It seems like Rob has always said that Oura was inaccurate with sleep staging--see his first sleep test on Oura ("Oura Ring Scientific Sleep Test (Review)" released Apr 20, 2020, ua-cam.com/video/atWcp6FmnbE/v-deo.html)
Similarly, he's consistently found Fitbit to be the best at sleep tracking, as stated here in his recent Nest Hub video: ua-cam.com/video/KjCX79zdZ-k/v-deo.html
@@andrewhwang2910 Thank you for your reply, with links, clarifying Fitbit and Oura according to Rob.
