      Absolutely! I would love to know how Whoop is doing their recovery score. I feel like HRV is so dominant in their system and would love to see someone validate the data on this. (but, whoop doesn't allow you to get your data as easily as just doing an export......) Still, if he can manage to do something like this for whoop, it would be great!

    Than you very much for this and the previous Oura video. They're both absolutely amazing and they have given me useful information. Now I can make a more educated evaluation on what the Oura app is telling me. For instance, the previous video taught me that the sleep stages aren't particularly reliable, and I've also witnessed that on my own. Just last night I woke up a few times in the middle of the night and checked the time (around 3:30 and 5:20). No surprise, Oura thinks I was in light sleep at the time.
    Anyway, this new video was really interesting too; especially the data analysis part. Making videos like this must have taken an enormous amount of time, so once a gain, thanks for your effort. It was also fun to see that studying and using R was actually useful when watching this video. Turns out, the first piece of code you showed earlier in the video has a minor spoiler, about the equation, but most people probably missed it. Also, It was great you added the p-values and correlation coefficients. Most people might not care, but I work with those values occasionally, so I care. The relevant scatter plots were a bit messy, but they were pretty much what I was expecting to see. This is multidimensional data that was produced observationally, so looking at just two dimensions tends to produce plots exactly like this. I've done similar things with data I got from an industrial process and this data had familiar characteristics. For instance, the range of temperatures and pressures etc can't really span several orders of magnitude. You just can't run your (biological or industrial) process like that, so you have to settle for just taking what the process gives you during normal operation. This makes data analysis a bit harder and including a hundred dimensions isn't going to make the data any cleaner.
    I've tipped my toes into PCR (statistical and biochemical types), so I'm curious to know if you used PCA to group the variables?

    This was very well done! When I used a Garmin Vivosmart 4 tracker, it tracked something they called "Body Battery" which I found, subjectively, to be quite accurate and helpful. I suspect it utilizes much of the same data the Oura Ring uses to calculate this. Fitbit doesn't currently have anything like this; they mostly just present you with lots of data and expect you to make sense of it. I don't enjoy wearing rings, or I'd consider the Oura Ring. I've been a smart watch user in the past. It is not better than the way I feel. The valuable part is history tracking given that I don't really remember how I felt last week let alone last year.
    One thing they all have in common is how one sleeps at night. What that tell us is that what really matters is to improve night sleep. For that it would be interesting to see how the "new" smart sleep technology really works. What I'm referring to is the cooling mattresses or de moona devices to cool your head during sleep. Will that increase sleep cycles? Change them? That would be valuable information and premium content for your channel.

    I was inspired by your videos recently! I wore my Charge 4 and the new Amazon Halo for about a week. Found the sleep tracking of the Halo to be...okay. Didnt detect some times I was awake. I found the heartrate to be super off during HIIT; on my Polar H10 I got 182 max hr, on my fitbit it was 171 max, and on the Halo is was only 150 max. Note I wore them both as recommended by Amazon; right above wrist bone. If I wear my charge 4 with an arm band, I get a much closer max heartrate. Resting heart rates were about the same with both devices.
    Anyways, the experiment was fun! But I'm sticking with charge 4. I primarily got Halo for the body fat measurements, which I found to be super cool. No way for me to verify their results, tho.

    Nice video :) Did you check for correlation between readiness score and morning PVT? Recently i've found r=-0.31 for PVT Lapses & Total Sleep Time from Dreem 2 Headband. Also i've found -0.52 for Oura night RHR & 0.46 for Oura LnRMSSD (i've calced ln after export). As Dreem 2 tends to have a good accuracy on sleep measure, nightly RHR & RMSSD from Oura seems to have good connection to sleep quality and quantity. I've also checked RHR & RMSSD during deep sleep, but they correlate less with sleep quality. It seems PVT not so sensitive for sleep quality when there is a little unregular sleep deprivation compared with oura hearth metrics, which have moderate correlation around 0.5 :)

    I really enjoyed this video. I have recently stopped wearing the ring during the day. I am an ultrarunner and when I have days with as low as 20,000 or up to 80,000 steps, the algorithm seemed like it dinged me for activity when I felt subjectively fine and my HR/HRV, sleep, and temp were fairly good. Now that I don't wear the ring during the day, I feel like the readiness matches my subjective feeling much more accurately. How do you think the readiness score changes when the user doesn't wear the ring during the day?

    • @johnbranum4371
      @johnbranum4371 3 роки тому

      I'm curious about this too. Considering your daily activity makes up 20% of your readiness score, only wearing it at night has to reduce its accuracy. Its always frustrated me that the Oura app can't/won't pull activity metrics from the health app. I wear my Apple Watch all day and it would be easy for the Oura app to get those metrics.

    Your reviews are kind of stupid and defeats the purpose of any fitness watch or fitness items. Your re iews show non of the devices are accurate and no way can they compare to professional machine's.
    You totally fail to mention they are still useful and all will still show patterns and trends and its tends you should go by, so still useful.

    Very helpful and interesting update on the Oura, great work! My personal interest is in the Recovery Analysis and Capabilities of wearables. I have a client using the Oura who also follows your work and I use a Whoop, so we have compared notes.
    If you're able to in the future, it would be great if you could look into the Whoop device and maybe a comparative on the Whoop and the Oura. Again, great work and excellent video follow ups!
