I LOVE BOGOTA!!! I will say that it took me time (probably over a year living there) before I completely fell in love with the city - the city is so big, and it takes time to get to know!!! People are more reserved than in other parts of Colombia in terms of making friends, but of course they're just being cautious. My favorite parts of the city are La Cinemateca (the local film theatre), DametuLengua in Chapinero for Language exchange and soo many events, Gato Gris (restaurant with live music), Plaza la Perseverancia, THEATRON, and just all of the fun pop up events all over the city!! It's so diverse and definitely not everyone's primary definition of "beauty" like Medellin, but it is so full of life and culture and you just never run out of things to do or places to explore!!
I can't help but get teary-eyed when seeing people from the outside come here and witness the beauty I witness everyday in my city. A city that, despite its shortcomings and areas of opportunity, inspire a huge feeling of pride inside of me. Everyday.
Igualmente. La verdad prefiero identificarme como bogotano antes que colombiano...el odio injustificado del resto de Colombia hacia Bogotá me ha hecho apartarme de esa falso patriotismo que se muestra.

Most people think of mountain destinations as small towns and living in one at the same altitude as Bogota, you can definitely notice a big city has a lot more going on. The temperatures will rarely exceed 90 in the summer and the nights will be around the 50s. Bogota is that happy medium though when one goes to Cartagena on the coast, it will hotter and more humid and December is probably the perfect time to swim in the Atlantic! Columbia is a lot like Miami the opposite of what people think of Buenos Aires being the Paris of South America. So much more to document and that couldn’t be put in one video. Looking forward to your future discoveries in Colombia!
I live outside of my country, and watching this video filled my soul and heart with joy. You are always welcome in Colombia, and thank you for showing it to the world
Went to Bogota in Oct of 2019. Had a BLAST! If you are into big metropolitan cities, check it out. Definitely go to the Gringo Tuesday party on Tuesday if you can! The city is so underrated, I think partly because the weather is NOT tropical, its more like fall weather in the US with bouts of rain, warm during the day cooler at night. If you're a tourist, just stick to the popular tourist areas, don't dress flashy, keep your phone picture taking to the main areas, carry your wallet in your front pocket.
Thank you for sharing your experienced. I visited Bogota this summer after a week in Medellin. The difference in altitude wears you down quickly so get some extra rest. The north side of the city is more affluent and safer but your only worry will be traffic jams. Enjoy the beautiful people and great foods, Bogota is a wonderful place.
Colombia is a beautiful destionation for visitors. You are always welcome here. For locals sometimes it can be very hard living here. The social gap is huge and we as colombians are sick and tired of many bad situations such as lack of opportunities or safety problems.
I worked in the Information Technology field during the 90's and I was fortunate to visit a number of Latin-American countries, some of my most unforgettable memories were in Colombia. Bogota was incredible, much bigger than I'd expected. Full of art, fashion, culture, history, opportunities, and unique experiences, Bogotá is a great city to visit, but if I had a choice I'd would live in Medellin, a fertile region famous for its coffee plantations and its flower farms, for its orchids and butterflies, it is known as the City of Eternal Spring for its idyllic climate, The people are incredibly welcoming, "Paisas" as the folks from Medellín and Antioquia are affectionately known are famously friendly people. It’s not unusual to feel welcome anywhere you go in Colombia, but in Medellín you get the sense that people genuinely are very happy to see you there. They’ll often smile at you in the street and even strike up random conversations (whether you speak Spanish or not). It gives the city a pleasant atmosphere and is another great reason to visit Medellin and Colombia in general. It's a tough choice to make Bogota or Medellin, if I ever have to move out of the US, I would most definitely consider Colombia as one of my choices. Cheers!
Really thank you for present to Bogotá as real as is, Bogotá is a wonderful city and as well as other cities a around the world you have to take care in some places but is not dangerous all the time and all the places, the greatest danger you have coming to Colombia is falling in love this country. I’m Colombian and I’m Bogotan person and is very nice to see you in our country… thank you for your special videos!!!
I'm retired in Medellin Colombia for 6 months now. I went to Bogota last week for the first time, I didn't know if I'd like it there but I really enjoyed it. You made a nice travel vid. You'll love Medellin.
Totally love your video, I’m native from Bogota but raised in Connecticut US, I want to say thank because you focused on showing the good! Not making any negative remarks.
Wow Bogota is beautiful contrasting the news of safety i read. Elevated city with nice people. Thank you Alina for opening up. I Have just subscribed now after so many videos i saw from eastern Europe. Nice!
I live here and sometimes I think this never ending safety issues are just tabloid news. Of course you have to be careful and never go to a dangerous zone... Like every city in the world. I have never been robbed
I'm Colombian and it's wonderful that you can describe Bogotá in a positive way. I miss to be on the streets with the locals, free concerts, theather, food and diversity 💕💕💕🤟🤟🤗 Hugs from Norway desde Noruega🇳🇴
Headed to Bogota in February super excited. I’ve only traveled in the United States. I’ve been to New York City, Philadelphia, Honolulu, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Augusta, Columbia, San Juan, Tucson and Phoenix. Going to visit Guatemala City and then Colombia in 2022
The furnicular up to Monserrat was one of my absolute favorites in Bogota when I visited in 2015. I was fortunate to spend 6 weeks in the country with my father, who is originally from Bucaramanga. If you are traveling around the country, I do recommend Bucaramanga and Chichamoya Canyon. Of course the beautiful coastal regions (Cali, Isla del Rosario) are incredible as well!
Thank you for coming! I really enjoyed your video, I was born in Bogotá and have always been here, it's a lovely city... you are welcome any time you want... Also, ajiaco is amazing, it's my favorite local dish, I'm so glad you tried it!!
Wow that ajiaco did look amazing! Such a colourful place, Monserrat looks like the place you have to visit when there. Glad you are having an enlightening and wonderful experience Alina! 💚
Bogota is great. Lived there for 3 years, would love to go back. If you get to the Gold Museum (which is extraordinary) , the restaurant there has the best Ajiaco I tasted in my time there. Cartagena is meh🙄🙄okay for a weekend. Medellin, Giradot, Manizales and Barranquilla are all fantastic. Also recommend La Guajira, about the only desert in the tropics. Quite amazing place.

To be honest i am greatful that you are showing us that Colombia and specially my city Bogota are very magic and nice places it is worth it to go there proud to be colombian
I have been to Bogotá ten times so far because my wife is from there, and I can say that you gave a very accurate representation of the city. Three recommendations I would make that you didn't mention would include the gold museum, the Botero museum (a very famous Colombian artist) and the salt cathedral.
im from Bogotá, and I love when Foreginers talk good things about the city, which one is in my opinion one of the most beautiful cities in South America, so.. thanks for that video, it was excellent 👍🏼👋🏼
Great video. I live here in Bogotá… and I lived for 7 years in the US between Philadelphia and NYC … it’s weird to compare but I find some semblance between Bogotá and NYC. Regarding some of the dishes you mentioned, No, You can’t find Ajiaco anywhere in South America, not even anywhere in Colombia it is a typical dish from Bogotá.
I'm Colombian from the coffee growing area. I've been living in Toronto for over 20 years and lived in Bogota for over 10 years. I loved this video. I visited Bogota a couple of months ago and climbed Monserrate ... I miss the city. Thank you.
@@alex_flyce Yes, the named is after the mountain with the same name that lies near to Barcelona, Spain. Spanish colonists were the first to settle in Colombia, so a lot of the culture is similar to Spain.

PS: In Cartagena, make sure you go visit the islands of Mucura and Islote. They are a two hour boat ride away and are amazing. Look them up.
hey welcome to Colombia Alina!! I am from colombia and live in Santa Marta a city located at the north coast of colombia, I recommend you to visit Santa Marta of course and Cartagena these cities have an interesting architecture both cities have colonial building colorful streets, I also recommend visiting medellin, Bogota or any other colombian city all of them have their own magic and try all the colombian food as much as you can, however, I recommend you be careful when filming with your celphone or camera because there have been some cases of robbery, but do not be afraid I am telling you this just to take into account and be aware of this type of unpleasant situations. in general I can say that colombian people are friendly and kind. I hope you have fun and enjoy Colombia.
I'm visiting Colombia right now for about 6 weeks. Unfortunately my Colombian family won't show me around Bogota. We did spend two weeks in Cartagena and Santa Marta.
Just came across this video! I took my first ever trip out of the North America back in April and it was to Bogota! I actually stayed in Chapinero as well and at one point while traveling around stayed in the Airbnb that is directly across the street from the view that you show when sitting at Casa Mama Luz! Super cool! I miss it so much!
This is one stylish city. Did you need a couple of days to acclimatise yourself to the high altitude, or did you feel full of energy from the time you arrived there?
Yes, Bogota looks much better than I expected!!!Wish you will have a wonderful stay in Colombia🇨🇴 Tokyo is still one of the best places in the world for both tourists and locals😁
I loved this video. 2 things I dont like here in Bogota, unsafety and traffic but that depends on where you walk and at what time. Just have some common sense and you will enjoy withouth inconvenients.
I went to a coffee farm outside of bogota. They told us almost all people who pick the coffee beans are women in Colombia. That’s why their coffee is so much better quality because women are more delicate with the beans. That’s what they told us. It was a fun trip there. Loved the gold Museum also. And Botero art
Alina, well done. About 20 years ago I visited Cartagena first time, and will never forget the experience. It was like a little Miami with historical center. Love that. Now, in 2016 I went back for some medical business, and I have to say ..., .. the city transformed ... , you will see
I’m from Bogota now living in Texas I miss somethings about my home city I had a nice childhood there you are courageous woman to be there walking alone and making the videos . Nice video.
Thank you for speaking the truth about Bogotá. I’m Colombian but not from Bogotá. I lived there for 2 years and I loved it. If someone was to ask me to describe Bogotá, I’d say that Bogotá represents the best and the worst of Colombia. Bogotá can offer many opportunities for the rest of Colombians but if don’t know how to behave in it, it will eat you alive and spit you out.
I love the vibe of your video. Most importantly, your narration is very good and you don't over talk like a lot of American vloggers. It was the first time I watched you. You have just earned one more fan.
Colombia is much better now than when I first was there in the 1990s at the height of the drug wars. Still not Singapore, but much better for those that can take care of themselves.

I practically lived on aguapanela when I was in Colombia! I personally prefer it cold, and it's very refreshing on a hot day or after a tough sweaty hike at high altitude :-P Did you try lucuma ice cream? Lucuma is a fruit that has the texture of an avocado and the flavour of a yam and lucuma ice cream is delicious.

I always watch the video because of the thumbnail, I love Alina's smile
Bogota is a beautiful city. Don’t forget to check out the salt Cathedral right outside Bogota.
Cathedral of salt in Zipaquirá
I can't help but get teary-eyed when seeing people from the outside come here and witness the beauty I witness everyday in my city. A city that, despite its shortcomings and areas of opportunity, inspire a huge feeling of pride inside of me. Everyday.
I love my City, My country.

Wish I can visit colombia

Colombia no columbia
I lived in Bogota for almost 20 years, and the way you show it, makes me fall in love again of Chapinero
Thank you very much Alina for this video about Bogotá, I really appreciate it, happy to know that you liked it. Thank you very much again.
Always welcome to Colombia
PD. Ajiaco is the soup that Madrigal Family was eating in one important scene of Encanto movie.
Cheers!
Villa de leyva es hermoso...Colombia es hermosa y su gente.
Funny Bogotanos don't feel that in Medellin. U can't compare. Give me a break
Colombia is the best. Trying to go this year as well.
I am an american born in Colombia.. From the Cauca Valley
But Bogota is defenetly ny favorite city in Colombia.
Chimba de video!!!!🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Really thank you for present to Bogotá as real as is, Bogotá is a wonderful city and as well as other cities a around the world you have to take care in some places but is not dangerous all the time and all the places, the greatest danger you have coming to Colombia is falling in love this country. I’m Colombian and I’m Bogotan person and is very nice to see you in our country… thank you for your special videos!!!
Thank you for taking us to Colombia? I really liked the architecture of Bogota.
Nice!
Thank you very much!
@melissa López thank you for opening up from the local perspective. I appreciate it.
I live here and sometimes I think this never ending safety issues are just tabloid news. Of course you have to be careful and never go to a dangerous zone... Like every city in the world. I have never been robbed
@@chokispokis agree on it.
It’s so clean and vibrant ❤
I'm Colombian and it's wonderful that you can describe Bogotá in a positive way.
I miss to be on the streets with the locals, free concerts, theather, food and diversity 💕💕💕🤟🤟🤗

Bogota looks great That cathedral was amazing and the views were breathtaking..like anywhere you go it's knowing the safe areas to visit..stay safe ❤
Watching this from Bogotá. Proud of my city!
Thank you!
►Check your spelling: Es el Cañón del Chicamocha. Bucaramanga is a wonderful city with lots of nice looking buildings♥!
I miss u Lulo 😭 (A colombian guy living in Canada).
Thanks lovely! Hope you’re doing well!
Ajiaco is one of the best soups ever made! Us, locals, love it
Bogota is great.

I lived in Bogota all my life. Now, Vancouver is my home. I miss tamales, ajiaco and aguapanela. This video was 100% amazing because you showed the most essential part of Bogotá.
I'm very glad!
Wow! It looks like such an artistic city. How fun!
Colombia for me has the same vibe as Ukraine in 90s,love it! My fav city is Medellin, not only mine I guess) But the most I enjoyed visiting coffee region especially Salento and Valle del cocora, fincas r must visit as well with Juan Valdez roasting coffee beans
You are really working hard in this tough condition, perception and image of Bogota is not good, after watch this video I have some positive feeling about Bogota, thanks.
I loved my week in Bogota. Great food , nice people & affordable goods. A bit crowded at times but what big metropolis isn't? 👍
I loved the music, Colombia looks awesome
I love Bogota. Thanks for sharing. The soup you had is pronounced more like "aheeako" which I am sure you found out by now... One of my favorite Colombian dishes.
The real name in Spanish is AJIACO and the pronunciation is as you wrote.
I live here since 2010 and I just love this type of videos to re discover my beautiful city and its magic. Come to Colombia!!
I really love your travel videos Alina. They give a whole new perspective to the countries you visit. Take care 🙏Greetings from Australia 🦘
Bogotá siempre tiene la mejor gastronomía.
What a wonderful video! I'm from Bogotá, I'm living in Toronto and you made me miss my city even more!
Excellent video! Big props for showing us the local cuisine. I have personally never seen anyone cover this topic as extensively as you, so kudos 👏💯
Thank you so much!
Thank you.
the name is really similar to the one near barcelona: Montserrat; probably it comes from there :c
@@alex_flyce Yes, the named is after the mountain with the same name that lies near to Barcelona, Spain. Spanish colonists were the first to settle in Colombia, so a lot of the culture is similar to Spain.
I’ve been watching this video for 20 seconds… I want to go there already
Alina loved this video glad you are enjoying your trip and exploring a new country, looking forward to next videos.
Bellos lugares de Bogotá sueño de algunos
Thanks, I think you depicted Bogota in a very real, but positive way. I live there, and the things you say are accurate. It is nice to see your city from an outsider's perspective. You did not hide your apprehension, but documented positively what you liked.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for spreding info about my country, loved to read all the beautiful comments .
You've done a fantastic job at representing the country and city where I was born in a favorable light. Thank you, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
My pleasure!
Alina,
I am a big (Danish) fan of your channel. You basically made my secret dream come true. I love how personalized your videos are and how your audience, deservedly, keeps growing.
I am currently living in Medellin as I am engaged to a local Colombian girl.
Let me know if you need a local guide upon arrival. Would love to show you around.
Thank you for your recommendations!
I'm visiting Colombia right now for about 6 weeks. Unfortunately my Colombian family won't show me around Bogota. We did spend two weeks in Cartagena and Santa Marta.
your travel video in Bogota is so much amazing, and peaceful... lovely place to visit soon ....
Bogotá is sensational. Thanks for the tips
Bogota is so clean and vibrant!
This is one stylish city. Did you need a couple of days to acclimatise yourself to the high altitude, or did you feel full of energy from the time you arrived there?
Soy colombiano, amo a Bogotá. Me gustó mucho este video y lo mejor es que su presentadora disfruta y le gusta todo lo que come.
Yes, Bogota looks much better than I expected!!!Wish you will have a wonderful stay in Colombia🇨🇴 Tokyo is still one of the best places in the world for both tourists and locals😁
Totally agree :)
Alina thank you for visiting our country, you are very beautiful and intelligent.
I loved this video. 2 things I dont like here in Bogota, unsafety and traffic but that depends on where you walk and at what time. Just have some common sense and you will enjoy withouth inconvenients.
I spent six weeks in Colombia in 1997 and loved it. Medellín was my favorite city. Also flew down to Leticia in the Amazon, that was an experience.
What a lovely video about my city....I love Bogotá

I practically lived on aguapanela when I was in Colombia! I personally prefer it cold, and it's very refreshing on a hot day or after a tough sweaty hike at high altitude :-P
Did you try lucuma ice cream? Lucuma is a fruit that has the texture of an avocado and the flavour of a yam and lucuma ice cream is delicious.
