I'm from the USA, but have been living in Bogotá for almost 2 years. My GF's family plays tejo frequently, but I'm not really very good. Another thing that is common is to put cheese in a drink called aguapanela, but it's a bit too rich/sweet for me, so I don't drink it much.
Locals play Tejo mostly in rural Andean areas surrounding Bogota specially Sundays, due to be an old indigenous game from the Chibcha culture that used to lived there (they lived in those highlands as big as New Hampshire and Vermont combined)... if you go really far from Bogotá, you won´t find this game. Take into account Colombia is a big country
As a Colombian from Bogotá, thank you for coming! And above all, thank you for being respectful of our culture and our city. If you ever plan on coming back to Colombia, I'd suggest visiting other cities (and towns!!!!!!!!) you haven't visited before, since I really think each of our cities has its own people with different culture, accents, fruits and food in general. Thanks for visiting!!
Aléja, parce I want to congratulate you for the English you speak and the quality of culture you know. I have lived in the United States for 20 years and I love knowing that there are people in Colombia who can help foreigners with the information you gave them. Thank you for showing another side of Bogota that not even I, being from Hay, knew about. gracias
Bogota is very beautiful, magical, charming, its cold climate is delicious, its art galleries, museums, it has a lot of cultural diversity and Monserrate is very beautiful, it has a lot of nature, Bogota is incredible, it is the best city in Colombia.🤩🤩🤩🤩
thats ants are from Santander (state) another beautiful place to visit, a lot of history, so delicius food and over all an amazing people how will recive you with open arms
Im half colombian half bolivian and it makes me so glad to see how you experience things in such a positive way. Colombia has a very tragic story but our people will be always the happiest. I think you should see more about the bogotazo since you were in bogota. Lots of love! ❤
I live outside of my country, and watching this video filled my soul and heart with joy. You are always welcome in Colombia, and thank you for showing it to the world
Hearing them discuss who is "giving papaya" is everything hahahahaha. Thanks for the video! It's always great to see strangers allow themselves to be fascinated by our city.
A friend and I just booked a flight to Bogota for December! Can’t wait to eat a tamale at La Puerta Falsa, throw back a few beers over some tejo, and experience the local nightlife! I was sitting in the San Juan PR airport waiting for a flight looking at the departure board and saw Bogota on the list. Three days later we booked a flight!
The diversity of landscapes, climates, cultures, geography, flora and fauna made Colombia rank number 3 of the most beautiful countries in the world, according to Forbes' ranking.
Thank you for coming, displaying and respecting our country! We hope you enjoyed it and come back and explore other regions and cities!!!! ❤🇨🇴 It looks like you guys had so much FUN 🤩
As a Colombian, I'm glad you had a good experience here in Colombia. Thanks for showing the world our beautiful country, and remember “don't give papaya”
You guys have such an amazing energy and make a great team together. I loved this video and as a Colombian myself, I love to see more and more people from all around the world coming to my country. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Bogotá and next time you come to Colombia, please consider coming to Cali, my city. I'll be happy to be your tour guide. ❤❤
La proxima vez, visiten los alrededores de Bogota, la sabana de Bogotá, vayan a Chia, Cajica, Zipaquira, las reservas naturales cerca a Bogotá como el parque natural de la niebla de chicaque. The next time, you will visit Colombia, I recomended visit around places near to Bogotá, you can go to visit Chia, Cajica, Zipaquira, natural reserves near like natural park Niebla del chicaque etc. Welcome to Colombia !!!!!
As a bogotá native i just kind of want you guys to know that in plaza de bolivar there is the basic structure of any city or town in Colombia, is the center of al 3 powers and church therefore, you saw the capitol- congress, Bogota's main church, the mayors house and the justice palace and about a block away there is Casa de Nariño wich is the presidents house... you can actually book tours for most of this places in the internet for free... colombian law states that all 3 houses for power must be open to the public there are specific times and dates but is a historic tour that explaines how each power work in Colombia..., super recomended
Y’all are adorable. Just learned about this channel watching the private island video on kara and Nate’s original channel. Kinda feels like the good ol days of kara and Nate so I’ll be watching every video.
It is crazy seen this as a local, like we take this for granted, but its like really cool having this everyday, also they were in less than half the city which make room for a lot of new discoveries. Hope you enjoyed your stay!
It's really easy to feel that way about your own back yard. But we like to think of it like there's probably millions of people who would go to where we live for the first time and be absolutely blown away just because it's so different than what they are used to. That's why we love traveling. We get to experience so many different cultures.
21:08 very nice explanation, just one thing, actually "calles" goes from east to west, and "carreras" goes from north to south as carrera 14 which is the same Caracas Av
So happy you enjoyed my city! But you remained in just one área and the city offers so much more! Next time, don't miss the Gold Museum, the Barco and Julio Mario Santodomingo public Libraries, the Colon theater, the G, T and Rose zones for food, drinks and party, the Usaquén market, and, if you go to the north away from the city, the Salt Cathedral and the sabana... You're going to need more time than 3 days though! 🙂🇨🇴
I am so happy for you Tony and Sarah. I first started following your The Detour Duo channel after researching visiting Anchorage and found Tony's video. I've watched you both ever since. So excited to see all your new adventures. I even signed up for FareDrop.
Amazing video, can’t wait to come back and visit Paloquemao. Just one correction in 9:13 there’s actually chili in Bogota and its surroundings and I know because I saw this tree with red fruits on it in some of the places I visited, till I asked someone at a restaurant (north of bogota) and they gave me that to try; well, that thing was not spicy at all at the moment but 5 minutes later it was burning
This video reminds me of when I used to have friends and they had a ton of energy and would drag me around to see stuff. This video was a lot of fun. This was very colorful, you guys loosened up some with drinking, saw tons of new fruits and foods, met a friend, got a great view of the city, showed some art, the video showed you travelling in ubers and showed how to get around. Thats not the fun part, but its important. The street art is amazing here and you walked past it, and there was not a lot of music here? I saw you in your last vid in phillippines, and you dedicated a lot of time to music. Games too! that was fun surprise. This video had everything but a segment on music and a segment on relaxing. They arent downsides, but I was kinda hoping to see that, but its not a big deal. Tony And Sarah, and FareDrop. This video has 4k views, and it really needs more. Nate and Kara have 17 employees, so you have enough money to do stuff, this video right here!!! This is the one you need to spend money to push on youtube. You need to drop some dough on THIS VIDEO!!!!! THIS IS THE ONE YOU NEED TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT!!
I'm from Colombia and I'm really happy that you could come and visit this incredible city and that you could enjoy your visit. Also I recommend you to visit other cities as Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Cali and many more. ❤
I think it's the best video showing the touristic things to do in my city I ever seen, thank you so much for come here and showing the world my beautiful country, new subscriber 🇨🇴🥰
Thanks for bringing Colombia up in good light :) A small comment. That's not Tejo. That's Mini-Tejo. Tejo involves much heavier irons and much more distant targets. I couldn't even reach the target in Tejo until I was like 15, it's really far away.
I love seeing people enjoying Bogotá, kind of sad to see they gave you the tourist prices/places sometimes that are way overboard. THAT SAID I can see you had a very good guide and she did gave you the most authentic experience. As other said, Bogotá is great, but the many cities and towns in the savana are something to experience too... granted, it would take you much more than 3 days (maybe a month is too short too?) to get the full experience.
perspective is everything. To us it felt really inexpensive compared to US prices for things. We learned something new for next time we visit, especially when we see more of the country. Aleja was so great. We honestly just clicked and became friends.
Amazing video from my city Bogotá! Amazing host too! Amazing food that I miss so much! Just one little thing, Calles run from east to west, so from the mountains. Carreras run from North to South.
Salt cathedral was like an hour outside of Bogeta, and we didn't have time to drive out there. We prioritized visiting just one museum while here, and since Botero was close and free, we chose that one. Next time, we might try and see those places we didn't get to. Thanks for the recommendations 😊
I am from Bogota. I don't know Alejandra, but with this video, I can say that she is doing a great job. The tour in Paloquemado looked fantastic. Play tejo is always a must. When Tony said that you need beer to improve your aim for tejo, it is a scientific fact. I called "balance alcohólico" (alcoholic balance). Bogotá is a big city, and of course, you missed a lot of things; however, it was almost perfect for being your first time there. You only missed one must in Bogotá, to try Ajiaco.
She was the perfect host. So knowledgeable. I hope anyone that wants to tour Bogota for thr first time reaches out to her first. I knew there was a science to it! What is Aijaco?
So glad you visited my country and enjoyed all that delicious food. Hope you get to be back and come to the Caribbean coast of Colombia: Santa Marta or San Andres would be great options with awesome beaches and nature. Always fun to watch you guys!
Bro, born and raised in Colombia and I haven’t tried half of those fruits??? Did you guys get to see “carambolo”? It looks like the weirdest cucumber but when you slice it you end with a little star shape!

*I'm happy tourist come to Colombia my country. I recommend you to visit the Beautifull Bucaramanga city*
As a bogotan yes, yes I have, am I good at it? No, I am not, I don't think I have hit a single mecha in my life.
I'm from the USA, but have been living in Bogotá for almost 2 years. My GF's family plays tejo frequently, but I'm not really very good.
Another thing that is common is to put cheese in a drink called aguapanela, but it's a bit too rich/sweet for me, so I don't drink it much.
Thanks for the recommendation! That makes me feel better knowing I hit one. Probably missed the board entirely more times than I hit a mecha 😅
