Hey Justin! Thanks for making this game, it's awesome! And also a big thanks for the Rupees on floor 3 ;) I'd say we could push this down to a sub 20, just need to pray a bit to the RNG gods.
@@boomst1ck I just found that if you synergize the magic cape with the pendant of magic you can spam the "item" button for infinite magic and thought I might have some GAME BREAKING edge to try and get WR but then saw this video and realized it doesn't even matter 🥵
yeah, at first I was in love with this game, but when I saw what the end boss does (avoiding spoilers) that was a deal breaker for me. In my opinion it makes everything you do before entirely pointless.

Different game altogether from LttP. It's a roguelike based on it. Uses the same sprites for Link and the enemies, borrows a few others for character choices, but otherwise, it is it's own beast.
I’ve seen a speed run around 45 minutes. Didn’t think under 40 was possible. Now I see that even this run could’ve been optimized a bit more. It would take a lot of luck though
@@Clone24a indeed! preferably you'd have at least 3 bombs going into the fight, that way you can kill all of them instantly and then just handle the pink one.
@@boomst1ckI wonder what would happen if you kept bombing them all at the same time. Would they all die at once or would you still have to fight the pink one?
Wow that's impressive run my friend! I'm not a speed runner but I thought I would try your strategies and see how far it got me and I made it 55.55.17, I did it without the moon pearl, I'm sure I could do better if I had it.
A couple a weeks ago 55-ish was WR, and getting a sub hour was insane :D just keep at it! My fastest run without key nor pearl was 44, so getting both of those saves ALOT of time
@@boomst1ck I just ran a game and got around 39 min so I've improved a bit, no moon pearl. I hate the RNG on that. Do you just reset if they don't both spawn at the store in town?
@@Maverick911011 yup, afaik the store in town is the only place you can get either the key or the moon pearl. so if they aren't there it's an reset. getting to the village should take about 10min so it's not that bad of a reset point, but it takes some grinding to get a decent rng run.
The pathing in this run is suspect to me. At 14:54 you entered a long room and got 90% through it just to back track to the beginning of the room to pick up the blue tunic in a chest. 18:58 you go out of your way just to grab a room full of rupees. The only other times you entered a room that had a block was when the correct pathing was behind the block. You just had to perfectly detour around it.
It’s two things, the run itself was pretty much good RNG on the pathing, which I'm not denying. The second part is you're not familiar enough with the logic. Let me explain: 14:54 This one is explained rather easily. I didn't properly memorize the layout of the room to the right of this "long hallway". After getting almost to the door I notice on the map this is a room I've already been in. So I figured it would most likely contain a key or switch and decided to check the room to the left instead. 18:58 Here I'm looking for progression, since I have both the Big Key and the Moon Pearl neither a key or a switch is progression. At 18:48 I see a path blocked by the blue switch barrier, which is exactly what I was looking for. Since it should be progression towards the next floor. However, right after the barrier I find a key in the chest. This made me unsure if this path will lead me further in the dungeon, or if it was just one part of the puzzle to get a key. Often times a key that's needed for a door somewhere else will be locked behind a switch barrier. So this made me unsure about this path, and I remembered passing a doorway leading to the right in the same room, which potentially could have the locked door for this key. Alas, it didn't and going down was the correct choice all along. At this point in the run, those rupees are useless, so it would be terrible routing by me if I went out of my way to knowingly grab it. Hope this helps, else you can just continue to suspect me of cheating I guess..? :)
nice run, I never had one where I could afford pearl + master key without doing the trade sequence... maybe I should pick rupees as starting item instead
I'm unsure what the point of taking your items for the final confrontation is considering the genre of this game, very strange design choice by the dev
From what I've heard/read, apparently it was the product of a big burn-out period on the dev's part. In hindsight, it's not surprising in the least - most fan-games like this run into that same sort of Burnt-Out Endgame syndrome, to varying degrees.
Very unfortunate, I also watched the Vinny Vinestream VOD here on UA-cam and his chat said the dev was adamant about keeping that boss as is. Burn-out or not it seems so sad that all the work put in ends in a betrayal of the entire journey as a player and all the work as the dev. The dev certainly has the right to choose all aspects of their game but this feels like they cut off their nose to spite their face.
@@kagato0987I still think it’s plenty hard enough even before the boss. For a free game it’s quite polished. Definitely a time waster on the steam deck on a plane. I applaud the guy.
@@frankrodriguez1981 I'm in this same camp, honestly. I haven't even downloaded the latest update (I got mine when there was still a link on the website, hah!), but the core game itself is really good - just making it to Agahnim at all felt like a victory for me.
I don't really mind. Last boss is just a formality in this game, it's about the journey to get there :) But I understand where you're coming from, it's missing that feeling you get when you had such a good run that the last boss just melts in seconds.
Fair enough, and I kinda agree. It's just that you could easily neglect the dark rooms by cranking your gamma way up anyways, which would become the standard.
