For anyone considering doing this process. It worked great on my 2017 f150. I did this exact process including distilled water, let dry in front of a fan overnight, and they turned out fantastic. 2 gallons of degreaser and 2 gallons of distilled water was more than enough to do all 3 lights.
Looks great! Purple power and super clean will do this as well for anyone curious. Keep in mind this may not work on every tail light/headlight depending on the manufacturer.
I like it a lot because it's a really good look and technically it's still legal. It still has the red reflectors and the factory color lights so there's really nothing you could get a ticket for. If you're really concerned about the brightness of the lights just switch them over to LED bulbs.

I had never heard of that before, but it turned out great. I already did a thin spray on tint on mine, so I probably won't do it to mine, but they're about the same darkness, just yours kept the factory shine. Definitely try out some cheap ones for context, you already have a view from me.

Nice never thought of doing it like this. Super clean degreaser also works to “de chrome” plastic headlight housing and tail light housings
you should try it with the OEM halogen headlights you had before. just to see what they look like
Looks great! I would probably paint the bulb sockets too. This way you don’t see the light gray from the light socket through the lenses.

I did this on my 17 F150, then added Diode Dynamics red led bulbs and white leds for the reverse bulbs

Good ol' Zep Purple, accidently stripped chrome badges off a couple engine covers that way. Never thought to use it to do this though. Looks great!
