Please read this before commenting: This is a one-off part, and this was the fastest way to make it with the tooling I have available at my shop. No, I should not have used CAD, it would have taken longer with no benefit. The ovals intersect at compound angles (rotated inward and downward), and the round tube is offset to one side. Measuring and drawing this all up perfectly to make templates on a computer would take a lot of unnecessary additional time. And no, this is not a part that would be practical to 3d print. It is going on an engine, so it is exposed to heat cycling and vibration.

6061. com hi does your website explain the process at the end when you went over the welds pulsing to get that wide clean bead result?
Zen Master Fabricator whose action speaks rather than words....excellent work
It's a piece of the art!
if ANYONE criticizes this , is just an asshole !!!!! probably there are several ways to achieve this, but your craftsmanship is impeccable !!!!
Leaving the weld would have been nice, cos its a good quality job. But sanding it off is also nice. I am torn between the 2. Great work
NO MUSIC, NO TALKING, NO GOOFY FAKE ASS UA-cam PERSONALITY. GREAT WORK!!!
WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?
@@an_R_key - Probably because all of those attributes are so rare he can't believe it.
@@an_R_key BECAUSE HE'S SO FREAKIN EXCITED BY THE LACK OF BULLSHIT
I just now found this guy's videos, I agree with you, some of the BEST VIDEO'S on You Tube.
Yeah the FAKE ASS UA-cam PERSONALITY you see every where else is old.
This guy is top notch in so many different ways.
shazam... THAT is something else. bravo.
Wow - you got a This Old Tony "Shazam" -- is there higher praise? :)
Tony, now I challenge you to make another part for my car. Aaron has done this for me, up for the challenge? Hehe. Love your channel Tony.
All this and a drop in from T.O.T. How cool is that!

This is perfection. I'm 78 years old and trying to master the AC /DC Tig. First you need a Brain like a computer and second I don't have enough years left to be good let alone a perfectionist. Very well done.
My friend, you are a great master craftsman. I am subscribed with you and I have learned a lot in a short time. There was never a soldier with Tig. I bought a Fronius Magic Wave 2200 Job in February of this year and I have already made figures with 40 x 40 x 3 mm aluminum tubes that have left many people open-mouthed. I am eternally grateful and very encouraging with your channel.
Comrade 6061! Sheer talent aside, your boundless skills with CAD (cardboard aided design) and creative use of the tooling you have on hand never ceases to amaze me. DRINK MORE VODKAS MY FRIEND!
Тут сказали "Водка"?
Почему то я всегда читая на английском слова водка произношу его с американо-русским акцентом
never saw CAD defined like that :D:D:D
Wódka есть водка :)
bahahahahaha awesome comment lol
I have watched every one of your videos and think you have the best channel on YT. I’ve been in the metal cutting industry for 32 years and you sir, have a special gift. Don’t ever stop sharing such excellent content. Also, love the fail buzzer!!
+1 for the Fail Buzzer
+2 I actually LOL every time
It's from Family Feud, right? Yup, I love it, too.
The buzzer shows the quest for excellence. These videos show how the man behind the helmet is genius.
Even for a non-welder like me the way you establish your references for getting the angles right was very informative. Good for general logical thinking somehow even if I couldn't describe why in words! Thanks.
handling big gaps like a boss.... watching this like a meditation....
You are a highly skilled fabricator that I enjoy watching. It's amazing how you come up with patterns and design. I was an Aluminum Instructor in my early days and spent 40 plus years as a welder and fabricator but the skills you display make me look like a rookie and I was pretty darn good. I'm disabled and have difficulty doing anything any more but your videos really lift my spirits. I still have a Miller 330 A/BP AC/DC welding machine that looks like brand new, approximately 100 hours or less on it. If I can round up some materials I might try and duplicate some of the great builds you have done, should be interesting with my HF only going to 100 on my machine. I'm sure you are using a machine with at least 400 setting on HF. I started out Oxygen/Acetylene welding and the dipping pattern came pretty easy. We used to gas weld our Aluminum since we didn't have an AC/DC HF machine till later when I bought my first one, a Miller 230 A/BP in 1972 or 1973. What a fantastic machine to have at the time. Sorry to rattle on, your videos are encouraging and I hope the young welders benefit from you sharing your skills. Thank you.
I always enjoy reading comments like these.
I have just purchased a PrimeWeld 200 machine and have not plugged it in yet. And I am 69-yr-old Vietnam Veteran and watching these videos will be an awesome replacement for some of my PTSD classes. The more I watch the more excited I get. You are inspiring. I have never tig welded before and I hope to do a lot of it. Thanks for the display of talent and intelligent thinking.
I'm so happy you've decided to enable comments on your videos, i've been watching your channel for a while and was upset that there was no way for me to express my admiration for your skills in aluminum welding and fab
This is bad ass fabrication, no CAD, NO CNC PLASMA! This seperates the men from the boys! Well done sir!
Beautiful workmanship, a true artist and nice 6061 on the calculator :)
I love your approach to solving the problem. Just get it done. 3-D CAD etc is great but so time consuming when you just want to make the part. Came out perfect. Unbelievable craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing your technique.
I have ADD and watching stuff like this really helps to calm me down.
That was amazing to me. Very nice work and presentation. Inspiring, humorous, entertaining, creative, and so much more.
Thank you!
That part is still on my car today and it looks like the day I received it. Thanks Aaron.
@@capitaldd5840 It was made to fit up to a larger throttle body.
The best TIG welding I have ever seen in my 44 years on this Earth. My Dad was a Boilermaker/Welder for just over 50 years and pales in comparison. What do they say "you have either got it, or you don't?". It is the little tricks and techniques that make everything easy, and you my friend, have a lot of them up your sleeve. I look forward to trying and learning them for myself. I want to learn and perfect every one, you are willing to show and teach. Nice vid bro.
I’m usually good for about 2-5 minutes on videos but when you post yours I’m in it till the end! WELL DONE! PHENOMENAL FAB SKILLS!
I'm enjoying watching your good video.
I support you in Korea.
thanks man
I have no idea what in the world you made, but it was amazing to watch all the detail you put into your work :)
I've welded for thirty years and this was awesome to watch. You've done your homework to be skilled at what you do. Keep up the great work and be safe. God bless
I learned a lot from this video. No stupid music or product pitches or useless commentary.
Siempre me quedó hipnotizado mirando tus trabajos, no sé si es por la calidad de ellos o por el sonido del TIG jajaja. Tus trabajos son talento puro.
Absolutely magnificent!
You know you are doing something right as a fabricator/craftsman when the legend Ron Covell is watching your fabrication videos.
@@Hilliard99999 - That is so true. I just attended one of Ron's workshops and it was awesome!
You realize sir, you’ve got the gift! Excellent video. I was mesmerized watching this and the 18 minutes went by in a snap.
I'll been welding Aluminum for 20 years, your SKILLS are on a different level. Never seen anyone close to you and how you work, you make it look so EASY when in reality is so HARD. Keep it up thnx for the tips
Awesome jig fabrication, I've used Legos for positioning before but will now have to add some play-doh to my tool box.
This is so cool!
TIG welding seems so peaceful. I'd love to learn it some day.
Wow as a hobbyist fabricator: that is amazing. fascinating to watch you make a complex part with basic stock and basic layout tools. Anyone can do it with CAD/CAM, a true artisan can do it with his mind/hands !
Beautiful!
Dude. You are an unbelievable Craftsman, Mechanic and Out-of-the Box Thinker. Thanks so much for your display and presentation. Warren
What an intricate way to make a very awkward part. Well done. Loved the fully sanded down shape, and THEN weld the bottom section on. Also liked the smoothing out of the buildup with the arc. It looked really schmick when it was finished.
Smoothing out the buildup/blending the weld in is something that anyone who has done quite a bit of Alu welding knows all too well about, I used to be able to lay a single bead of Alu like it was done by a Robot Alu Mig welder back in the day many many moons ago.
Now I am just an old fart with a totally buggered back.
Wow.
I've never welded in my life but this makes me want to be a welder.
I was following along, and then you brought out the playdoh. Like whhhhhhattttt. This is the type of fab that I love! Totally creative!
I repaired an aluminum grill for my motorhome that I backed into. My touchdown score was -54 and since the grill was partially powdercoated and very contaminated with oil and dirt, my frustration and buzzer score was off the chart. Thanks for sharing and adding a bit of humor.
I want to do the same thing for my Porsche Cayman, add a larger throttle body and make a plenum out of stainless for it. The problem is I am BRAND new in the welding scene and haven't got all the addons to convert my stick welder to TIG yet. Maybe some day, or I'll do it in mild steel and then powder coat it! You definitely have inspired me to do something outside my wheelhouse.
You'll always wish you had gone stainless. Just do it, it's not that expensive for the Tig torche and bottle. Just practice first or you'll end up powder coating your stainless piece anyways
Trouble with stainless is you need argon on both sides of your weld, or at least need to prevent oxygen from getting to it. You could use solar flux instead of flowing argon on both sides while you construct your piece. I would recommend building it out of mild steel first, for the practice and then stainless since stainless is so much tougher to work with and your current level of experience. Best of luck with it!
@@bretbradbury5559 just seal ends and put a purging line into the pipe then weld.
A nicely calculated addition at 13:27.
This Old Tony would be proud, haha
I really enjoy fabricating and can see how you have accomplished so many angles and contours with great success. There is a pride to making a one of of anything. Great work !
Quite impressive the quality of your craftman work. Saw it all and even never did mig or tig. Thank you.
Absolutely fantastic! Spell-binding if you have ever tried to fab and weld aluminum. I was amazed how you filled that void with no backing material. "working without a net" LOL Great stuff!!!
You manage to get that thing into strange places!!!! :) Amazing talent - awesome video
Your skill, technical proficiency and attention to detail were nothing short of incredible
I had moments where i seriously questioned your thought process, and your band saw tactics, but those tig skills are outstanding and there was method to the mayhem (gap filling). Nice vid, you get a like.
Great job. It was fascinating to watch.
The little "mess up" sound effect cracks me up 😂
Aluminum TIG has always been my favorite. Great job!
Beautiful!!!
I like your honest buzzes when you mess up. But you carry on.
Coolness is you!
Finally, we see that you're human. I was starting to have my doubts...
At the end of the video it says ''thanks for watching'''. But I would say thanks for making.
Absolutely wonderful! Breathtaking welding and stunning video! Totally absorbing, so thank you for a totally absorbing 18 minutes!
Wow that’s some kickass work. I do all my own work because I don’t trust anyone anymore. But this guy I would hire in a hartbeat. Keep up the good work.
When I see an 18 minute long video,, I say NO WAY am I going to sit through that,,, before you know it,, I want more.
I spent 30 years doing sheet metal fab and instal I especially liked the stainless fab and tig...miss the trade
I have been doing that for 7 years now
I've been doing it for 30 years + another 14... 44 years all together. Still love it.
You are a total beast bud, your simplicity in your style is only rivaled by the finished product. Every time!
Man, I don't know what you make per hour or job but you are worth every penny. Excellent work.
Произведение искусства! 👍🏻
1:08 Damn, that's a hell of a good fit, given the "whack it with a hammer" shaping technique! :)
Im a c.n.c machinist and i am always amazed at how good you fabricaters are.To me this is next level
I have never been a fabricator. I was a machinist for a number of years and I have come to this conclusion. All of this CAD and Solid Modeling that has come along has dulled our edge a bit. working with tools and materials in real time teaches one to find solutions that would never occur to the CAD Pilot. As an example, the play dough thing is one I just recently saw for the first time. THAT my friend is a MASTER STROKE! I will surely add this to my tool box soon!
*THIS THING IS AMAZING! Thanks! :)*
Simply amazing! And I’m curious what you analytics say about viewership on the 18min video? I know we discussed
Me personally I use pattern development for fit ups like this, geometry and graph paper! I like to see different techniques and this impressed me!
Hats off to you pal 👏
In the past, you post a video about light metals and how to MIG You were correct and I appreciate it.
Damnit. That looks Stoooopid good.
I like the consumable mockup jig. Totally stealing that.
You could do one or more videos on metal finishing - products, techniques, etc. For those of us who can can use the bright-blue glue gun pretty well, but haven't learned how to make otherwise functional parts *beautiful* like that.

Outstanding! Just subscribed, I'm a welder fabricator with almost 2 decades of experience and I don't think I could make this, at least not that nice!! BEAUTIFUL work!
BRAVO ! Applause standing up + applause !!!!
You are an artist.
I'm guessing your metal work report at school never said "could do better"
👍
Not to be a smart ass but I think it am most impressed with the precision grinding and blending of the welds on the top oval. That isn't easy on aluminum and you make it look like it was all carved out of one piece when you were done.
When he was blending the welds I was like "no way, WHAAAAAAT" SO good.
Very True, over 30 years of welding I have seen many people dig into base metal with a grinder.
Amazing work! I could watch that kind of pro-work all the day long! Love it!
Truly a work of art. Your craftsmanship is second to none
god of welding ;)
That was so cool. I am gonna go eat dinner and dream of beautiful welds.
i love it how you show evything involved in the making. this clearly demonstrate that creaivity is the key to complex tasks. very informative
Your chops with the TIG are amazing.
13:20... Even the calculator has your logo in the screen. 😂
Well spotted
It's a shame you feel obliged to second guess all the potential boneheaded comments about how to do it better.
Your skills are outstanding and a pleasure to watch. I hope the armchair experts can appreciate how ingenuity trumps
modern techniques and life goes on without CAD and 3D ... if you are blessed with imagination. Well done Mate! Greetings from Australia
Great job. Work of the true professional. My respect man, you're awesome.
Love watching your thought process on how to do some things. Learn new stuff every video.
I learn so much from your vid's - one of the (sadly) secrets found on the interweb.
Little surprised you didn't just form up a 'cap' from the offcuts to weld in, rather than do the building up over the opening?
I flipped a coin.
6061. com did the coin land on "FUCK IT!", ?
Yeah I was expecting a bit of scrap metal to go in there. Instead we were treated to an awesome display of 3D printing!
6061. com watching you fill in the gap with welding material makes me feel Justified now for filling in gaps with a MIG welder. Thank you. Now I can show my brother how a professional does it as well.
a lot of people drawing up even a simplest thing before building, total waste of time, good job !!
This is next level stuff! Your welds on the inside of the tubing are better than most peoples, on the outside surface! Never seen such quality alloy welding. My bottom jaw is on the table! incredible fabrication skills! A ballet in logical and 'outside the square' thinking!
That's some talented work there.... I bought my TIG a few years back, still have trouble with aluminum. I can only dream about doing this well... Thanks for your video!!!!

Nothing but Pride in this mans work, and it shows and speaks for itself in the finished product.
All the good welders out there KEEP BURNING FOR LOVE N EARNING.
How long did that take start to finish?
Great question given how much of this video I watched at 1/2 speed or less.
Time is always a factor in building a part vs buying the same part, time spent building that Ypipe probably cost as much as buying 5 or more. But that said the aluminum one looks 100 times better.
That should have been included in the description, It would be interesting to know.
@@toothguy441 There are many situations where there is no option but to fabricate a custom part because there is no over the counter piece available.
