    Excellent as always, Clay. The black wash really adds to the depth and realism of the engine. Thanks!

    That engine build is super clean! Not to mention the decal placement as well.

    Absolutely amazing work Clay. Found a lot of answers to questions I’ve had for a while but never got them from other guys concerning 2k clear. Not missed a video yet.

    This is my favorite build . I watch it over and over . I was just curious why you applied clear coat first then applied the rest of the decals?

    I watch your videos every once in a while, to keep me motivated to building something great. But I gotta ask you, what’s the soundtrack? I like it, and for some reason it resonates in my head while I’m working on my models

      All the music I use is from Epidemic Sound. I just pick stuff that seems kinda laid back, and upbeat. So it is enjoyable, but not too distracting.

    Excellent video. I see your idea of mist coat is different than mine. I just did my first sanding after clear and burned through in one spot. I did not get enough clear on . Thanks for the vid.

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +1

      I probably put too much on. But like you said, burning through is a big problem if there isn't enough on there. I'd rather be safe and know I have enough on there to polish.

    I always enjoyed reading your articles, but it’s cool to be able to watch you work. Nice job. Do you only out down the two coats of clear, one thin, one thick?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks....it depends how things are spraying usually. If the clear is going down nice, I usually do two coats. But sometimes I will go back and thin the clear a little bit and shoot a third coat just to get it to lay down.

  • @zybrogue
    @zybrogue 3 роки тому

    I'm really enjoying this series. Question tho... Why don't you do all the decals before clearing a polishing the body?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +2

      I only wanted the red and yellow cleared. Not all the graphics. Clearing over the red shapes up front gave it a more consistent finish.

  • @wayneburgess6591
    @wayneburgess6591 3 роки тому

    Thanks Clay. Really enjoying this series. Gotta ask about that two part urethane gloss cote though. I have seen all these cautions about this stuff being super toxic, need respirators and full suits. Understand that may be the case for painting 1:1 cars. But I see you holding parts without gloves and spraying your hands with this. Are you comfortable with this ? Keep up the great work.

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +1

      You're absolutely right....I need to be better about wearing gloves. I do wear a respirator and have plenty of ventilation when spraying it.Thanks for watching.

    Awesome as I expected.! Couple questions: how long do you wait after clear to polish? Was the 5000 grit wet?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +1

      I wait 24 hours....at least. Ideally about a day and half seems to be the best time for me. But I get impatient. :) And yes, the 5000 pad was wet as well. Thanks for watching.

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +2

      I think I'm usually around 20-25 PSI. I go by feel more than anything.

    Awesome job! Quick question, how come you clear the body before applying all of the decals?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому

      On this one I wanted to clear over the red graphics so that part of the paint scheme would be consistent. Normally I clear over the paint, and decal over that. I don't clear over decals very often.

    Hi Clay, just wondering what your brand of air brush is? Thanks for sharing your build videos with us. I belong to the Scale Model Car Club here in Indy. Thanks for your time.

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому

      Hi Mike....this airbrush is a cheap one I got off of ebay. Something like $40? Called a Master I think. TCP Global sells them. So far no complaints other than the seals don't always hold and like to bulge out.

    Nice video -- A couple questions. When you are applying the roof number decal, it looks like you brushed on Micro Set (full strength ??) on the roof then laid the decal down. After that, I can't tell if you are using the paint brush with more Micro Set applied over the top of the decal ? Or just water on the paint brush as you smooth the wrinkles ?? Thanks !

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому

      I always put down a layer of the blue bottle first to help prevent silvering. All that liquid you see is Micro Set. I only use water if I have softened it too much and need to slow down the softening and smooth out some wrinkles.

  • @tonysouthern3049

    Clay, on your process of polishing. Every time I have polished before decaling I have a bad reaction with the polish ad setting solutions. Are you washing the body before decals?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  3 роки тому +1

      For sure....I usually use like Dawn dish soap, or a hand soap without any lotions in it. I give the body a good scrub with warm soapy water on an old toothbrush. Dry it off, then start decals.
