NASCAR MODEL TIPS: How to build a Joey Logano #22 Pennzoil Ford Fusion in 1/24 scale. Part #1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- This Nascar model project will be a multi-part series on building a Revell 1/24 Gen6 Ford Fusion kit replicating a Joey Logano 2018 Pennzoil Ford Fusion #22. In this first part we'll cover the basic kit contents and the aftermarket decals that will be used. As well as some chassis construction tips, painting, and body modifications.
A small disclaimer....yes I am a Scooby Doo fan. No it was not a modeling related injury. That would be compliments of my cat Bruce and his razor sharp murder mittens.....hope you enjoy the video. Clay

Just came across your channel... you do really great work. Can't wait to see more.
Thanks and welcome!
Wow, I’ve been building the Gen 6 chassis wrong all this time 🤦🏻♂️... looking forward to part 2 👍🏼
Dam I could watch you all day too, can't wait for next video. Rick 🤓✌️
Scooby dooby doo
Where are you?
We got some work to do now!
Clay, we need another build.
I love it when the fuel cell is seperate, you can actually paint it red without any masking
It was so much i had to do to this chassis it was crazy to make it look accurate. Cut the shock shafts off and drill them out so the shock shafts would go down in the cylinder, cut down the springs, front suspension had to be cut down, the body had have the lower front spoiler added on with sheet styrene. By sitting it lower you have to cut the top lip off of the carb to allow the hood to sit correct on the body. Cant see the carb top anyway. But it was a all around nice kit
Once again, just watching and learning 🇦🇺👍🏻
I just subbed, you have a very nice channel, I'll be watching your builds. Cheers
Thanks!
Man, I wish this and the Chase Elliott kit were widely available. Scouring them for a good price is like looking for a needle in a haystack, so I’ve settled with the older ones. Hope they can get a deal with Revell or somebody to make kits for the next-gen cars. Good build!
I think you'll see some Gen6 kits back on shelves soon in one form or another. ;)
Yeah man. Salvino's JR bought the rights to NASCAR models now. They go for a premium though, about $50/kit.
Looks like your off to a Great start!!! I'll be watching
Nice work.
Great videos Clay. What sanding sticks do you use?
I usually get them at my Hobby Town. They are right by the checkout register, so I always grab a few.
Man, this is the ABSOLUTE PERFECT vid for me right now, I'm literally starting this project myself. Question though, is this the same kit as the Danica Patrick Ford Fusion but with different decals?
The Harvick Jimmy Johns kit and the Danica kit were the same. Either one will work.
i could watch ya build all day...lol....any drag racing projects coming up? bahahaha...murder mittens!!
Thanks Daryl....yes. I've got an older Funny Car project in mind once I get through a few other things!
Very Interesting Sir, thanks for Sharing n God Bless All.
It’s great to see you on here, Clay. I miss your articles in SAE, and now that it’s merged, well, what’s the point? I was really pumped when you mentioned your old friend Dave, but then I realized that you and I don’t know each other, so I couldn’t be the Dave you meant. Looking forward to your next vid!
lol.....Dave Thibodeau....his channel is DT Model Art on youtube.
Looking good Clay!!! 👍👍👍
Looking great so far. Ron
Clay, I watched this old video right now and I already seen the final assembly yesterday. This video is excellent as well seeing how you started off on this model, long story short, this is a good subject matter but does any model companies out there make Joey LOGANOS Mustang he's racing right now?? I would really like a model of it!!
I think they only Mustang body that is available is in resin. Check with mikesdecals.com He may have some. Otherwise you'd have to covert a diecast. Thanks for watching!
Great job bud really envy your talent!!
It’s a clever idea to do this.
Love it! Look forward to your videos!
Yes my Buildin Bro! So. 2 questions Clay #1 when you were weging the Roll cage why were you using the panel scraper ??? And #2 do they not use Escape hatches any more? Build. On bro!
I don't think I used a scraper...that was probably my tweezers you saw maybe? I forgot to mention it in the video....the kit body is somewhat of a Super Speedway body, thus the roof hatch. I didn't want to make a SS model, so I filled it in.
the nascar master
Clay, have you ever done scaled confetti on a body after a win? I am curious if you have and if so/or not, what you would use to get scaled confetti and how you would glue it to the body.
That I have not tried. I know Henrik from Germany did that on one of his Nascar builds, but I can't remember how he achieved it. Sorry.
Nice build. Interesting choice for filler. How was that poly putty to use? I’m an old builder so I love the 50’s through 80’s, but like the newer stuff because it goes together so well. Will be following, thank you.
I like it so far. I am used to using Evercoat 2 part putty. But my cans would always get air in them and dry out and I'd waste most of it. This tube seems to keep it fresher.
Awesome
Where did you find these modern nascar models?
Wow that’s a lot of trees!! How do you know where to start?
Most start with the instructions....I just jump in. :)
Great job....
Nice video are you going to do a folded down widow net on this build ?
Yes...I plan to. Thanks for watching...
I assume you 2k clear your bodies as well? Curious which speciific omni clear you use and how you spray (Needle size, PSI, % reducer if any). I have some Matrix MS-30 speed clear that I can get to be decently glossy but still with some orange peel. Still have some things to try with it but I''m assuming things carry over from spraying other 2k clears.
I've tried lots of two part clears. But I've had the best luck with Omni. I believe it is a lower lever PPG clear. It is mixed 4:1. Although some times I will thin it just a little bit with Omni reducer as it gets older and thickens up. My friend Jay has great luck with Splash Paints 2 part clear. It comes as a set, you just mix it up and spray.
Love this....thank you...!!
Where does one find this "light chassis gray" lacquer? Is this shade applicable to all NASCAR chassis?
What I do is mix the gray myself. I bought a quart of white lacquer and a quart of black lacquer and mixed my own light gray up as needed and keep the extra in a bottle. That way I always have some ready and I add to it as needed. Gives me flexibility in how light or dark of a gray I need as well.
Why did you cover the opening on the roof. It is the "emergency exit" to pull out the drivers. I know it is very hard to see on images but there is an opening in that position.
What paint are you using for the Chassis Grey?
I mix my own with white basecoat lacquer and a little bit of black.
Airbrush? Primer? I'm on the hunt for a new one.
I've been using Tamiya gray and white primer lately. Straight from the can. Current airbrush is a $40 Master brand of some sort I got off ebay. Seems to work pretty good.
What kind of glue/cement is that and where did u get it?
Plastruct liquid glue. I get it at HobbyTown, or off of ebay.
Sorry to see Scooby make an appearance bro. I have a Pikachu on my right index from my Fujimi Enthusiast Countach . Damn thing bit me good.
Ill tempered feline got me.
@@ClayKemp Two legs or four?
@@NitroModelsAndComics a mean four legged one. We call him the "fastest left in the west"
@@ClayKemp I'll bet. Most of em are very fast indeed. Mine is like lightening.
I see a bandaid, guess that destroys my notion that you were a robot 😁
Mean cat....there was plenty of blood for proof!
I’ve always wanted to do this but it’s too hard to understand
Wouldn't it be cool to build models all day?
No dialogue... 🤔
But, my question is.... Why Joey Logano??? Sorry, but I just dislike the weasel!
lol Joey is usually good entertainment! Really I picked this version because I thought the colors would show up well in the video. And it had a lot of decals to apply. It should make for a cool model.
