As Will said, this segment is amazing advertising for criterion. The Paul Dano one is also really good. If only Blurays and DVD's weren't region locked, there's some just awesome picks in the collection that would be huge must buys for me. Desperately need their La Haine 20 year Bluray.
@@umey3445 unfortunately I don't have the money for another Blu-ray player, plus due to region lock restrictions, criterion only sells within the region that they have a content license in. I'm just a poor film student so any real collection will be years away for me.
@@dogedimmadome1895 Fair enough, I don't even own one just pirate what I can't stream. My friends here in Australia do the region-free blu ray player thing bc most movies don't get released for our region, even Disney isn't releasing physical copies here anymore
Yeah, not that Dafoe is being facetious but it’s usually a publicity thing probably staged by agents and publicists. Kinda like Guinness World Records. Pay-to-win system. Plenty of famous Hollywood stars don't have a star. Brad Pitt or Leonardo Dicaprio for example.
@@martinvraniskoski7379 From what I understand it's usually not the person themselves that buys it, I'm not even sure that's allowed. It's a studio or some other group that pays for it for you, in Dafoe's case it was Searchlight pictures who is pushing Dafoe and "Poor Things" for awards season.
His name is actually William only. Like Birth Certificate name. I think I recently heard on a podcast how he thought "Willem" just sounded cool, so he kept asking people to call him that. Fun little trivia that was.

Will Neff should list what his Criterion movies would be.
my grandma met Defoe when he was a young theatre actor, she told me he was the most beautiful, handsome man she ever met.

you can get a region-free player that takes any disc

I've only seen a few criterion closet videos but I can tell this is one of the good ones haha
Hahaha he was like "I'm in this movie!" It's like he's going "all the Christians fucking hate this movie but fuck y'all!" Haha
i love watching some of these and this has been my favourite one out of them all, i love this man
I love Willem so much, he’s a treasure
How hes barely being awarded with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame is absolutely ludicrous
they’re not awarded, they’re purchased. He could’ve had one decades ago if he bothered to buy it

gives blockbuster vibes.
i know will neff but i dont watch his stream didnt know he was into movies
big time, he went to college for it & hosts weekly film nights!
Clearly not very knowledgeable. Reacted with bewilderment to everything besides the del Toro movie.
when do we tell will his name is Willem not William?
His real name is William, changed it to Willem for SAG.
does Will Neff have letteboxd?
Willem Neff
