Brushing your teeth right after a meal helps me. It a physical demarcation exercise.

Great video. Evening eating is my downfall and while momentarily satisfying, causes me stress and disappointment in myself. My stopper, when I apply, is brush and floss my teeth and rinse with a minty mouthwash. After all that, I will not eat. Thanks for this nudge.

Have a shower. It is the place where you are safe from food and drink plus showering helps to wind down and relax before having an early night

So true about late night snacking becoming a habit - had not accepted how much it impacts weight control or lack of it - now 22lbs down after years of midnight snacking! Super video from Becky - as always.

Tea is my favorite “snack” if I get a sweet craving. Peppermint or Egyptian licorice tea are my favorite.

Tea has nvr worked for me but Mayb I'll try peppermint tea since she also recommended mint gum and someone has recommended brushing teeth. Ugh! I need something to help.

I struggle with this. It’s like my body is fighting the let down period of the where you get tired and want some energy in the form of food. And your more vulnerable cause your tired. Easier to make bad decisions.

Curving my appetite through day is so simple. But nighttime kills me!!!!!the mint gum is the only thing I haven't tried so here we go

gosh, I used to be addicted to chewing gum 😂in my experience, what ultimately freed me from nighttime eating was getting free from what was driving me to food in the first place. It was a deeper approach that got to the root of the problem instead of focusing on controlling my diet.

Thanks Dr Becky. Drinking enough water helps me also. Plus after my last meal I will eat a square or two of Camino baker chocolate. Yes, it’s bitter, but I have grown to really like the taste.

I must confess I love late night eating because it has a "party" feel to it. I am a "worker bee" type so nighttime is my first real relaxation time where I get to sit and enjoy food. I know it's something to remove from my routine...maybe I need to make lunch time my party? LOL

    • @4waystoyummy

@@JessiemGolden Yes, I am sure late night eating works for some folks, like my husband! But I will definitely start packing on weight if I snack at night and then go to bed on a full tummy. There's no worry I am not eating enough since I'm a person who enjoys food. At 62 yrs. I feel using IF and keeping myself empty for 12+ hrs each day is useful and easier than restricting my food choices. I like the 80/20 rule but as I get older perhaps I should lean more towards 90/10. One does get away with less and less....don't you think?

If you have a good dinner then feeling hungry late at night is a trick. That’s what I tell my self; this is a trick and it will go away shortly. Hang in there. Our body is trained to want late snacks/rewards. Once you know the tricks, you can use reason to over power them. Good luck.

Hi Dr.Becky I found your channel over a year ago. I had great success with keto. I was 60 pounds over weight, blood pressure through the roof and felt horrible. Keto was the answer for me and your videos and advice helped me so much. I lost the 60 pounds, lowered my BP and felt great. I had some things happen in my life and let it all go. I've gained 40 of those pounds back. I have decided to get back on track. I do great during the day but now there's a new phenomenon plaguing me. I get up at midnight or one o'clock in the morning and binge eat. What is going on? Why is this happening to me?

    • @Madronaxyz
      @Madronaxyz Рік тому +1

I think that she answers this question in the video. She recommends that 50% of your dinner calories come from fat.
I am preparing to start the fast 800 diet. Dr. Michael Mosley who wrote the book says it's very important to not have any of your high temptation foods in your.
For me that means no chocolate in the house, no crackers are other high-carb snacks. What's supposed to happen is that once my insulin system normalizes, I will be able to have that sort of food around without binge eating.

I'm reading between the lines of your thinking ... "now to apply it" .... to me this sounds like ... something I'll do later. Now, is a good time bc you may find yourself needing to begin again, and again, and again until you can adjust your body and your mind. If you haven't already tried this ... try a period of IF (fasting) time. Start one morning by not eating and see how long you can go (do it on your day off from work). For me exercise or work that is physical take the craving away. Good luck.

Overall good video. Nice background and foreground. Well covered info. and to the point. People will benefit from following this in a nutshell info. Though, weight loss has never been an issue for me. My focus is more on staying true to a healthy (KETO-LIKE DIET w/ IF) diet, maintaining proper calories intake, and keeping and/or gaining muscle tone/mass. Avoiding and aiding the pain people experience from many decades on earth.

I love your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge 💕 I’m struggling with this and the reason is because I work a long shift - I may go into work at 1 PM and not leave work until midnight. And on top of that I’m a Co manager of a very large grocery store. With that being said, if I eat dinner at 6 PM or 7 PM. I have five hours of work left to do and it’s impossible for me not to eat another thing until the next morning. I’m hungry when I get off work. And it isn’t a fake hungry like, oh drink some water and you’ll see the hunger will go away. It’s real hunger. Especially when I try to stick really close to a healthy diet such as eating a large salad for dinner. I am starving when I get off work. Not sure how to incorporate IF with this situation. Can you help me?

Hi Dr. Becky. I am 46 and gaining belly fat and around my butt and hips. I live in a country where if I ask my doctor about my problems he would just tell me it' normal. I want answers. What I want to know is that while I have always been active and mostly watch what I eat, I always read about estrogen dominance although estrogen levels drop. Then we are encouraged to eat estrogen rich foods. What do we eat. Should we be having dried fruits, flax etc. Are they good estrogens? Maybe it's not estrogen but low progesterone cause whatever I eat, even cruciferous veggies I cant resolve my weight gain. What's your opinion on flax. Thanks so much.

2:30 "Carbs also break down into glucose which spikes insulin" while this is true this is very misleading. Protein and fat also break down into glucose and protein also spikes insulin, just in a (usually) shallower way. The solution isn't more fat and less carbs, it's switching to wholefoods (complex carbs), adding fibre, eating carbs last etc and generally being more mindful of what you're eating and how. There's a reason the medical establishment has preached about less processed foods and more wholefoods for so long rather than just recommending higher fat or protein diets.

It only explains why one shouldn’t, which is readily available knowledge and common sense. If that was all it would take, nobody would late night snack or binge anymore.
