Glad that you are doing some more of Buddy Holly's music. He was one of the early pioneers of 1950's rock & roll. He wrote a lot of songs during his short life. "Maybe Baby", "Peggy Sue", "Bo Diddley", "Everyday", "Oh, Boy!", "Not Fade Away", "Rave On", "It's So Easy", "True Love Ways" etc. You won't find a bad song.
I don't think Paul or John could match Holly's output at the same age. Holly wasn't one to repeat himself, so what he would have done with another year or two (or ten) is impossible to imagine.

She asked to borrow his Buddy Holly albums and now I'm here with my brother's and sister. I have inherited the records and still have them today. A real musical genius. The catch in his voice was Buddy's trademark. Ahey, Ahey-hey. The simplicity of the production of this song, which was the B side of the hit, "Peggy Sue", was what helped it be the great song that it is. The clapping sound was his drummer, Jerry Allison, slapping his knees and the instrument played was called a Celesta played by Vi Ann Petty, the wife of his producer, Norman Petty.
In his day, at first the public thought that Buddy Holly and the Crickets was a black group. From what I understand, they were the first white talent to perform at the Apollo Theater.
My neighbor, Larry Welborn, played bass with Buddy at the beginning of his career, the “Buddy, Bob & Larry” trio they were called. Back in 1984, I was 10 years old and if you were to ask me who my favourite singer was, I would have answered Buddy Holly. He had a lot of fun songs and was a pioneer in rock n' roll.
Holly was a true artist and a craftsman with very high standards. He was always interested in new sounds, new techniques, new collaborations. He was driven, self-confident, optimistic, and a bit impatient.
He made such an enormous impact on the emerging rock 'n' roll genre in such a short period of time. He had a very strong, forceful personality, & we can only speculate on where rock would have gone, had he lived. A part of the music really did die that night. Thank you for the music, Buddy.
Buddy Holly, along with Little Richard and Chuck Berry helped to spearhead a movement where performers wrote their own songs - something virtually unheard of in popular music at that time.

Before Elvis, the Beatles.....there was Buddy. My late father saw him three times live, they were almost the exact same age. He saw Buddy at a diner, a roller rink, then an Elvis concert in the late 50s. He said that Buddy Holly blew away the Elvis show. I lived in Buddy's house in college, now it's a damned Walmart. I don't know if he would have fared well during the early 60's music, but he would have been a hero of the folk scene in the mid-late 60's, and certainly in the country music revival of the early 70's. I would pay my worth to see Buddy listen to some of today's music.
This is another great one. I have an album of his called by the name of his band. The "Chirping" Crickets. Rave On and Rock Around With Ollie Vee are two I'd suggest of theirs.

Gary Busey played Buddy and was nominated for an Academy Award for best actor. It's a fabulous movie loaded with Buddy Holly music.
Listen to Buddy's song, True Love Ways. Peggy Sue & Maybe Baby are a couple more in his massive repertoire. You'll enjoy them all! In a very short amount of time, Buddy Holly & his immense (& sorely missed) talent ensured himself a place at the very top of the rock-n-roll echelon.

I was a wee girl when Buddy Holly was killed in the plane crash. But my two sisters were teenagers and so I was familiar with all things they were interested in. I can tell you that there was a great sadness in our house after Buddy died. I can't think of a bad Buddy Holly song. I am partial to "True Love Ways" and "Not Fade Away". Thank you for the video.

One of my earliest memories at our farm, my parents had a phonograph setup, listening to the 45 of this (along with the other side "Peggy Sue", who we named our German shepherd after). We also had a mostly pain-in-the-butt chihuahua, who would run up to the speaker and start 'singing' as soon as she heard the beginning of the Connie Francis song "Where The Boys Are" (hint hint).
All these oldies have movies about there life patsy Cline, lorreta lynn Richly, buddy holly, Jerry lee lewis. Gives a great insight into how all these artist are inter twinned together.

All the greatest music came from the south or was heavily influenced by country and western, blues, jazz, r and b, folk, blue grass all from the south. Another song you will love from the same time would be Chantilly lace by The Big Bopper you will be hearing wigglein walk and gigglin talk long after the song is over.

As a Brit, I can't emphasize how huge Buddy Holly was in the UK. His songs are still regularly played. The young generation are well aware of him .

I think that "That'll Be The Day," is my favorite Buddy Holly song. A great showcase of his talent, and depth in the lyrics.

Buddy inspired every band from the 50s- 70s and 1 000s more. Paul McCartney said there would be no Beatles without Buddy Holly.
