From a young age, in the 80s, my mum loved old music (to me). I grew up with Buddy Holly whilst all the young kids were listening to New Kids on the Block. I didn't care.
He was a great lyricist, emulating the feel of the period he lived in. Especially from a young man's perspective of that time, hoping he will find love. So sad his life ended so tragically.

Glad that you are doing some more of Buddy Holly's music. He was one of the early pioneers of 1950's rock & roll. His style was influenced by gospel music, country music, and rhythm & blues acts. He wrote a lot of songs during his short life. "Maybe Baby", "Peggy Sue", "Bo Diddley", "Everyday", "Oh, Boy!", "Not Fade Away", "Rave On", "It's So Easy", "True Love Ways" etc. He was only 22 when he died in a plane crash along with Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper. This tragedy was later referred to by Don McLean as "The Day the Music Died" in his song "American Pie".

Some of the songs you quoted are not written by Buddy Holly: Rave on and Oh boy are written by Bill Tighman, Norman Petty and Sonny West., Peggy Sue is written by Norman Petty and Jerry Allison. And thanks to somebody else who is THE GOAT there was question of Buddy Holly and that's Elvis Presley of which Buddy Holly said by himself that without Elvis Presley there was no rock 'n roll.

Imagine how Rock Music would have changed had he not died along with Richie and The Big Bopper. As many have said Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on that plane and he never really got over it. Buddy's last comment to him was "I hope your damn bus freezes up again" and he joked back that "Well, I hope your ol' plane crashes." He lived with Guilt over that for a long time.

In 1958, Buddy sang this song on the Ed Sullivan show and sang Oh Boy. Sullivan found the lyrics offensive due to the “all my life, I’ve been a waiting. Tonight there’ll be no hesitating.” Sullivan felt this line was scandalous and had Buddy’s amp turned off. Buddy played harder. He would never agree to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show again.
The performance is available on you tube. You can see the anger on Buddy’s face as he plays like a man possessed.
In Buddy’s own words, he would “not fade away.”

@@johnstrong4089 "Before Elvis, there was nothing." John Lennon.
In Texas of 1955 Elvis immediately influenced Jimi Hendrix, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly in one fell swoop. They all saw him in concert and their musical lives were forever changed.

Downside of 1950s rock n roll - 45 discs were about 1min 56sec in length. Upside - you could play 30 in an hour!

Super sad story. (Correct me if I’m wrong) He passed away on the flight and had only been married 6 months or so, his wife was pregnant and found out via tv or radio and later had a miscarriage.

Awesome. Glad you’re reacting to Buddy Holly. Check out some of Waylon Jennings songs. Waylons One of the greatest ever. So many want to talk about Johnny Cash, who is great too, and his romance with June. However I believe Waylons story is just as good including his romance with Jesse Colter. When you watch them together, Waylon just oozes the love out when he looks at Jesse singing or just talking. Fun fact, Johnny Cash and Waylon were roommates in their early years. And Waylon played in Buddy Holly’s band (Crickets) Waylon was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy Holly (when it crashed) but he gave his seat up to the Big Bopper because he was sick. Buddy Holly made a joke to Waylon about enjoying the bus ride with no heat, and Waylon replied back jokingly - I hope your plane crashes. Which obviously he didn’t mean, but Waylon said he regretted it and it has bothered him all of his life. Waylon named one of his sons after Buddy. Also Waylon was the first one to challenge the record company when it came to freedom in his music. He paved the way for so many after him. I wish they’d make a movie of his life, as they did with Johnny Cash, while Jesse and his children are is still around to advise on it. Waylon passed away in 2002 from complications of Diabetes and I cried for a week. Waylon is truly a legend. Waylon doesn’t get the respect over all that he deserves. Check out some of his music.

Great reaction, but unfortunately that picture you're showing isn't of Buddy. It's a Buddy Holly impersonator called John Mueller.
