It definitely gives the people you've described hope that they, too, could appear every bit as glamorous as Carol and Steve did in this sketch (the dream part, least ways) with the right outfit, hair style, and so forth.
A recent T.V. bio of Burnett suggested that she always shied away from singing straight torch - that her reticence about being a "serious singer" caused her to always situate such songs within an ironic context. But therein lies the brilliance. Who else could achieve such longing, such an ache, and the metaphysical resignation that dreams are always (and must be?) just beyond reach? Far from avoiding the deeper meaning of songs, she illuminated them & found through humor the savor of tragedy.
I love Steve Lawrence and Carol Burnett on her show. I know they were good friends but Carol always seemed to warm up to Steve. I always wondered what Eydie thought.
how wonderful.. a nice romantic skit. I love Steve Lawrence, what a voice, they sounds wonderful together....this was special, thanks for posting
Delicate and simply precious. Yes, Carol. You were, are, and always will be beautiful. Oh, to be Buddy in this parallel dimension.
Spoof it may be but it still makes any geeks, bookworms, and schlubs tear up.
What a knock out Burnett is. Oh, and the gown looked great too.

Wonderful
That's adorable 🥰
Song is from Stephen Sondheim's "Follies"
Good classic one.
always makes me cry..
Crazy ....but Carol never thought of herself as attractive, even after she made it big. Hard to believe, but true....
❤️😭
This is a spoof of a couple movies...one being The Enchanted Cottage. I cant place the other one right now.
Um, why are glasses always used to imply unattractiveness?
Weird blocking
