  • Hello all and thank you for watching FunAhead TV!
In this video, we continue to dive even further into the transmission of my 996 Porsche Carrera 4. If you missed the previous videos, I’m in the process of rebuilding 2nd gear, and it’s respective synchros, due to an occasional grinding into gear; a common issue with these transmissions when they get higher mileage and age.
By the end of this video, we reach the halfway point of the project by getting all of the gear sets removed that need to come out in order to complete this job… a huge, and critical stage of the process.
Thank you for watching, and please drop a comment below if there is anything you’d like me to clarify on further. I always do my best to respond in a timely manner!!
    Thanks, again, for watching!
    David

Awesome videos man! I'm currently in the process of taking mine apart. Do you know which gear puller that is?

Thank you! It’s one I got from Harbor Freight. Comes with multiple arm lengths, which I cobbled together to get the extra length 😂

Great work, and awesome documentation! I’m getting ready to do the same job, as my 2nd gear went kaput yesterday. What gear puller did you use?

Thanks Cole! I just used the Harbor Freight gear puller kit; nothing fancy. I threw some heavy duty grease on the threads before brapping on it with the impact and it held up pretty well.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions along the way! As you’re probably finding, not much documentation out there about how to do this job.

You are a very brave man. I love my car but I will NEVER pull my gearbox apart. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Keith! What kind of car do you have? Nahh, I think anybody can do this, which is why I’m doing my best to make these videos about how it’s done… too little info out there plus the Porsche name make it intimidating.

Thanks Dev! Indeed, feels good to be making progress too. Parts arrive Thursday of this week, so hopefully it’ll start going back together soon!
