    Looks like a great lens Robert. Congratulations on capturing a shot of one of the Blue Morpho butterflies - they never seem to stop moving, I found it impossible when I did my butterfly video. The shot at 7:46 of the pair in an almost mirror image - brilliant.

      Cheers Andrew. Yeah, they're a challenge. The best place seemed to be where they were eating the fruit. I did get a decent one with both wings opened up, but it was just on the concrete floor, so not great. Great to have these places nearby, much easier than going out and shooting in the wild! Thanks for watching. 😊

    excellent video Robert as someone who is an avid macro fan (I have the sigma 150mm macro) this was right up my alley thanks for sharing.

      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      Oh nice, I haven't tried the 150mm but I can imagine it's especially useful for insects. I believe there's also a 180mm but with a slightly narrower max aperture. Thanks for watching. 😊

    I bought this lens a couple of weeks ago and its a great lens. I have a D810 and a D300. Will be taking plenty of macro photos where I live in North Queensland. Great video too.

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      Great, do you find any performance difference between the two bodies and this lens?

    • @rb6725
      @rb6725 Рік тому +1

      @@Robert-Bishop Well it’s easier using the D810 in crop mode with 15MP compared to the D300 12MP. But using the D300 gives you more of an impression that you have a higher focal length lens, rather than the D810 superimposed lines in the viewfinder.
      Actually my much older D300 which I bought used from eBay is in mint condition with under 1000 shutter count but my Newer D810 is a well used unit that I am renting. So the D300 feels much nicer to use.
      The D810 has better resolution (of course) but also better processing power for dynamic range and colour too because it’s newer.

    I use this lens on my D750, and i fully agree it`s sharp, fast and a great value for the price!
    And thank you for these exellent pictures off the butterflys.

    I've been looking for a macro lens so this video is perfect timing.
    Fantastic video as always Robert and great to see it being used on the D500. You've also used a Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro lens too, which would you say is the better performer out the two?

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      Definitely the Sigma, Max. The Tokina is great for the price, but does suffer from more significant aberration issues than the Sigma. Thanks for watching. 😊

    Great video Robert! Dripping with sweat 😂 Now you know exactly what living in Florida is like, every day! Looks like an awesome place to visit with lots of subjects for some macro. I've never done much macro photography at all but I am a big fan of Sigma lenses in general. I have the 24-70 ART and it is probably my most used lens, love everything about it. And if my other Sony lenses ever break down on me, I would definitely go with Sigma for their sensible pricing and quality. Loads of great images in this, loved that black moth (?) shot! Great stuff as always pal. Hope you are doing well over there!

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      I think I'd struggle with that kind of humidity on a daily basis - do you get any interesting butterflies in the wild over there in Florida? I've been trying to find the name of the black one but haven't had much luck so far. Agreed on Sigma lenses, I've been really pleased with all the ones I've used so far. Thanks a lot for watching Paul. 😊

      @@Robert-Bishop I've never seen many in the wild here, but I'm sure they are there somewhere. The adjoining town to where I live is called Coconut Creek and they call themselves the Butterfly Capital of the World so maybe that is where they all are 😂

    I have a Nikon Z7 and I purchased the same sigma macro lens. I’m very new and am struggling to use this lens. I have the FTZII, but aside from that are you mentioning in the video another adapter? I believe you mention it in the beginning when speaking of the Lens hood. Thanks!

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому

      Yes, there is an adaptor for the lens hood that allows it to be used with crop sensor cameras. The hood basically comes in two parts, you use one part for full frame cameras and both parts for crop sensor. Thanks for watching. 😊

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      Haha, think I surprised myself when I got to the end, when I couldn't think of a downside! Perhaps having to use the hood adaptor for crop sensor cameras is a minor inconvenience, but that's about it! Thanks for watching mate. 😊

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! I was shooting in aperture priority mode with manual ISO. I usually set my aperture and then adjust my ISO to get the shutter speed I want. 😊

    • @Yosser70
      @Yosser70 Рік тому

      @@Robert-BishopIf your camera supports it, a better way to do it would be to go manual and use auto ISO. Same outcome without have it change any settings yourself.

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      @@Yosser70 Yeah, that's another way - gives the advantage that you only have to use the dials and don't need to press the ISO button. I've just gotten used to this way now.

    That extended lens hood looks really cumbersome - how necessary was it shooting inside the butterfly house?

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому

      Probably not very necessary in regards to light, but I always use the lens hoods for protection of the front element.

      @@Robert-Bishop 🙂I have an UV filter permanently attached to my 18-300 (which, in turn, seems to be permanently attached to my camera) for the same reason! And a lens hood most of the time. Mind you, my lens hood, which didn’t come with the lens, is much smaller, which makes me wonder if it’s actually doing anything on my DX!

    Nice shots throughout mate. Can't argue with what Sigma do, decent lenses at decent pricing. Unfortunately I have been bitten in the past by their inconsistency with Canon mounts, but that's down to Canon withholding proprietary rights and changing algorithms on newer releases ('cos they want all the money for themselves!) rather than faults from Sigma. Looks a very decent lens.

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  Рік тому +1

      That's annoying Dave. I am a bit disappointed that there aren't many third party lenses for the Z system yet. Although Nikon are starting to do the rebadged lenses now which is a step in the right direction. It is nice that you can get the dock for Sigma lenses too, and then you can find tune them. Thanks for watching mate. 😊

      It was quite a while ago, so I don't remember the exact circumstances. It will either be because I thought that was the best option for the result I wanted, or because I didn't have enough time to change settings before I took the shot. I may have also stacked multiple shots to get the depth of field I wanted. Thanks for watching. 😊
