As someone who's using these shop knives for many, many years - I agree with you on every word. The design however, is not right - amigo. Looks great, but...
For years I was making a living building maquette models. Using these knives for cutting various materials from Cardboard to Aluminum sheets. Now I'm mainly using these for woodworking as my main shop knife. Sometime as a scraper (The back side), I cut veneers and melamine with it, sometimes even a 1/4" ply, I often use it as a marking knife and a scoring knife before sawing by hand. I also use it to do glue cleanup and remove surface rust.
Below, my respectful suggestions:
- Sometime I apply quite a bit of pressure and have a very firm grip on the knife body - these sharp machined corners should be at least 1/8" round-over, with knurling. Mainly the narrow sides.
- The beak design of the Olfa style knives is meaningful. It's the main reason I stick with Olfa over the years, because they seem to have the most tight and sturdy beak. It's thin and grips the blade at a low tolerance so it tracks well and won't wiggle while cutting.
- The narrow design also allows to sight down the line and not hiding the cutline mark. Your design has the body too thick at the edge. With your design to achieve this you'd need to extend the blade hence losing the tracking control that a narrow tight beak design provides.
- The thickness of the beak at the point the blade protrudes is also important for efficient snap action when breaking off the blunt bits.
- The screw design, with optional positive stops is also preferable to your design, that seem to have only positive stops. When using an Olfa with a screw tightening, I often use an in between position.

Well, thats one persons preferred style. There's only about a few billion more.
Toughbuilt has a knife like this (replaceable breakable blade), theirs is shaped more like a regular utility knife so its more ergonomic for the hand. It also has a retractable spine/blade guard so you can have the blade out real far, but also put the spine out so it only has a tip of cutting edge, but also makes the blade far less flexible, which would help with the tracking issue you speak of. I think uncle bumblefuck's design is brilliant. Having the retractable spine/blade guard would be perfect, but much harder and more expensive to make in such a sleek design.

Missing half my thumb print from a razor like that, i can say with 100% accuracy that they are indeed very sharp.
Gave myself limited mobility in my left middle finger with one, hurt like a damn but I was impressed with how clean the cut was
@@okk7306must not have been all that sharp if it hurt that bad. The sharper the blade, the cleaner the cut, the less it hurts. A more dull blade hurts less. Doing roofing for many years, automotive for even more years, barber for quite a few years, tinker all my life, ive had thousands of cuts by razors, the worst ones were always the ones i barely felt because the blades were so sharp. The most painful werent as bad because i could feel it and had more time to react since it was more dull. One of the worse was from a brand new hook blade right on one of the joints of my pinky. Got it so good could see the fat tissue. Worst ever, my brother cutting my arm with a miter saw. We were kids, i was a bastard, hes much bigger than me, grabbed my arm pulled it under the saw, pulled the blade down. Not realizing you cant see the teeth because it spins too fast, tried to get close enough to scare me, got too close. Oh yea, you could see a buncha meat on the edges of that cut, about 4" long, 1-1 1/2" wide right in the crease/inner elbow. 6 stitches inside just to pull the cut close enough to put the other 19 stitches outside to close it up. The needle with the novicaine for the stitches hurt more than the saw. 95% of the ppl i tell about it say, damn that musta hurt like hell. Nope, didnt feel a thing because its sucha sharp blade/clean cut. I got lucky on that one. Didnt hit anything but meat so never effected my arm more than a cool scar.

In honour of my dad, a production welder on farm equipment, who embodied function over form, I grabbed the blue light special - electric glue.
(The skin cancer on his face - mild, not what took him home - was apparently _not_ from years of welding without a mask, but from his younger years growing up on the farm - so said the experts at Workers Comp).
And judging from the scars on my hands from the many unsheathed box cutter blades scattered around my bench, that blade wielder might benefit from a bit of knurling on the edges to slow my hand down a bit before it inevitably slides along the blade as I'm trying to stab something much to hard for a box cutter....
yeah, somewhat concerned about the edges snagging on my pocket liners. I fully embrace the replaceable blade philosophy, although i use trapezoid blades in the will-fuck-ye tool that also has the handy screwdriver tip on the other side.
Let’s take a great product and make it pointlessly expensive, difficult to produce and uncomfortable for no other reason than ego. The beauty is in the perfect execution of the function.

I have an OLFA knife, best investment I ever made when I was working at a hardware store, I used to burn through cheap box cutters every few days I was cutting though so much cardboard, plastic wrap and rope. 25mm blades are so much better.

Uncle B, if you're reading this... If the Town Pump has a small enough bit where you can engrave demarcations _(deliniations?)_ along the back and front edges, then you'd be putting a small measuring device in our hands, too!

They don't even have to be numbered.
1/8in, 1/4in and 1in marks for Imperial, down the length (so 5in or 6in total).
And then whatever would be ideal for the Metrique folks! (sorry, dumb American here 😅)

also, not sure if you have tried them before, but take a look at LutzBlades "multisharp", i dont know any shops in Germany where you can get them except directly from Hoffmann-Group, i have been using them at work for past tow years and am very happy with sharpness and longevity of the blades

One of the beauties of the ugly ass yellow knifes, is that they're slightly round. They can be picked up anytime anywhere and with gloves on. They stand off a flat surface and especially when you're in the shit of it trying to cut something they're so easy to grasp.

Looks cool - I'm not even a knife guy, but as soon as I saw the philips head screws I knew I would have chosen torx if I was doing it. I hate the way, even being careful, that philips head screws tend to deform over time. Also for anyone using it regularly, the square edges that load against your hand when giving it the inevitable hot supper will have people going back to the uglier but more comfortable designs - maybe adding a clear silicone cover 🙂. It would also stop all manner of gunk getting stuck in all the speed holes on the sides.

Hi @AvE! I've been a long time fan and have a suggestion:
Instead of letting people buy stickers, only for them to buy tools later. (2 times buying, meh fair)
Why don't you do it kickstarter style with pre-orders. So you make your prototype, explain it in a video and sell them as preorders with a delivery date maybe a year later.
That way people are more excited and you are getting not just sticker money but tool money.
