Much as this type of ghastly vandalism is to be abhorred, many would argue that the touristic exhibition of corpses is equally irreverent and ghoulishly inapt. Think on it, this is the resting place of earthly remains. The Catholic church places more emphasis on 'sacred places' and the concept of localised holiness than some other denominations. One might then assume that the lurid exhibition of earthly remains for tourists and funding would be deemed ... well, distasteful and unholy? Today in many European countries, it is no longer considered ethical to expose Egyptian mummies to the public gaze for example. The perpetrator here will be castigated for desecrating tombs. But is this prurient sideshow exhibition not equally tasteless and profane? Think about it. Not long ago, an Anglican cathedral in England held a gamers' conference in a cathedral with many skulls in their crypt because it 'fitted with the mediaeval ambience' of the fantasy game. There's not a lot to choose between a pyromaniac and a ghoul is there?
The vandalism of historically significant artifacts and "the touristic exhibition of corpses" is most definitely not "equally irreverent"...and there is a world of a difference between "a pyromaniac and a ghoul"!! Some may see such exhibitions as a form of grubby commercialism, disrespecting what should be seen as sacred, but that is not the same thing as the destruction of those exhibits. "The perpetrator here will be castigated for desecrating tombs"...no he won't, people are more outraged by the ACTUAL destruction of significant cultural and historical artifacts, indeed the whole church could have been burnt down. But perhaps you live in a woke world where you can no longer distinguish between words and a punch in the face.
@@Finnegas-Eces You ignore that the thrust of the speakers here is that these are priceless items of cultural or archaeological significance. Are they? Are they really? You're talking about a church here, not a scientific institute. It might be argued that the Church has betrayed its own idea of sanctity and the sanctity of the deceased by this carry-on.
No Catholic tradition was laying bodies in crypts and visitors could come and pray for the dead, also pieces of the persons cloths or bone would be used as blessed relics if the person had been a very holy exampelry person a Saint.
There is a balance to be struck between leaving the past buried and vapid exhibitionism. Exhibiting the past allows us to connect with it and physical artifacts/remains drive interest in the field. The priest in the video said that tourism in the parish allows the church to exist, thus leaving a place for the mummies to rest. Destroying the artifacts has placed all future conservation efforts in jeopardy, but simply locking them away forever would have a similar effect.
@@Morningstar-xz5bl Prayer for the dead, properly understood, should involve prayer for YESTERDAY, i.e. prayer to effect spiritual redemption in the Eternal Now for their lives. Not 2D misrepresentations of 3D realities. But anyhow, these are not relics.

Mediaeval mummies experience cultural enrichment.
People have no respect anymore
its called Religious war but only one side knows they are fighting it
It makes me very sad when people for their own views decide to desecrate or destroy historical sites. Looking back at the post and artist may have had a violent and unpleasant past look at the sculpture in front of the BBC building in London with a statue sculpted by Gill You can’t go back and rewrite history with the views of today it’s bonkers. These people see themselves as superior beings Don’t forget fires for political reasons like Setting on fire of the German parliament before the Second World War played part in Hitler and the Nazis coming to power
War has been declared on the blood the blood be the truth that flows the Genesis
how to say something without saying something.. well done.
-still the reason of 'why'... and his silence in court so far, as well as affiliations of the accused aren't turning up..
Hmmm wonder who did it? The newcommers?
Ask him who paid him to set fire to this church ask him
I can't believe the Irish would let this happen, how far the mighty have fallen, you're heritage is under attack so what are you gonna do about it, nothing it seems 😮😢..
I’ve been blocked for 24 hours at a time. So I put everything over on the other platform.
Politics on YT is silencing us!
The custodianship of this should be taken away from the COI.
The reality is back then these crusaders were fighting off Arab conquests of Europe when Spain was under control of Islam !
Islam??
I have to visit some of my relatives were C of I ...
They’re the tares. The same enemy of the Crusades.
Using those who have passed as a peep show for cash
Little wonder God allowed it to burn
May they finally rest in peace
Remember friend, as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so you will surely be
Prepare yourself to follow me.
(Memento Mori)
OK, this was not what I was thinking. I thought this might have something to do with M extremist or something like that. The thumbnail was clickbaity in that I thought an historical church had been burned to the ground or something. Anyway, this was not what I was thinking.
So they know who did this and are not saying in case it causes riots
Probably a wild mopedo.
He’s a convicted arsonist . From Romania .. caused £300,000 fire damage in Belfast. His name is Topiter… google arson Belfast Topiter…they are hiding it in media , but it’s there

Sorry, No video. UA-cam must have cut the feed to Americans. You get a 👎, complain it to UA-cam!
Spiritual War for sure.
7:55 keep not giving a shit!
While the event is very sad for sure, why isn’t it macabre to a culture for its Church to make its money by showing tourists the bodies of their dead?
