Ancient warfare 2 is the best mod for this, combine with millenaire for non-hostile civilizations too. Basically AW2 is a mod for 1.12.2 (old I know) that makes many factions with bases in the world and adds many new weapons and armors. But that isn't all, it allows you to make your own civilization and have varried kinds of soldiers that listen to you. There is siege equipment so late game you can have your engineers set up trebuchets to bombard a castle while the enemy ballistae shoot at you. Millenaire is a 1.12.2 mod that adds peaceful civilizations like the byzantines or turks to your game. The villages are a bit weary of you but will trust you as you help out and will naturally expand over time. You can either help them, or raid them but they are decently strong, and you can also trade with them. Only issues are that the two mods have their own currency systems, so you need to watch what money you bring for what structure, and that its a pretty slow grind if you look up Ancient Warfare 2 on youtube. An AW2 trader takes Owls (a type of coin) but a Millenaire trader takes something else (I forgot what its called). To this day its my favorite minecraft combo, the slow grind from being a solo adventurer looting armor and weapons from foes to becoming a conquerer burning castles and towns is awesome. This is perfect combination with it takes a pillage mod. I can lead an army of villagers to invade a castle of illagers. What's interesting is in pillager castles they have prison cells with golems and villagers so that's a bonus, they fight to free their kind. This is gonna be so cool. I can use a horn and charge into battle. No more solo battling castles or other pillager bases. I got an army for full on war!!

The mod is great. The problem I find with this mod is the tremendous amount of pillagers out there now. Now they can spawn anywhere and are much stronger. I don't know if that can be changed.

There’s one thing that I think would complete this mod; a function for getting the villager soldiers to march in column formations, where they effectively move as one until you order them to disperse.
Dumb but important questions: - Do soldiers automatically defend the villages they're in, similar to golems, or does a player have to hire them first? Ie attacking hostile mobs, and players that have low reputation? - Will farmer villagers automatically give food to their village's warriors the same way they will other villagers?

I hope you add the feature wherein we can change the face of the villager, because it fits well with Epic Knights': Shields, Armor and weapons but their top head would glitch out and poke out of the armor sets given to them esp some of the armors, also their little squid ward noses.

does anyone know how to get that amount of pillagers to naturally spawn at the pillager outposts with this mod? ive only seen a small fraction of pillagers spawn even when i change the difficulty of the game and i have been unable to find any commands to help.
Imagine your a villager. Chilling in your village when all of a suddenly a raid is conducted by a player and your village is getting horse raid tactic.
Really like this mod but I think I've been using this mod wrong. Mobs, even pillagers, seem to completely ignore the recruits if I'm anywhere nearby. Even if a zombie is pummeled 3 or 4 times they still might not switch agro to the recruit.
I have been thinkig anything like this for years but i dont know how to make mods. This commands plus epic figth combat, and a musket and canyon mod for villagers. May be a good chance to start a quest of war against illagers. Illagers with their army, destructor and evokers. Viklagers with iron golems, shields and gunpowder. Combines with small ships that already have cannons, mechanics that increaes damage to the attacks from above like mountains, towers, walls and forstres. This logic applies from arrows and proyectiles and any attack from a horse or hill, would make geography estrategical. A mod that creates logics of logistic and camping with you army and have to transport materials to build a camp, defend it and dominate the terrain. Plus varians and resources of weapons, armors and tecnology base on the biomes would be awesome. I will give you a chance to make your own empire, control land and mobilize your units

You can change the skin of the recruits in the config file
Similar to guard villagers but this is better
I know, but the advantage of guard villagers i think is the skin and the head-shape
Head shape is disadvantage. Why ? Because they cant use helmets from other mods correctly and it's looks strange, when they are wearing them.

The boats are from the mod small ships :) You can order them to mount them like you order your soldiers to mount a horse for example.

Its already planned on the next update of mod, developer will ad basic Box, Triangle and half moon and many more basic formations, mos is still w.i.p.

You can promote a recruit to a commander (once the recruit is level 5) and have them designate recruits to patrol certain coordinates

Custom npc: easier to manage. Only for medium or low end device

My soldiers are not mounting horses, when i order them to mount the disperse and do nothing.
Try to get closer, because the game might not recognize that you are targeting the horse.
