  • Please subscribe for more! Today in this video we are trying a new setup of 2 stroke motor on a bicycle to see how fast we can go. This new engine is called the Frankenstein 87cc with the MS460 cylinder. This is basically a combination of a china doll and a chainsaw cylinder. The Phantom 85 is a copy of the original Frankenstein motor built by Ken Hinson a professional engine builder. Please look at the links below for all the parts used in this build:

    I love the idea of these simple engines because it takes us back to when people knew how to work on their own machines. Heck, I just bought one just because.

    I did some research, and the cylinder on the frankenstein is where all the power comes from. Its a Nikasil coated STIHL chainsaw cylinder and piston. At least that's what the original Frankenstein from Zeda Motorsports was. You can get 10 horsepower stock just by bolting one of those babies on with a good carb and pipe. They're rev out to like 14000 RPM!! That's why Stihl chainsaws are the best.

    • @chrisnano1266
      @chrisnano1266 2 роки тому +3

      Stihl is German engineered

    • @dmoore0079
      @dmoore0079 2 роки тому +7

      The Stihl chainsaw cylinders have a couple of benefits - 1) much larger bores available than what you can get with the Chinese bicycle motors and 2) Much better port design and timing - especially the transfers, which provide much higher fuel velocity into the cylinder. This provides a lot more all around power than the bike engine cylinders. I'm currently working on putting together a Stihl 044 hybrid (only 50mm bore, but the piston uses a 10mm wrist pin which is a drop in fit for our pistons). With that cylinder and a case reed setup, I should be able to come out somewhere around 6-7hp.

    They need to make a good expansion chamber exhaust for the phantom 85! I already got the G2 reed valve so I could install a 22mm pwk carburetor. I've actually heard of people drilling holes in the bottom of the stock exhaust but I can't imagine it sounding good or give you the power of a good expansion chamber and awesome looking bike!

My personal yd100 piston port hit 47 just some port work with 32t sprocket. My personal yd100 dio Reed hits 45 easy with 44t sprocket. When you say two finger ports, Do you mean two finger ports on the side of the piston on the exhaust side? Can you explain a little more for me? I’m currently contemplating buying a ms440 cylinder an piston for my phantom 85 bottom end an running it without a reed an using a vm24 carb. I’m just wondering what exactly I need to do with my piston when it comes to a windowing it. I can’t just leave it sealed without porting it out correct? Basically can you give me a run down if exactly what I need to do to bolt on a stihl 440 to my phantom 85 bottom end. I plan on using a kx85 pipe also I’ll cut an re weld to work.

    I don't think people care about top speed that much because you really don't need it. What is more important is take off torque and powerful reliable quick take offs from lights, stop signs and moving across intersections quickly and then reaching a reasonable cruising speed of 20 to 30 mph with some torque left over. It is fun though to find out your motors top speed although you may never use it daily.

      It all comes down to oil quality, mixture and how hard you ride. If you try to always shoot for the max then it might not last as long. This engine sounds relaxed at 35-40mph.

    Id try the HDA 43 carb. Its a pumper carb that aerates fuel much better. Its a different setup, but ive found they are way easier to tune. I tried a lesser hda223 carb on a cheap flying horse engine that i ported, with stock gears, no reed, and stock but modified exhaust, and got 36mph. “Which is not alot, but was mostly stock”…But it vibrated like crazy as its a crap engine. “At the time i wasnt knowledgeable on what bike engines were best”. I have a video of it on my page. By the looks of it, the carb on these bikes have a a very long travel. Especially the reeded ones. Not sure but looks like its overkill when it can be simpler, more direct, and way more tunable.

    interesting as most comments are apparently from experts in this field who all seem to know exactly what others need to do to their bikes, and they should know as no matter what the video is on, they have the same bike/engine/pipe except theirs goes about 1000 times faster, they got it for 1/100 of the going price you paid, and without riding your bike, kow exactly what jet, cyclinder, carb, sprocket you should be using instead of what you are. Anyone with common sense needs a Scott Air Pak self contained breathing apparatus to avoid being overcome by all the bullshit around here. I bet most are in their parents basement and don't even own a bicycle or if they do, can't ride it casue they are grounded....lol

      Lol! Could not have said it better myself. Racerbois squealing and frothing with expert rage. And most of them could not file a set of points to save their lives.

    So you were riding a bicycle at 53 mph, with lace up shoes / short pants / a thin short sleeve shirt / no gloves, and as for a helmet well who can say.......Where I'm from...... we call that a "Bell/End" on a bike.
    Although this term would usually be of a motorcyclist.....but a bicycle with a motor, close enough..

      🙄 upon hearing this the builder immediately removed the Springer front end and put on some forks from his daughters Holly hobbie 20 inch complete with a flower covered basket. Now he goes 70mph without any worries. 😆

    That small of a motor will never run good at low rpm or idle with reeds .
