Winifred Atwell

Winifred Atwell was very well- known ragtime pianist in Britain in the 1950s and 60s. She was the first black recording artiste to have a number one hit in the British charts and the first British artiste to sell in excess of three million records. She had eleven Top Ten hits and was ultimately given special dispensation by the Australian authorities to emigrate there, where sadly she died in 1983.
