I had the cranberries on my dehydrator as they were done i was looking making praline pecans. I got the idea to add a handful of freshly DH cranberries to the mix---oh my stars it was a step up. Thanks Marcie.
I've never canned, dehydrated, or freeze dried cranberries. I think this is the year to go crancrazy. I was looking for a video on how to make my own cranberry juice & came across your video. Of course I had to stop & watch. Now I'm adding dehydrated & sweetened craisins to my do to list. I detest raisins but I love craisins on a chef's salad or in quick breads. Thank you for the always excellent presentation on the process.
I added some finely diced ginger and maple to my first batch. They were a bit spicy, but super good and addictive. I like the idea of using orange juice or orange zest as well. Yes, great gift idea. 😊
September 4 I ordered my COSORI Food Dehydrator. Today I have almost two shelves full in my pantry of dehydrated veggies. Thank you for inspiring me ! Its amazing how much food American's waste and believe food will always be readily available. I have come to appreciate every item in my fridge and plan how to dehydrate it. Ive created mixtures of items. Thank you also for your safety tips to avoid mold. I love how they look in the glass jars vacuum sealed! Now im going to tackle cranberries and apples! And, Girl, I have so many peppers its zany - ALL kinds of peppers!
You have made my day. You are a great teacher. Thank you so much for your tutorials. I’ve always wanted to use a food hydrator to save my favorite foods.❤️
I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND YOUR CHANNEL!!! I bought my first dehydrator about a week ago and love it. It's a simple one with just an on/off switch and no temp control but I'm a newbie so it is fine. Made jerky quite successfully and so I tried to dehydrate some cranberries. Thought it would be simple enough and just tossed them on the tray and let it go. A few hours later and I knew I was doing something wrong so I came to the ol' trusty UA-cam and found this video. A life saver, lol. I have now blanched the cranberries and they are doing wonderfully now. I have subscribed and going through your vids for more knowledge.
I poke them with kenzan. It's very difficult to find unsweetened, unsulfured cranberries with no oil on them, so I always dehydrate them myself. They are so good in a healthy salad! 😋🥗
Too much work piercing all the intact ones. I spent 3 days trying to dehydrate them. Small hand picked bush cranberries from northern Canada. Back breaking work. Very disappointing to have picked all them. Only thing to do is to can them. They are too small to break up in a chopper
Hi! I'm very new to dehydration. Your videos are so helpful! Can I use the same process of making craisins on blueberries? I would like to have soft dried blueberries for making scones. Thanks so much!
They will not be soft and shelf-stable. Soft = mold. You need to dry them until they are dry which generally means hard. You then rehydrate them for baking. ua-cam.com/video/nRJSBuszydM/v-deo.html
Hi Darcy, Could I add sugar to the powder and use to sprinkle over muffins? These fruit powders are so pretty and would be so nice to use for decorations on deserts. Really enjoy your videos. You show how the end product should look and feel. That’s really helpful for me. 😄
I have an idea for you (about poking the cranberries). Why not use a sanitized tac (like the ones used to tac paper to a corkboard? They are easier than using a knife and you can poke your cranberries faster.
After doing all what you recommended for making sweetened craisins; would putting a desiccant in the jar also be an added precaution? I've never dehydrated before but I want to! I also have a vacuum sealer for canning jars I could use.
Is there a recipe to make cranberry juice from dried sweetened cranberries? I missed buying the fresh or frozen ones this last season. So I am left with dried cranberries which I think is going to be cheeper than frozen. Please tell me if the frozen cranberries would make a better juice than the dried sweetened cranberries . Thanks a lot I enjoyed your video today as soon as fresh cranberries come in season again I would love to make dried sweetened cranberries, cranberry powder and chopped up sweetened dried cranberries, like you have shown us to to today🤗
Can you put frozen cranberries in the sugar water then once the skin is broken can you dehydrate them for craisins? If not how do I dehydrate frozen cranberries?
You can, it just takes much longer to dry them, and they won't be chewy like the ones you purchase from the store. If you do prefer them softer, store them in the fridge.
Would the dehydrated whole cranberries (I like them whole in my lemon cakes) cook up tender with a chew in my cake mix or do they need a little rehyrating juice or like added?
Did u save the cooked sweetened cranberries? Perhaps a blended up into a syrup for pancakes or something? Inquiring minds want to know 😉. Never mind…you answered my question later in the video, 😂
Thank you. I have a question about frozen cabbage. Before thanksgiving I shredded 2 heads of cabbage. Did not have time to process. Can I dehydrate them in frozen state? I did not blanch. Also are the gray Ball leakprook lids ok to use when conditioning and or storage? Can't tell if they are for liquid or general use. Thank you.
Wonder if they can remain chewy and stored in the freezer or fridge. How DO they do the craisins so they stay chewy but don't mold? It's just cranberries and sugar. Nothing else....or nothing else listed anyway. I bought some unsweetened, dehydrated cranberries online once and even after 6 days in water in the fridge, they never softened. They remained extremely brittle and unusable
No. You either simmer in sugar water and that is blanching....or you blanch raw ones alone - it's two different things. There is no sugar in a raw cranberry to wash off.
Can I sprinkle some of this in my cats food? My cats are prone to UTI infections… the Meds I bought them had cranberry extract in it already but it is pricey.. so I figured I’d make my own cranberry powder Please respond. Thank you
i have not had good luck with dehydrating my cranberries. They have been in dehydrator for a week. i know i did so something wrong. But im not sure what. 😢
Since I don't know what your process was, I can't give you many tips. Have you let them cool off for about 5-10 minutes before testing? What's wrong with them?
Cranberry powder in iced tea instead of lemon is outstanding!
That sounds like a really, really good idea.
I was thinking hot tea, but YES! Sounds good 😊
I just thought of this and came here looking for how to make it!
I had the cranberries on my dehydrator as they were done i was looking making praline pecans. I got the idea to add a handful of freshly DH cranberries to the mix---oh my stars it was a step up. Thanks Marcie.
Sounds yummy!
Really useful information. Lots of details, and clear explanations.
Really appreciate your explaining how to make it without sugar!
Thank you!

Darcy, these ideas are genius! Thank you!!!
You're so welcome!

Great job!
This video came right on time I have several bags of cranberry’s and needed more ideas than juice and jelly.
You have made my day. You are a great teacher. Thank you so much for your tutorials. I’ve always wanted to use a food hydrator to save my favorite foods.❤️
You can do it!
Thank you so much for this cranberry how to. Love it! ♥️
You are so welcome!
You read my mind. I struck a new love for cranberries
Thank you for explaining the conditioning! Such good information, and important!! 😊
Cranberry Syrup sounds great!
Mmmmm I LOVE cranberries…they are GREAT in sooooo many things…yogurt, cookies, muffins, oatmeal…etc. TYFS!!! 💕🌸💕

Glad to have helped!
We love cranberries in our smoothies! ❤️
Do you sweeten the smoothie . Is it tart?
@@marthasanchez4711, with the other fruit like strawberries, it’s just bright, not too tart. 😉
Love this idea! If I buy organic, YAY! Thank you
Very thorough! Thanks! To be safe I store mine in the refrigerator.
Thanks for explaining this. I guessed and was close. 😊
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Hey, Darcy 👋. Thank you so much for sharing 💗🎄⛄️
You are so welcome
I'm very excited to get started, my Christmas present to myself was the Cosori dehydrator using your code. Thank you for your channel.
WOOHOO!!! Definitely happy dehydrating! Let me know if you have any questions!
I poke them with kenzan.
It's very difficult to find unsweetened, unsulfured cranberries with no oil on them, so I always dehydrate them myself.
They are so good in a healthy salad! 😋🥗
Another amazing job.😍
Thank you! Cheers!
Just love your channel. Thank you so much!!
You are so welcome!
You mentioned we could use parchment, I'm very new to cooking etc , is that parchment paper?
Yes
Great information. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I love cranberry powder!
I threw cranberries in my dehydrator one time. They took days, we’re horrible and I gave up. This gives me hope.
Lol sounds like me
I had the same problem the first time I tried. I didn’t realize I needed to pierce them
Too much work piercing all the intact ones. I spent 3 days trying to dehydrate them. Small hand picked bush cranberries from northern Canada. Back breaking work. Very disappointing to have picked all them. Only thing to do is to can them. They are too small to break up in a chopper
I love what you do. It's like, what? 😳
Thanks! Great info.

Of course. I would do it as you mean to serve it, not in storage.
Thanks
Thanks so much, Ann!
Luv these. I successful with this.👍🤗🎄
I have an idea for you (about poking the cranberries). Why not use a sanitized tac (like the ones used to tac paper to a corkboard? They are easier than using a knife and you can poke your cranberries faster.
A knife will be faster since it gets you a larger break. A tack needs 2-5 holes at least to give you a good evacuation of moisture
Cool🌺 💝😋
Do you have a link to the mesh colander you used when straining the cranberries into the bowl in the sink? Thanks

Bought mine at Walmart

After doing all what you recommended for making sweetened craisins; would putting a desiccant in the jar also be an added precaution? I've never dehydrated before but I want to! I also have a vacuum sealer for canning jars I could use.
Sure, if you'd like.
Is there a recipe to make cranberry juice from dried sweetened cranberries?
I missed buying the fresh or frozen ones this last season. So I am left with dried cranberries which I think is going to be cheeper than frozen.

I enjoyed your video today as soon as fresh cranberries come in season again I would love to make dried sweetened cranberries, cranberry powder and chopped up sweetened dried cranberries, like you have shown us to to today🤗
No but you can infuse the flavor into water with the cranberries, but it won't be cranberry juice.
Can you put frozen cranberries in the sugar water then once the skin is broken can you dehydrate them for craisins? If not how do I dehydrate frozen cranberries?
yes
So Darcy can you put them in whole in the dyhdrater I been wanting to do some myself I love them chewing
You can, it just takes much longer to dry them, and they won't be chewy like the ones you purchase from the store. If you do prefer them softer, store them in the fridge.
I have had mine in my dehydrator for 2 days at 135, and I give up. I think they have to be split or poked.
Can you use the cranberry bits for making cranberry sauce
yes, but it will take much longer to simmer them down.
Would the dehydrated whole cranberries (I like them whole in my lemon cakes) cook up tender with a chew in my cake mix or do they need a little rehyrating juice or like added?
They'll need to be rehydrated well before mixing in.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
You, too!
I looked on your Amazon link for the large strainer you used, but don't see it in your list.
Here it is: amzn.to/3yG6uKk
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thanks.
I bet these would be good in oatmeal too
You bet!
What would happen if you froze the cranberries before blanching in the simple syrup?
They may get mushy , so shorten the time.
would it be possible to make like a crannberry fruit leather maybe with apples (for the pectin)
sure - cook them down some so that they will puree better and blend.
Could you do this with cranberry pulp?? After making cranberry concentrate I have all this pulp left.
yes
Thank you.
Would steaming work to pop the whole cranberries?
any means of breaking the skin is fine.
What do you line your trays with?
Fruit leather sheets.
Hello . I don't have a dehydrator. Can I use an oven ?
If you have one that goes down low enough not to bake/burn - sure! 170F is the maximum I'd do it at.
Did u save the cooked sweetened cranberries? Perhaps a blended up into a syrup for pancakes or something? Inquiring minds want to know 😉. Never mind…you answered my question later in the video, 😂
After simmering them in simple syrup, wouldn't the ice bath rinse most of the sugar off?
No, they've incorporated it, and you need to stop them from cooking more so they don't turn to mush.
How would I use frozen fresh cranberries? Could I food process when frozen?
The same way - I would recommend thawing some before running through a food processor, but yes, they can start frozen.
Thank you.
I'm curious how the powder would be stirred into water or even a fruit juice to make juice
No - not only does it not dissolve, it's the fiber left, not the 'juice'. It infuses flavor, but doesn't recreate a juice.
@@ThePurposefulPantry
Oh man. I was really hoping to make powder for juice……. Is there anything else that you would use for juice ? Thanks ; )
@@esemmanuel6603 juice them first, then dry the juice.
Could I use frozen cranberries
yes
What is paper you are using on the trays?
It's not paper, it's fruit leather sheets. You can always use parchment paper.

The sugar.
Doesn't all the sugar wash off when. you blanch them?
No. You either simmer in sugar water and that is blanching....or you blanch raw ones alone - it's two different things. There is no sugar in a raw cranberry to wash off.

I can't give you advice because I am not a veterinarian. You'd need to ask them.

Darcy, if you cool them in an ice bath do they loose the sweetness of the simple syrup?
no
Don’t you have to wash and make sure they don’t have any stems
I did say they were already washed
