Love it! This album was so different but HUGELY successful, it sold over 16 million worldwide, won her pretty much every music award in the world, including a couple of Grammys and almost every MTV Video Music Award in 1998 including Best Female Video and Best Video Of The Year. She completely changed the popgame at the time.
There is a unreleased song from around this era called Arioso, you HAVE to listen to it, along with Has To Be and Revenge. I have no idea why they weren't included, but you won't regret listening to them.
'*Reacting 'To Have Not To Hold' 'This song is 5 Mintues long what for ?' I think to enjoy the 5 Mintues long song according to William Orbit the longer the better if it's 2 Mintues might have to repeat the track but yeah William Orbit has albums himself they're really good
Your knowledge of music made this experience of me re-listening to Ray of Light with you feel like I was listening to the album for the first time. I hope you know how amazing that is. One thing that always makes me sad after I hear an amazing song is that you can't re-capture that feeling of hearing it for the first time again, but your reaction to this album nearly brought it back. Thank you so much. This is my favorite Madonna album and I truly believe it is one of the most influential albums of pop music ever and brought Madonna from a famous pop queen to something more beyond. Frozen was the first single because I think that was the most accessible as it was a ballad but it introduced everyone to the new Madonna sound. It was her biggest hit from this album (I think). This album brought Madonna back to the forefront, and reenergized her career. This also gave her awards she previously was never truly considered for because this album forced people to take her seriously as a musical artist.
This is not only my favorite Madonna album, it’s my favorite album ever. I was heavily into ambient/electronic music in the 90s and always hoped she would do a full on electronic album. When she recorded Bedtime Story, I was like YES, this is the direction I want her to go!! I had to wait another 5 years until ROL, but I got my wish! Funny thing was, I was also heavily into William Orbit for several albums he did called Strange Cargo 1, 2, & 3. I always thought they would be the perfect match to make an album, and I was so happy they did! I highly recommend listening again with headphones. It’s the penultimate headphones album. So many bubbles! 💕 The best match of producer to artist ever, until Madonna did Confessions on a Dancefloor with Stuart Price. Can’t wait to see your reaction to that!
Thank you so much for this, I'm so happy right now! This album was a true blockbuster at the time. Madonna was praised as never before and finally started to be respected as an artist by critics and the general public. It was an artistic rebirth influenced by Evita yes, but mostly by the birth of her first child and a major spiritual awakening. She was genuinely inspired. I can't tell how much of an awe it was for fans to listen to it for the first time. I mean, fans from the time obviously didn't have the references you mentioned from your childhood, it was a sound that was all new and groundbreaking to the pop and mainstream world. A kind of sound thay most of us had never listened to. It was Madonna fever all over again and it sold like 5 million copies in its first two weeks (!!) and went to sell about 16 million that year. It has surpassed the 20 million mark since then. I can see why you don't see Frozen as single material, but it was the lead single before the album release (so, pretty much the responsible for the huge sales debut) and left everyone mesmerized. You pronounced Shanti Ashtangi pretty much the right way. It's Sanskrit, an ancient Hindu language that is one of the few sacred languages of the world, along with ancient Hebrew and Latin. It's the language of traditional Hindu mantras. Along with the Kabbalah initiation already mentioned in previous comments (which is a form of mystical Judaism), she dig deep into yoga at the time, namely Ashtanga Yoga, one of the most traditional and powerful types of the practice. Shanti Ashtangi is kind of a prayer/hymn for Ashtanga Yoga. Can't wait to see the videos reactions, they're all great! Love from Brazil ♥️
Gone are the days when mainstream Pop Artists were genuinely innovative, creative and powerful and soul searched to create works of art.... Madonna over and over did that and I have so many memories of being 6 and hearing my parents play this album... then eventually buying my own company her poetic lyrics her energy her raw emotive vocals and the production with Pat Leonard and William Orbit united together to create a watery/aquatic and intergalactic experience beyond anything else.... Frozen, Ray of Light, Subsitute for Love, Power of Goodbye, Nothing Really Matters were HUGE singles/videos from the album.... and the album sold 21 million copies and she FINALLY won her Grammy's for it.....and deservedly so... in 1998 Madonna along with Bjork, Daft Punk, Massive Attack, Moby brought Electronica/Trip Hop/Indie Pop into the maisntream in huge ways....... so timeless and HUGE.... yes incredible and the start of my favourite era of Madonna's 1998-2006...... as ever great reaction i am sure many fans will be posting trivia...but when she recorded it in 1997 there was a LOT going on in her life when she wrote and produced this album....and it shows.....and it is beautiful
I really hope her next album is going to be, as you put it, genuinely innovative, because that's actually her true strength. Sadly, yes, those days are long gone, gone, gone.
Finally!! I love this album, this is probably my favourite album of all time. Favourite songs: Sky Fits Heaven, Frozen, Power of Goodbye, Ray of Light, Mer Girl, Substitute for Love. William Orbit has to have been her greatest collaborator, match made in heaven artistically. The whole album is a freaking religious experience 😊
My favorite Madonna album, and one of my favorite albums of all time. Watching you review this. Brings me back to 98, when I first heard it. Madonna becoming a mother, finding a new spiritual practice in Kabbalah, Yoga, coming off a movie high, turning 40, and the end of a Millennium all inspired this album. Madonna's rebirth. Many times her career considered before and after Ray of Light. Madonna, Patrick Leonard and William Orbit. It just doesn't get any better.❤️
Sisley, it’s funny how during “Skin” you were talking about “textures.” Madonna did a VH1 special with Rupert Everett shortly after the album was released and when they were talking about making the album, Madonna said workin with William Orbit (the producer) resulted in “textures” and “layers.” I’d love for M herself to get word about your journey through her career!
Finally! Ray of Light one of my favorite Madonna albums, along with Erotica and Bedtime Stories. The album was mainly produced by William Orbit and also by Madonna, Patrick Leonard, and Marius de Vries.
I remember after Evita 1996, what else is Madonna going to do, she's done absolutelyq everything by now or is she going to retire, as she just turned 38 years of age and given birth to a child. Well, - March 1998, New York Times Square, Virgin Megastore, after listening to Madonna's Ray Of Light, I bought the newq album immediately. I knew then, she will never retire, we've seen nothing yet. Ray Of Light is my absolute FAV!
Sisley- Your reaction to track #5 "Skin" is both accurate and hilarious. It's my most favorite track off the album and your review makes me love it that much more. You're the best.
I still remember getting a call from the record store telling me that the new album had arrived. I was so excited! The video for Frozen was playing everywhere and the song was also all over the place! Can you believe that Frozen took ‘My Heart Will Go On” (Titanic’s theme tune from the number one spot?). Your reaction reminded me how I felt listening to this album for the very first time. It was magical!
Heads up for Confession on a dance floor which is a few albums later, but you should listen to the whole fade version where all the songs are connected it was produced that way
Also, just to add a bit more magic to this album, check out the bonus track, Has to be, which was only featured on the Japanese album, and as a b-side to some cd single releases. It is one of her most beautiful ballads ever.
Hi sweetheart. "Ray of Light" is absolutely one of my favorite Madonna albums. I adore "Frozen", "Little Star" and "The Power of Goodbye". Great album.
OMG you went straight into the album, not into a single/video :O So excited to watch this...the videos are masterpieces, Frozen, Ray Of Light, Substitute for Love, Power Of Goodbye and Nothing Really Matters were all singles.
Glad you loved it. It is a treasure to me, it has saved my life and inspired a more peaceful loving life for myself. I got the ray of light symbol tattooed on my forearm about a week ago and it is a permanent reminder of power 🕉✨
William Orbit produced this...Yes 100 percent agree that the production is the best part of this album...and Mer Girl has the most powerful lyrics by far. Thank you for reacting to this!
ppmvilhena My bad you are correct but let’s be honest...It’s mostly produced by Orbit. Madonna just tends to know exactly what she wants and directs the producer which gives her a credit. I say that because she’s only produced like what...1 or 2 songs by herself that have made it onto her albums? I think Hold Tight was one of them.
Dillon Thomas true. But it is more than credit. Production is more than hitting buttons. Direction counts a lot and this is why most madonna songs are distinctive, even with so many different producers throughout her career. It is also quite a sexist habit that people always praise her coproducers and ignore her.
Well Madonna had release stuff similar to ROL before ROL, like Sanctuary. Her and Mirwais topped that, they mixed well. I mean, Orbit worked with Britney too but it wasn't even close to ROL...
ppmvilhena Well yes of course it’s more than credit but had Madonna done most of the work she would have more songs with just her as the producer. Let’s not forget Madonna still is a pop artist and can’t be expected to do all the work. She has several brands to maintain, tours to perform, a body to keep in shape, children to raise, a persona to uphold etc. The reason producers often have their best work with her is because once again she knows what she wants. She has a vision and directs the producers extremely well and allows for experimentation. I give her credit where credit is due and I’m not saying her credit is worth any less than Orbits. ROL isn’t ROL without Madonna but she isn’t the one spending all day slaving over a digital audio workstation. She instead spends maybe 4 or 5 hours a day (not counting recording) reviewing and critiquing the work the producer comes up with and then makes changes where she sees fit. You’ll hear many producers say Madonna basically gives them artistic freedom as long as they stick to a vision she has. I love Madonna she quite literally saved my life...but I’m not going to say she’s a great producer just because I love her. She couldn’t do it without her coproducers and they do bring her albums to life. That’s why she hires them.
This album is such a masterpiece! It’s universally acclaimed, it won the most vmas in the 1999 ceremonies with 5 making Madonna the winner with the most and 4 Grammys etc. This album was commercially successful and is her best performing 90s record if you don’t count the immaculate collection. Ray of light sold 16m copies ww outselling erotica (7m), bedtime stories (8m) something to remember (10m) and evita soundtrack (11m) . The following singles are Frozen Ray of light Drowned world/substitute for love The power of goodbye Nothing really matters Both frozen and ray of light were big hits for her.
Videos, in order of release: Frozen Ray of Light Drowned World (not released in US) The power of goodbye Nothing really Matters Beautiful Stranger (Soundtrack single) (1999) American Pie (Soundtrack single) (2000) American Pie could be included with this section or the next period. The single was released prior to the release of her next album, Music, but it also ended up being added to the Music album in some European markets (against Madonna’s wishes, which bothered her) So up to you when you want to include it.
In fact, the singles of the album was ''Frozen'', ''Ray of Light'', ''The Power of Goodbye'' and ''Nothing Really Matters''. ''Frozen'' and ''Ray of Light'' was a massive hit worldwide and consider by many two of her most successful songs of her career.. ''Drowned World'' was released a non-US single outside US and Canada.
ALso side note after watching reaction...made me laugh with the comment of Frozen "not sounding the most single material of the album" when it was the lead song and one of her biggest hits hehe... not a criticism....but another season of why Madonna is such a genius putting the lead song as a truly experimental ballad and was a huge hit... number one in many countries, same with the title song was a huge hit as the second single.
Michael had" Thriller". Gaye had "Whats Going On" Springsteen had "Born in USA" and Madonna had "Ray of Light"......won her a few grammys for this album. they couldnt snub her anymore after this album
Vídeos: -Frozen -Ray of Light -Nothing really martes -The power of goodbye -Drowned World/Substitute for love Those were the singles and in that order. Frozen was #2 at Billboard Hot 100. Ray of Light Top 5. "Shanti/Ashtangi" is a prayer in sanscrit, which is one of the most ancient languages in India. There are many live perfomances of the singles. It is Madonna ahead of her time once more! Long live the Queen!! Nice reaction!
That's not the correct order, the correct order of single releases is: frozen, ray of light, Drowned World, power of goodbye and last nothing really matters
Frozen was the first single, a worldwide hit although peaked at #2 in the US (the titanic song dominated the #1 spot for weeks). Followed by Ray of Light, Power of Goodbye, Drowned World (not an official single in the US) and Nothing Really Matters ( a huge #1 dance song). The album is stunning. my favs - Mer Girl, Nothing Really Matters & Skin. Music in the 90's shifted, but she shifted too releasing an electronic album but with feelings, emotion and at times deeply personal. She achieved that with new producer William Orbit and her newfound voice from vocal training for Evita. There was stiff competition at the Grammys but she walked away with pop album of the year and 3 other grammys. After crashing with Erotica (an under rated work of art that sold well but not what's expected for a M album) ROL was a hit around the world with sales similar to her albums from the 80's and firmly placed the queen of pop crown where it belonged.
Ray of light was a massive hit all over the world. Brought Madonna back to the top of the charts and gave her the best reviews ever! Loads of VMAs and Grammies followed. Difficult to pick one song... I’d say that right now my favourite is Skin... I’d knew you’d love this album. William Orbit with Madonna created a masterpiece. The videos are amazing, but you need to check some live performances of the non singles (ie. sky fits heaven). Thank you for posting it. 😀
"Ray of Light" is my BEST Madonna song ever! First time I heard, I cried because of how good it is. And let's not forget Madonna won a Grammy for the album and the title song. Your reaction is gold... lol. I died when you said "Oh fuck me up queen!"
Love love love your reactions Sisley! Your enthusiasm is utterly contagious and your comments really underline all the key points to this masterpiece❤️ It is such a shame that some people decide to remain closeted-Madonna fans though and try to discredit her as a producer. They are SO wrong. This album was produced mainly by MADONNA with Orbit and others. She is one of the highest caliber producers and this is why the ones that have collaborated with her never managed to recreate with others the majestic results they achieved with Madonna💯
I loved your reaction to this album 💚 And I really understand why you said it has the 90’ and 00’ vibes, but there’s something maybe you should consider though : there were absolutely different beats back then! To explain that better, I was born at 88 and I grew up listening to music videos. When these songs came up they really got me confused, in a way that even made me hate her. Several years later I understood these sounds were ahead those times. Due this album, and some other artists, the electronic/indie/synthesized rhythms influenced most of the pop music we listen today. Concerts are a completely master piece, I really hope you’ll react to them someday. Only then you’ll get how and artist she is. :)
Really enjoyed your reaction on this, from a retrospective stand point . Those of us fans who were around when this was released knew it was something special .. It was a hugely successful album , critically and commercially . Selling around 15-16 millions copies worldwide . There's so much to take in and connect to , it's almost impossible to appreciate its true worth on a single listen . Hope you go back to it and let it work it's magic comprehensively. There's never been an album quite like this by anyone , either before M, or since ... :0)
Loved the reaction! So glad you sorted out the issues! Think you should watch some Drowned World Tour performances of some of the songs from Ray Of Light! ❤️👑🇬🇧
Awesome. U are into RAY era. This is the begining of a more MADONNA ELETRONICA...and I Love It! ... Ray OF Light The Power OF Good bye Nothing Really Matters... ... Amazing songs
You really should check out the Drowned World Tour performance of Frozen. Now THAT is theatrical art in its highest form! Same goes for Mer Girl/sky fits heaven
Her use of different guitars with slow emotional techno inspired music was completely groundbreaking and unheard at the time. Creatively this was a peak moment for pop music.
Sisley, Madonna was heavly inspired by Kabalah and Yoga at that time, so the lyrics have this power of talking about metaphysical things, she teamed up with William Orbit, responsible for this refreshening sound. Also, being a mother, Lourdes was 2 at the time if I'm not mistaken, changed a lot of her perspectives. Shanti/Ashtangi is a Yoga mantra, it's enchanted before a Yoga pratice, and if I'm also not mistaken, the Ashtangi Yoga is one of the heaviest Yoga pratices, you can see Madonna giving examples of this pratice when she performed Vogue at her Re-Invention Tour :)
The genius Producer of this album is William Orbit. an english man Shanti/ashtangi is in Sanscrit (a language from India). It's based on a Mantra and basically speaks about Shiva
apple snow You are wrong. This album was produced mainly by MADONNA with Orbit and others. Check your facts and try not to discredit her as a producer. She is one of the highest caliber producers and this is why the ones that have collaborated with her never managed to recreate with others the majestic results they achieved with Madonna💯
I don't agree with you that this albums was '' so signature of late 90' early 2000' '', when this album came out it was completely ahead of it's time and still sounds fresh and could be released tomorrow and would still sound current, I feel like Madonna partly made the course how music went to early 2000 thanks to amazing and specific William Orbit style of production.
I agree. When I hear this album, I don’t think of 90’s nostalgia, signature 90’s or hits of the 90’s. Even if the album has sounds that were mostly popular in the 90’s, it still doesn’t make me think this album is limited to that decade. This album is a journey. Albums like these don’t come along very often. Every now and then, an artist will release a masterpiece that transcends decades and lives on.
This album was such a huge chapter in my life, my first true foray into madonna and I've been hers truly ever since. I didn't know what to expect from your video but it was so rewarding to hear your excitement and praise for what is truly one of my favorite albums I've ever known. I'm curious what your other favorite madonna album is? Although it wasnt as commercially successful as ray of light or music, I think American life was my favorite... although hard candy, confessions and music, even rebel heart were such amazing albums too.
This was such a wonderful journey to go on with you! I watched the whole video! This album is a true pop and electronica masterpiece - along with Like a Prayer, both could be put into a vault as examples of music and art at its very finest, alongside other classic artists. The only thing that drives me crazy is that the misinformed dismiss the album as being great solely thanks to the producer. Which is why it made me so happy when you picked out during Skin that the melody was so clearly a Madonna melody, and that the lyrics to Mer Girl and others were so personal to her. It was a definite collaboration, and she is worthy of as much praise as anyone for this masterpiece. My favourites are Drowned World / Substitute for Love, Ray of Light and Frozen. I know the latter wasnt a highlight of yours, but for the rest of us who experienced this album in 1998, it was our first introduction to it, and deeply loved! Thanks Sisley, keep up the great work!
I love this album because this album came out in the year, I was born in 1998. I born in Ray of light era When the power of goodbye video release in MTV SEPTEMBER 11
I'm so glad I finally got to re-experience this album through your eyes. We all knew you would love it. I would also suggest listening to Has To Be which was the b-side to the Ray Of Light single, but also included on some editions of the Ray Of Light album as the final track. I also recommend watching Madonna perform Little Star on the Oprah show. It has a great acoustic arrangement and she sounds amazing.
Excelente reacción. La producción del álbum es excelente. Reaccionaste cómo reacciona un fan de Madonna. Son sonidos y letras que se disfrutan mucho. Deberías de ver los videos de cada single también son de los mejores.
So glad you liked it! But that was a no giver... my faves are Mer Girl, Nothing Really Matters and Swim! So glad you got your way around uploading the video! Keep on with those amazing reactions, it brings me joy to watch you!
i had the same reaction when i heard ray of light for the very first time. It's the album of my life and the title track is my all time fav song ever. i'm really happy that you love this masterpiece as much as i do. I can't wait to watch your reactions to the album's music videos. (and about suggesting you live performances; please check out the ray of light live performance at the oprah winfrey show 1998 and nothing really matters live at the grammy awards 1999)
Great live performance of Ray of Light is on Oprah Winfreys show-Oprah n the crowd are dancing away.Oprah said it was one of her fav performances she ever had on her show n it made the famous meme of Oprah! Vocally its Madonnas best live performance of Ray of Light-imo
*RAY OF LIGHT TIMESTAMPS* drowned world / substitute for love - 1:10 swim - 3:45 ray of light - 6:02 candy perfume girl - 8:40 skin - 10:50 nothing really matters - 14:23 sky fits heaven - 16:20 shanti/ashtangi - 18:42 frozen - 20:40 the power of goodbye - 22:04 to have and not to hold - 24:46 little star - 26:54 mer girl - she didnt react to this one
This album is my favorite of hers, with Like A Prayer tying with it. It's hard for me to choose. As for "Shanti/Ashanti", Madonna had recently joined the Kabala Jewish church and used the chant from it as a song on her album. The chant was also in the background of "To Have And Not To Hold" to balance the sadness of that song. "Little Star" was written about Lordes, yes while "Mer Girl" was a dream about her mother.
Just for the sake of accuracy, Shanti Ashtangi is from Hinduism, which Madonna was very into at the time. It's a yoga chant and it's got nothing to do with the Kabbalah, which is a Jewish form of mysticism and philosophy and it's definitely not a church ;)
This reaction was amazing I loved it! Ray of Light is generally considered as the best Madonna album. It is my third favorite, behind Like a Prayer and Music (which is the next album you have to react to actually). Madonna first worked with Babyface, who produced two songs on Bedtime Stories, to work on the album. However all the material from these sessions was scrapped, as it sounded too much like what they did before. She then worked with Patrick Leonard (main producer of Like a Prayer and True Blue), to create some other songs, as well as with Rick Nowells, who is now known for being the main producer on Lana Del Rey albums. Then William Orbit was brought into the project to add his touch on some of the tracks and create some new ones with Madonna. Not all the tracks from the scrapped sessions leaked, but those which were are some of the best tracks on her career and I think it would be a great idea to react to some of them at the end of this marathon. 5 singles were released from the album, all of which got music videos. Those were: -Frozen -Ray of Light (which Madonna wanted to be the lead single) -Drowned World -The Power of Good-bye -Nothing Really Matters 3 other tracks were also released as promo singles, which were: -Skin (actually planned to be the 6th single, but cancelled once Beautiful Stranger, a song from the Austin Powers soundtrack, became a single instead) -Sky Fits Heaven (which her label wanted as the 3rd single, but Madonna went ahead and chose Drowned World) -Little Star My favorite track on the album is Frozen. It just has that hypnotic feeling that I love, and I adore the chorus. My least favorite has to be Little Star. I just can't relate to it in anyway and the literal lyrics are a bit meh. It's in no way a bad song though. As a little trivia, the song Swim was recorded the day one of her best friends died, that's probably why you can hear a lot of emotion in her voice during the track. After reacting to the 6 music videos I've told you, I recommend reacting to the "Sky Fits Heaven/Mer Girl" performance from the Drowned World Tour. It's one of the best of her career and you haven't reacted to a performance in a while. Also Sky Fits Heaven doesn't have a music video, but was a huge club hit in the US, so I guess you could watch that instead before going into the Music era.
"Madonna has never sounded this good." Thanks to Evita and her vocal lessons 😉 This album is special and I can tell why fans love it. I think it's a bit overrated and too consistent (most songs sound the same) and I have to be in a calming mood when I listen to it. But it does contain some of my fav songs: Frozen and Drowned World. Fun fact: the "crashing" sounds you hear in Frozen is from the producer banging trashcan lids together. He really worked magic with the production and her lyrics for this album are her best ever. Here is English translation for the lyrics from Shanti/Ashtangi: I worship the gurus' lotus feet Awakening the happiness of the self revealed Beyond comparison, working like the jungle physician To pacify loss of consciousness from the poison of existence In the form of a man up to the shoulders Holding a conch, discus and sword Thousand headed, white I bow respectfully Peace
After this album she began to be much more conceptual and risky for pop music and did two albums that weren't considered hits, but are actually two of my favorite albums, Music, and American Life. To me those albums and Ray of Light solidify her as an artist, and not just a pop act.
I really enjoyed your reaction and your spiritual experience comment made me smile. thank you for sharing this video with us. I'm so glad you enjoyed one of my favorite albums of all time.
Thanks for watching! The most requested Madonna reaction is here - and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

I think to enjoy the 5 Mintues long song according to William Orbit the longer the better if it's 2 Mintues might have to repeat the track but yeah William Orbit has albums himself they're really good
One of the BEST albums ever, not just pop, all genres, it's a work of Art and inspired Adeles album. 😊😊😊
This album sounds way better with earphones on
barzolaster and high on weed. Lol!
@@duke56299 you are so right
Or with Dolby Digital Surround Sound System.
Try some Ketamine
This album is a masterpiece ❤️

You're so right! Bjork, portishead, tori Amos, even garbage and no doubt. More than anything tho, madonna 💓
Sisley, it’s funny how during “Skin” you were talking about “textures.” Madonna did a VH1 special with Rupert Everett shortly after the album was released and when they were talking about making the album, Madonna said workin with William Orbit (the producer) resulted in “textures” and “layers.”
I’d love for M herself to get word about your journey through her career!
You have space on your wall for a Madonna poster haha.
Almost 3200 views in less than 2 days, your Madonna reactions are always popular
Heads up for Confession on a dance floor which is a few albums later, but you should listen to the whole fade version where all the songs are connected it was produced that way
You will definitely enjoy the videos from this era, they were some of the best of her career.
Drowned World / Substitute For Love still blows me away and gives me delightful shivers even now many years later. It's magnificent
This is a life changing album ....u need to hear it again
This is one of the album I'll take with to eternity. I love it. It give me chills. It is a masterpiece.
OMG you went straight into the album, not into a single/video :O
So excited to watch this...the videos are masterpieces, Frozen, Ray Of Light, Substitute for Love, Power Of Goodbye and Nothing Really Matters were all singles.
This album is Best for Meditation. 🙏🏻🌸
I can't do my yoga without this album!
a beautiful, magical and professional reaction, thank you 😊
Glad you loved it.
Dillon Thomas small correction. Album was produced by MADONNA and William Orbit.
ppmvilhena My bad you are correct but let’s be honest...It’s mostly produced by Orbit.
I was 9 years old in '98...and always will be the best MADONNA era 🤘❤ ( now i'm 29 ) she is the greatest
The following singles are
Frozen
Ray of light
Drowned world/substitute for love
The power of goodbye
Nothing really matters
Both frozen and ray of light were big hits for her.
It was the 1998 VMAs... :)
My favourite song on this album is "Mer girl"
The last line "I'm still running away" always hits me on such a deep level.❤️❤️
Check out the live performance of Ray of Light, from The Oprah Show.
Videos, in order of release:
Frozen
Ray of Light
Drowned World (not released in US)
The power of goodbye
Nothing really Matters
Beautiful Stranger (Soundtrack single) (1999)
American Pie (Soundtrack single) (2000)
American Pie could be included with this section or the next period. The single was released prior to the release of her next album, Music, but it also ended up being added to the Music album in some European markets (against Madonna’s wishes, which bothered her)
So up to you when you want to include it.
This hair is everythingggg
* Trust In Madonna *
Vídeos:
-Frozen
-Ray of Light
-Nothing really martes
-The power of goodbye
-Drowned World/Substitute for love
Those were the singles and in that order.
Matias Figo 🙏🏻🌸❤️
That's not the correct order, the correct order of single releases is: frozen, ray of light, Drowned World, power of goodbye and last nothing really matters
Madonnaungerground is correct re the video order. Very important for us Madonna pedants that you view them in the correct order.
madonnaunderground yes that is the correct list 👍
I am halfway through your reaction and I love how perceptive you are, and how good at articulating it you are! instant subscribe!
It’s my favorite album ever! It’d be awesome if William Orbit would produce another entire album with Madonna.
I've been waiting for this reaction since forever
josefe704 Yeah I agree - Paradise is a work of art and one of my most favourite Madonna tracks
The album of my heart
For sure🙏
"Ray of Light" is my BEST Madonna song ever! First time I heard, I cried because of how good it is. And let's not forget Madonna won a Grammy for the album and the title song. Your reaction is gold... lol. I died when you said "Oh fuck me up queen!"
You don't think Frozen is single material but it is the first single from the album!😉😅😊
Ray of Light is my life guide and Confessions is my Dance book hahahaha
Love love love your reactions Sisley! Your enthusiasm is utterly contagious and your comments really underline all the key points to this masterpiece❤️
It is such a shame that some people decide to remain closeted-Madonna fans though and try to discredit her as a producer. They are SO wrong. This album was produced mainly by MADONNA with Orbit and others. She is one of the highest caliber producers and this is why the ones that have collaborated with her never managed to recreate with others the majestic results they achieved with Madonna💯
I keep coming back to this reaction ^^
donkeycobblers you remind me of me so much. The passion for Madge is real.
@@dylankniight Yup.. Passion, Admiration... and Gratitude..If she was a friend of mine, id owe her some massive payback, for sure...;o)
@@dylankniight same haha couldn't have said it better
Loved the reaction! So glad you sorted out the issues! Think you should watch some Drowned World Tour performances of some of the songs from Ray Of Light! ❤️👑🇬🇧
Awesome.
U are into RAY era.
This is the begining of a more MADONNA ELETRONICA...and I Love It!
...
Ray OF Light
The Power OF Good bye
Nothing Really Matters...
...
Amazing songs
Best album ever!!
Best madonna album along with confession. Can't wait for the video reactions!
This is the Beginning of Alternative Pop Music 👑👑👑♠️♠️♠️❤️❤️❤️
You really should check out the Drowned World Tour performance of Frozen. Now THAT is theatrical art in its highest form! Same goes for Mer Girl/sky fits heaven
Madonna called this album ‘drug music without drugs’
And it is a masterpiece
Her use of different guitars with slow emotional techno inspired music was completely groundbreaking and unheard at the time. Creatively this was a peak moment for pop music.
Sisley, Madonna was heavly inspired by Kabalah and Yoga at that time, so the lyrics have this power of talking about metaphysical things, she teamed up with William Orbit, responsible for this refreshening sound. Also, being a mother, Lourdes was 2 at the time if I'm not mistaken, changed a lot of her perspectives. Shanti/Ashtangi is a Yoga mantra, it's enchanted before a Yoga pratice, and if I'm also not mistaken, the Ashtangi Yoga is one of the heaviest Yoga pratices, you can see Madonna giving examples of this pratice when she performed Vogue at her Re-Invention Tour :)
love it work it sisley your happiness is contagious
I remember buying this album on my 15 birthday and I was shook when I heard it
Ray of light is my alarm clock song lol
Its my favorite album. Thanks you for sharing this reaction.
The genius Producer of this album is William Orbit. an english man
Shanti/ashtangi is in Sanscrit (a language from India). It's based on a Mantra and basically speaks about Shiva
This album was mostly produced by William Orbit. I love substiture for love, ray of light, the power of goodbye and sky fits heaven
apple snow You are wrong.
You're wrong and Sisley is right. Love the album all you want, but it does sound late 90s/early 2000. It was a different Madonna album, that's it.
Ray of light was ahead of it's time and still sounds fresh but it definitely defined the late 90's/early 2000' and it is signature of that time.
Shanti/Ashtangi is sung in Sanskrit and is a hindu prayer.
You need to listen to the song Has to Be, an extra song from the Ray of Light era!😇
Interesting Person So true. Wish it was available on Apple Music.
@@SatyaRanjanMishra it is not available? Wow! Gambler is another song I can't find in Apple, Spotify and Pandora
Yeahhhhh amazing song
And Gone Gone Gone!!
that song is from the album "Music" which comes after "Ray of Light"
Like a Prayer, Ray Of Light and True Blue are my favorite albums by Madonna. The singles are amazing!
Yes yes yes!!!
I born in Ray of light era
When the power of goodbye video release in MTV SEPTEMBER 11
you're so precious!! ray of light's one my favorite albums ever and i'm glad you enjoyed it cuz it's a perfect album from madonna
I really liked your reaction !
OOMMMGGG FINAAAAAALLY
"that was a fuckin religious experience"
You couldn't have said it better :)
Have not watched yet, but so excited! Thanks Sisley!😇
Great live performance of Ray of Light is on Oprah Winfreys show-Oprah n the crowd are dancing away.Oprah said it was one of her fav performances she ever had on her show n it made the famous meme of Oprah! Vocally its Madonnas best live performance of Ray of Light-imo

your reaction to the tittle album son was LIFE
masterpiece! I have yet to hear an entire album from any artist that tops ROL.
pixarian isn’t that the truth!
Stellar reaction! I can't wait until you get to Confessions on a Dancefloor! It's similar to Ray of Light, but more disco.
@@adrianoluz1108 Yes, Adriano is right!
Those were:
-Frozen
-Ray of Light (which Madonna wanted to be the lead single)
-Drowned World
-The Power of Good-bye
-Nothing Really Matters
3 other tracks were also released as promo singles, which were:
-Skin (actually planned to be the 6th single, but cancelled once Beautiful Stranger, a song from the Austin Powers soundtrack, became a single instead)
-Sky Fits Heaven (which her label wanted as the 3rd single, but Madonna went ahead and chose Drowned World)
-Little Star
My favorite track on the album is Frozen.
"Madonna has never sounded this good." Thanks to Evita and her vocal lessons 😉
This album is special and I can tell why fans love it.
Here is English translation for the lyrics from Shanti/Ashtangi:
I worship the gurus' lotus feet
Awakening the happiness of the self revealed
Beyond comparison, working like the jungle physician
To pacify loss of consciousness from the poison of existence
In the form of a man up to the shoulders
Holding a conch, discus and sword
Thousand headed, white
I bow respectfully
Peace
I think the songs sound different, but the way it's put together makes everything sound a little muddled. A remaster is needed for this one.
🙏🏻🌸
This album is BRILLIANT!!! React to American Life and Confessions on a Dance Floor! ❤️🤙🏽
This album is pure perfection!! Hard to find words to describe it. It’s Magical!!!
After this album she began to be much more conceptual and risky for pop music and did two albums that weren't considered hits, but are actually two of my favorite albums, Music, and American Life. To me those albums and Ray of Light solidify her as an artist, and not just a pop act.
I loved your reaction, you made me relive the first time I listen to it. I was about 10. Still one of my favorite albums.
You should listen "Has to Be", japanese bonus track of this album. I really love this song !
Hey Sisley I’m so glad you enjoy all these Madonna albums!! I hope
You like the next few albums aka my
Favourites!!
Expecting Your reaction of Power of goodbye, for me the best, beautifull, melancholy and sad Madonna-track and her best vocal performance.
I really enjoyed your reaction and your spiritual experience comment made me smile. thank you for sharing this video with us. I'm so glad you enjoyed one of my favorite albums of all time.
