Conceptually brilliant, musically crazy, original, bold and some of the best tracks of Madonna’s career. This album falls into the ‘existential’ Madonna category or me, joining Ray of Light, Music and American Life. Madame X is political, daring and genuinely one of the best albums I’ve heard in a very long time. Referring to the albums musical composition, heavy electronica fused with 90’s house, disco, orchestral, choral and Latin cultural influences... original, ridiculous and it shouldn’t work but it does. I admire how deep Madonna dug for the albums lyrics. I admire the very direct lyrics where she talks about ‘rising above it all’, obviously referring to the abuse she gets for ageing and expressing herself on her own terms. This album is why I love Madonna.
keith parkhill I consider most of pop music to be a fart into a microphone. I think if any artist has earned the right of our musical expectations, it is Madonna. I think I don’t need to justify my admiration for Madonna and her music. Honey.
@@dylankniight what about confessions on a dance floor or like a prayer? I think like a prayer is her best album lyrically and confessions on a dance floor is her best album when it comes to production and overall my fav from her
Crazy makes me happy, I can't explain why, it just gives me happy some nostalgic vibes. She outdid herself with this album, definitely her best in a long time.
WOW is all i can say... i wasn't a HUGE fan of the first 5 songs (Dark Ballet has grown on me) but on this album and in context WOW.... hearing new Madonna music after so long has a whole different energy when compared to others especially as she has been my constant for 20 years... so the fact that in her 60s she is making material, concept albums and production energy this off the wall, experimental and insane like if she were in her 20s and 30s still is SO inspiring..... I dare say in time this album will be held in similar regard to Confessions, Ray of Light, Like a Prayer as a true defining album.... I will still need time to process it... But i love when she goes full on quirky and out there.... something that has been missing since Confessions.... brilliant
Umm you skipped rebel heart lol. Rebel heart is definitely better. It's experimental but not too much that it's overbearing like Madame x. Rebel heart has one of her finest songs ghosttown, devil pray, and Joan of arc.
She worked with Mirwais, who she worked with on Music and American Life, my two absolute favorite albums of hers because of how experimental they were. For me Madame X is her best album since Confessions on a Dancefloor.
One of my friends turned me and another friend on to your channel. Now we have a three way conversation talking about your experiences with the Madonna albums/videos and hearing a fresh take on them (as we are all three huge Madonna fans and have grown up with her music) All three of us enjoy listening and watching you react to her work as an artist. It's refreshing to see someone actually sit down and pay attention to what the artist is offering and also your take on production is great. New subscriber for sure! Thanks for your reviews! I have a lot of catching up to do especially on your Madonna playlist lol
God Control is about gun control, this album is absolutely surprise, very different from her last albums, little bit experimental and very satisfied to listen. Waiting was worth it, Madonna shows again why she’s one of the best in pop music, I love it 👏👏👏
I absolutely love Madame❌ It reminds me of walking into a nightclub with different music on different floors and has something for everyone to connect and dance to!! Love how so many tracks changes and evolves! Such a unique album! It’s funny that you have that Moana doll on the table as “Come Alive” makes me think that it would be well suited to a Disney film like Moana!! Living for “Bitch I’m Loca” such a tune!! “I Don’t Search I Find” reminds me of “Vogue” & “Deeper & Deeper” love it!! I completely get what you mean about the auto-tune, but I have been watching her rehearsal videos for her upcoming tour and she has been singing them without auto-tune, so safe to say she hasn’t lost her vocal abilities! 😊 Love your Madonna reactions as always!! ❤️❤️❤️ P.S. I really hope Madonna found Mercy!! 🤣 ❌
About your gripe concerning the autotune in this album: the times where you mentionned it, it were on tracks produced by Mirwais (that did most of her Music album and all of her American Life album). His production tricks are very unique and you'll see that on American Life as well. The autotune / volume difference between the vocals and instrumental (mostly talking about Killers and Extreme Occident here) was probably done on purpose with the intention to give a unique feeling to this album, which it does. I do agree that the autotune is sometimes too much (on the first listen, I thought that it could have been toned down a bit on Dark Ballet and Batuka where the autotune downgrades the songs in my opinion). But in the end it's her choice as well as the one of her producer, and the album will be partly remembered for it. At least two other videos were shot for this album. One is for God Control, that is confirmed, and will probably be released soon. Another one was shot as well but we don't know for what song. But from the pictures, it will probably be for Batuka or Come Alive (++). For now, I'd rank this in the better half of her discography, but I don't know exactly where. It certainly doesn't beat my Top 3 (being Like a Prayer, Music and Ray of Light), but I like it, it's very experimental for today standards and probably needs a few more listens to be fully understood. Most of the lyrics are great. I love the portugal influence throughout the album as well it makes it stand out. Great reaction Sisley thank you! 😘
Roman Zolanski omg.. God Control video confirmed? Fuck yah. My issue with auto tune is vocally she’s never been a (Capital S) Singer like Whitney, Céline or Mariah but her voice is so emotive and connects so well with her audience. If her voice is auto tuned then it puts a distance between her and her listeners. Despite that this album is a masterpiece.
She just said in the "Welcome to the world of Madame X documentary" that she loves the use of futuristic robotic voices in music, so I guess she simply decided to use it because she likes it.
Labas Sidley, after few listening I can say it's very original and experimental...and I love it My top 5 tracks : Extreme Occident, Crave, Dark Ballet, Looking for Mercy, Batuka... Thanks for your reaction
The production kinda reminds me of Erotica, this sort of ‘underproduced’ but on purpose, tan sounds weird but good, I really loved this album, I think it’s pretty innovative, it sounds new and fresh, it really does feel like Madonna
I could watch you do this all day. You are SOOOO RIGHT about the power of music to influence the masses. You want to learn Portuguese now, don't you??? That stood out to me the most,on the first listen - I love Portuguese!!!
The album is very different from all her others, by far her least commercial one but i feel like it's a grower. Alot of the most interesting ones are. But i'm also excited for you Sisley, to continue to discover her back catalogue in the 2000s....i think Day Another Day from American Life 2002 is next. x
Great review! Aside from the two songs with Maluma, she is singing in Portuguese in the other songs that she sings in a foreign language. The cool thing about it is that in some songs she sings with the pronunciation of Portuguese from Portugal but in others she sings with Brazilian Portuguese which is different. I would even go as far as her accent even varies with influences from different part of Brazil which is surprisingly fun if you speak Portuguese, as I do. The album is experimental, and almost sounds a bit like Moby in Batuka. You were keen to say that there it is a little like Madonna 90’s in I Don’t Search I Find as it has elements of Vogue and Music with an Erotica feel to it. Some songs have classic Madonna hooks, and others are more interesting and retrospective then catchy pop songs. Somewhat like some of the songs from Music, same producer. Regardless, I think there is something for everyone.
This album is experimental, raw, different. When you react to "American Life" you will realised how Mirwais works and you will understand this production. To me and most of the critics it is her best album since Confessions!! To me is better than Confessions!! She's done it again, She's changing things, again. Bravo Madonna!!!
I love this New album by the true queen of pop! The auto tune was not an issue to me I think it just added to the whole experience. Madonna I feel is the only artist that’s using her platform as an artist to provoke thought and effect real change. She isn’t afraid of pushing the envelope even if it means she’ll be unpopular and that’s a risk most refuse to take! My standout tracks are Crave, god Control and I don’t search I find. The whole album is truly a work of art though love it!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's easily my favorite M album since Confessions! As far as the 'voice' effect you mentioned having confusion about-that is unfortunately a trait of Mirwais' production. He's one of her best producers but that's a side effect of his work. You'll come to hear it again when you get to and listen to the 'Confessions' album... Loved your reaction! God Control and I Don't Search I Find seems to be everyone's favorites but I myself am partial to Come Alive and Crazy. Hopefully we get more music videos soon!
So sad that she didnt include FUNANA in the record, its an amazing track that speaks about music and all great music talents that have gone lately. Please listen to it and tell us what you think😄

some parts of the songs the language is Portuguese. for exemple> o mundo e selvagem means the world is wild and O caminho e solitario means the way is lonely

I agree with what you said about the production on her vocals. It feels like some songs are just clashing with others and makes the album feel unbalanced. Not sure if this is just a difference between the Mirwais produced songs and the Mike Dean ones but it throws me off. Strong tracks when listened individually and not an album I feel the need to listen to from start to finish. Just doesn’t flow.
I wouldn't categorize the flow necessarily as 'clashing, but would suggest that perhaps a few tracks seem misplaced... For instance, I think I' d appreciate 'Looking for Mercy' more if it wasn't the prelude to 'I Rise' and was placed somewhere in the middle of the album.... Actually, if I were the one to have made the call, I wouldv'e put 'Extreme Occident' in it's place and vice versa. We don't get to make such decisions, but the beautiful digital world gives us the option to alter the playlist to our liking.
