- So, I finished watching True Detective and thought it was a pretty awesome show. It really has potential, and the creator, Nic Pozzolatto, is a new writter for TV shows and I feel like his work is something I can look forward to. The first season was awesome, and although I'll miss Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart in the next season, I think the second season can be as awesome as this one was. Until then, here is my tribute for the first season!

Crazy to think the two actors were originally supposed to play each other's roles, that would have ended up so catastrophically compared to this masterpiece.

+Shteno Well, that's exactly what I meant with "it has potential". It had potential to be a good series instead of being just one good season, turns out it wasn't the case apparently. Haven't watched season 2 yet but from the looks of it, it was a "one hit wonder".
Reptilia MV The thing is that I write for living too. And I've been into books, writing (including all kinds of scenarios) and I know how it works. Thus, I was 1000% sure that no matter who's behind the script of season 1, it was so obvious that the man (in this case Nic Pizzolatto) had put in it a lot of his whole personal philosophy (also, as it happens by a coincidence, I've studied philosophy as well), knowledge, attitudes towards life in general...and most of all, his passion for writing and creating a story and characters, from the bottom of his heart. And something like that doesn't happen on an industrial level. Meaning, it's impossible to repeat something like that only in 6 months (the time he had for writing the 2nd season).
But, another thing was also obvious - Nic is really a great writer, and that he'll do something good for sure. And that's what we've got in season 2. Very decent story, but trivially good, if I may say so. And it wouldn't have been so bad, if he had made a little bit better solutions for the (obvious) problems, and if he hadn't try to create characters that are expected to be loved by the audience the same way as Rust and Marty. Especially since they were different, but yet similar in numerous ways (where he fucked up, in my humble opinion), if you know what I mean.
I better stop here :)) I've started tripping a lot!

Thank fuck for your intelligent and honest criticism. I'm torn and flayed trying to decide whether TD-1 or Deadwood is the best written TV series of all time. Only my opinion, but unless a work of art asks and/or answers the "scariest" (deepest) ? we have, it doesn't take me by the throat and throttle me. Catharsis in the true sense of the word.

phenomenal show...only season 1 exists in my heart
the theme, the song, the cinematography, directing, acting and phenomenal writing. This is by far the greatest season of a tv show I ever watched. Nothing is close nor will ever come close. This tribute is a masterpiece in itself. Well done

don't think so, i mean its an awesome idea but the bar is set so high that hey would easily fuck it up. I would have gone for a more subtle aproach. Like for example during season 3's early portion of the story, the shady brown car with the black dirver ran over a girl, and we get a brief glimpse of a young Rust rushing towards her daughters corpse.

Your clip editing is great. The music behind it on the other hand is at best distracting, and tonaly off center throughout. It often times took me out of each emotional moment trying to place who was doing what cover.

Marty was a good friend . He was mean yes , but rust was also mean. Sometimes being friends ain't all chilling in the back room playing pool . Sometimes it's just about having each others back in order to fulfill a shared agenda, and I'm the end they did just that.
