Thank you for sharing your knowledge Michael! I'm not a bass player, but sometimes I need to play parts in the studio, and having an HX stomp for electric guitar, this is so useful and versatile!!!
Great job! Thank you so much for all your videos I always look forward to seeing them. I am constantly learning new things about my HX Stomp. This pedal is so useful and versatile. Have a great week Michael!
That’s great except for 1) there are some phase issues while blending pedals in the fx loop, you end up losing bass, 2) if you have to play with an amp you will loose some of your options, because cabinet doesn’t sound good into an amp, and wherever you chose to add a send, you lose some option (either the sansamp or the b15). In an optimal situation this won’t be such a problem, but in an average club you rely on the amp as much as the foh tone...
Hi, your video helps me a lot for starting with the HX stomp, thank you! Your bass sound is great with the flatwound strings. Do you realising any latency when you inserting an fx loop actually? Btw. I wound put the chorus in the sansamp path before the amp out. Modulation fx tending to lose low frequencies…
Hi Michael ive been looking at the HX Stomp Im still fairly new. So what is the chain on the pedal board how does the HX stomp fall in? is it just for effects? I have a board i started working on I have a few pedals so far and heard alot of people using the HX stomp but no ones really said how to tie it all in physically. I want this running into my Mesa Boogie Subway D800.Thanks for any info you can provide.
Have you thought of using the ts808 models instead of using the line out? If you did what settings would you use? I cannot tell what settings you used on your pedal.
Yes you could totally do that, it would take up extra space setting it up in parallel but not hard to do. I’d set gain to taste (for me around 9 o’clock) and run the tone pretty high. (Maybe start around 3/4 of the way up).
Thanks! I’ve had a few folks ask about that and I haven’t really done a head to head on the 808. Typically with drives I’ve preferred the real deal. I’ve compared the King of Tone and Klon models and always prefer the real thing. The models do sound good though but not quite the same
Funny! I used to have a TS on my bass pedal board with a LS-2 to blend it. I'm surprised more don't use it. Out of curiosity, have you tried the TS model on the HX instead of the FX loop? Wonder how close of a tone you'd get to the real TS? Just picked up an HX Stomp and am looking to replace my current rig and pedal board with it. Not 100% sold on that but only having to pack and set up a small pedal board and a bass or two sounds pretty awesome to me.
What about having octaver pedal? Turns out I personnaly prefer the sound of it when the octave is placed right after a TS styled pedal. I.e. right at where your empty slot is in your HX Stomp.
Hey man...so i'm trying to set up my signal chain and I can't see to add a send/return block. The whole section is grayed out. I want to run an external preamp I have into the stomp but won't let me add a block like you did for your TS
Typically if something is grey-ed out it means it’s not an option for some reason typically it’s a lack of processing power (some blocks use more than others depending on the model or effect). In this case I would assume it’s a routing thing. Check and make sure you have those jacks routed properly in the settings to be used as sends/returns. I believe they can be used in different ways so if they aren’t selected as that they won’t be available. (This is all off the top of my head, I’m not in front of my stomp currently)
I'm starting to realize that there are so many people like me. I've been playing guitar since 1992 and have been the guy who took up bass when it was needed many times. Over the years I've fallen in love with bass, but I still have the mind of a guitar player. I learn so much more about bass from guitar players than bass players.
Thanks for the video. I really like the tone you got for bass. Did you try using the Tubescreamer model instead of adding yours into the loop. Are they comparable?
You know, I haven't compared them head to head (don't know why not). A lot of the drives on the HX Stomp do sound great though. The few I have compared head to head aren't quite the same to the real thing... very close but not quite!
If I bypass the blocks in either path that’s basically what is happening so, yes! I think it ended up programming that to a foot switch to be able to go back and forth between the 2.
What other effects are you using on Bass?
EHX Metal Muff
MXR Dyna Comp
I mainly use the darkglass overdrive and the full tone drive with the double tank reverb as my go too on bass sometimes I play around with a delay.
I like running the minotaur in a parallel loop
Sansamp programmable driver di or mxr m80 + and another Drive like boss odb 3 / aftershock and the super fuzz or carcoza fuzz. And a Delay for swells.
Flanger.
Mutant filter and a chorus is great for a synthy hip hop funky sound

I liked a lot. It's a big and full bass tone.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! Glad they have been helpful!
Great video - thanks for making it!
Do you have a video on how your chaining everything on the board and using the stomp in the chain?
That’s great except for 1) there are some phase issues while blending pedals in the fx loop, you end up losing bass, 2) if you have to play with an amp you will loose some of your options, because cabinet doesn’t sound good into an amp, and wherever you chose to add a send, you lose some option (either the sansamp or the b15). Great Video! Looking forward to get my hands on this unit!

Great video 👌🏼
Thanks man! Hope you guys are well!

@@MichaelWWestbrook Thank you Micheal for replying to an old thread, and for all your videos. Keep going brother.
Love the video. Simple & straightforward. Did you try A-B'ing the external TS with the on board HX 808. Curious as to your thoughts.
Thanks! I’ve had a few folks ask about that and I haven’t really done a head to head on the 808. Typically with drives I’ve preferred the real deal. I’ve compared the King of Tone and Klon models and always prefer the real thing. The models do sound good though but not quite the same
Fantastic sounding profile...would you consider making an HX Stomp bass preset available for purchase?
Yeah, I’ll try to put it up on the website tomorrow!
So your Tube screamer is always on and you just press a button on the HX?
Yes!
Ayyyy !
How do you hook up your bass in the inputs for left and right ? Or do you always use just mono hook up ?
Just mono for bass typically
What is the purpose of left and right input
@@audionapster1Stereo would be mainly for guitars, or a more unorthodox/solo bass setup. Typically for reverbs and delays
Hi sounds nice did you put this up for purchase?

Sweet.

I do not have the tube screamer. We can just a tube screamer from the hX correct.
Yes, correct!

Have you tried splitting your signal before the FX loop to keep a clean low end? Then blend it in at the mixer?

Your payment page is not working ?
My mind is spending now!
Great video
