    Here in North Carolina we called the red hot pickles cinnamon pickles. I know they made from the red hot candy but there’s no heat . I love them and years ago I use to make them . We always used the large cucumbers for them . We would cut the seeds out of the ring . Some kinda good eating.

    We have very hard water where I live, and I find that it helps a lot to use distilled water in my pickling brine or syrup along with the lime. It's a lot of work, but they are Sooooo good! Nice video--Thank you

    The Mrs Wages bread and butter that I canned was so good and easy. The batch with pickling cucumbers were very crisp, the other batch with slicing cucumbers were softer.

    Pickling lime is something I haven’t tried, but now I know how to use it. We like crispy pickles best. I’ve tried the ice and water only with mixed results. Thank you for showing me how to use lime as I’m going to try it this year. 🥒
    It seems like Grandma used alum in her pickles, but I don’t remember the method.

    Cut the "blossom end" off of your cucumber. It contains an enzyme that will make your pickles soft.

    The lime is perfect. The trick to crisp pickles is to refrigerate them about 24 hours if you’re pulling them off the shelf

    I left a jar of pickles in my fridge for a Long time...maybe a year or so. When I remembered them, I took them out & 1/2 of the juice(water/vinaigrette) was frozen. They were the most delicious & Crisp pickles I've Ever had!
    When I bought a new jar (plastic, not glass like the last) they were soggy.
    Do I need to let them sit for a year....like the last ones?

      If they are gonna be crisp, they should be when you put them in the jars

    • @scottjkern
      @scottjkern 3 роки тому

      @@CrazyDazes no that way off course. Yes there crisp but get soft in the heat. You can sole them in lime for 12-24 first then rinse 3 times. That for sure is crisp!!! But they have new way with Mrs. wages xtra crisp it’s called. You put it in the jar after pickles are in and then the juice
