Thumbs up for the mini documentary. It's good to see that Turkey has stepped up to international standards on the environment and worker safety. I've seen video of some of the other yards doing this work. Calling them crude is too kind a description.

Safety as an employer is to minimize transition costs: fewer people quitting or who can’t work because of death or injury, and need to scout for and train new workers. It’s win-win.
The ship's clean staff get all that stuff. I knew a guy who cleaned a strip club after hours, wedding rings, money...drugs....he said the rings he'd take to the pawn shop.
Also just to add, Carnival didnt come by this decision simply because of Covid, it had been decided long ago that the Fantasy class ships were not seen as innovative and cost to improve them instead of simply bringing another ship(much larger) into the fold was a better idea! lets get that clear.
Well, if they could get away with sinking it in the middle of the ocean...they would. And it takes so much work to prepare it for ecological safety for sinking as a reef...that it is uneconomic...

I worked in imagination,, 2008
It’s very sad. As a teenager I went on the Australis, it ended up battered to pieces on a beach somewhere. It was an American made ship called the America which proceeded the Ship United States. I have been on a few cruise ships since then, however, the Australis has left its mark on me.

Thumbs up for the mini documentary. It's good to see that Turkey has stepped up to international standards on the environment and worker safety. I've seen video of some of the other yards doing this work. Calling them crude is too kind a description.
So glad they stepped up their safety. Gotta make the business something workers will be proud of and the public see as a good working environment and you'll have an extremely successful company. Saftey can always get better though and I hope you keep trying as the older generation will be proud to have their kids and grandkids to work there
Fantasy was mine. Sad to see now.
Safety as an employer is to minimize transition costs: fewer people quitting or who can’t work because of death or injury, and need to scout for and train new workers. It’s win-win.
@Myke Mynah wonder how much they make off the copper recycling, these ships could have more than 2500 miles worth of wiring going through them.

I'm taking them again next year on the carnival Glory out of new orleans. For his second Cruise. I think I created a monster he loves cruising and he's only 19
@@jonathangodbout6645 My stepson who is 20, has been on 25 cruises. My daughter who is 11 has been on 11 cruises. I work all of the time so I've only done around 10 myself. My wife was a cruise addict before the pandemic. And she is a teacher with a lot of time to take cruises. Check out my Fantasy tribute I posted on my channel several months back.
2:25 oh that hits hard, I served on a ship like that and can recognise where they are.
imagine the ultimate mega "yacht" if you could buy one of these to live in.
It cost a years sallary just to idle around a bay
The Billionaires are paying 200-600M for their yahts, so this would be cheap.
@@rustedratchetgarage6788 if you are the mega rich this wouldn't matter much to them. Look at some of the billionaires who make more in a day than a lot of us do in a lifetime.
@@rancon265 billionaires make money because they're not stupid, having a cruise cost millions upon millions per week while doing NOTHING, Yachts in the other hand can stay on port months while being taken care off by few personnel.
Imagine buying a entire hotel to use it a week but keep it staffed for years just for you and maybe your family instead of just pay some weeks in the luxury suits, yeah they probably can afford it, doesn't mean it makes sense and they're gonna do it. lol
It’s strange seeing inspiration being torn apart for scraps when you’ve been on the ship for cruises in the past

These guys got work for years to come now😭😭overtime like crazy
And their life expectancy have been cut short as well.
@@disguiseddv8ant22 it’s not like their lives have any value to them
To see my first cruise (Cn Fantasy) now in pieces is bittersweet.
It is REALLY sad, heartbreaking and words can't even begin to convey ALL.
These were beautiful, Luxurious ships that so many spent and had wonderful times on.
Such a WASTE to "write it off" cut the losses and abandon ship I guess is fitting.
I know cruises are expensive... but it takes a lot to pay one of these off, pay the help, buy the food, fuel, towels and this list goes forever.
Mind boggling that the answer is cut it up and probably build bigger more expensive... or is it downsize and hold on to what's left.
I really didn't even scratch the surface in the few words above.
Thanks Covid. mthrfckr.
3:38 I could've surf that wave. Bummer!
😂😂😂
Really good reporting.....THANKS.....✨
Hopefully the newer Carnival ships have updated interior designs
No they are still made in countries with no enviormental regulations
You tell funny joke!
Also interesting to note is that these yards are now getting a very good price for steel due to the tariff war between China and Australia combined with Covid-19. Australia is the biggest supplier of iron ore and China is the biggest user. During the pandemic the Chinese government has turned to increase infrastructure investing like they always do during economic downturn in order to stimulate the economy. The supply of iron for China has lessened because of politics between them and Australia therefore recycled steel is a becoming more popular and thus valuable.
Nice video✈️
I've been on both the imagination and inspiration. The imagination was a wild time back in 2006.

Fascinating! Life is truly amazing
Where can I buy the diesel engines removed from those ships? My lawn mower needs an upgrade
No, global warming is continually ruining the enviorment. If anything you should get a lawn mower that runs by hand and no electricity.
my guy wants to mow his entire neighborhood in two seconds lol
Youre about to mow your country my guy
The engine is probably the size of your backyard
@@insectbite1714 no thanks. I too need to mowy lawn in 1 second.
one of the ships in this video is Costa Victoria, I used to work on that ship in 1997 and 1998 when it was brand new, very sad and weird feeling seeing her there
I just can't wrap my head around scrapping good ships, especially of that size.
@@mikewillett5076 they are not worth the money it takes to repurpose them. There are thousands of them, they’re not that special
@@fart63 . I know it's expensive just to keep a big ship afloat, but you're saying it costs more money to repurpose a cruise ship than it is to build a new one? If they're structurally sound why not keep them in service instead of building new ones? Or are a lot less people taking cruises lately?
The amount of scrap! Omg... I used to work in a bar mill, and we'd throw the scrap in a giant hopper-like thing, that turns out to be the bed of a dump truck, and the truck would back into the this hopper, and start pulling it up, and the front end would pop up in the air, do you're just watching this dump truck do a standing wheely. Pretty impressive, to me. When I started there, I had no prior work experience, so.
Because of the economic crisis and the rate of unemployment now is the best time to invest and make money 💯
