    I never realized how important it was not to swallow the vowel sound before the R sound until I this video. No wonder I sounded so mussy all of the times I pronounced R that position at the end of a word. Now I can pronounce CAR confidently with American R. This is the most useful R pronunciation I watched. It is awesome and many thanks.

    Great lesson for us non-natives, Keenyn. Wish you'd been more detailed on this sound + flap T as in "party", "forty", "Morty". Not the easiest combination 🙃

    • @ClearEnglishCorner
      @ClearEnglishCorner  6 років тому +1

      Awesome Oleksandr Fomin! So glad you found the lesson helpful! 🤗🤗🤗 That Flap T after the Vocalic Rs can be tricky. Try to really slow down as you practice, like your moving in slow motion or underwater, and let your mouth move through one sound at a time /p/+/ar/+/d/+/i/, /f/+/or/+/d/+/i/, then speed it back up as your mouth gets the hang of it!

    This is my favorite English channel now. These videos have been so useful for me. You explained them so clearly and with great examples. Thank you so much. Also, no disrespect intended, but you are gorgeous. You're eyes are so expressive and your gestures so charming that you definitely make it easier to learn. Although, I must confess that I got a little distracted a couple times because of your charm. The least original comment ever, I know, but I mean it. Could you make a video on the difference between the /s/ and the /z/ sounds, please? I know there are a lot of rules and exceptions, and it makes it so hard to get. Thanks for all your great content!

    I feel there is something more to it, native speakers have a kind of ongoing "fry", like if a part of the sound "R" was bleeding all over : example when around the 30s mark she pronounced the word "sound", there was a kind of "purring" going on, and I feel that's the real key to pronounce a proper "R". It feels like native speakers already are in the right mouth/tongue/throat configuration to say "R", only shunted when there is a kind of strong consonants (like N, S or Z), otherwise it feels like there is an engine constantly running, overlapping vowels.
    This is the really tricky part to emulate. It's the whole voice that has to be different. I cannot speak English with my French voice. It's like the mechanics of it are totally different.
    Probably related to this, French people that spent years in America end up speaking weird French, their accent and voice placement are distorted, they sound like a foreigner.
    Any advice ?

    The secret to learning R is: you need to keep your jaw and lips still because the tongue needs to do the movement.
