Inside Norway's $47 Billion Floating Highway
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 сер 2020
- The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is in the process of creating the world’s first floating highway. The Coastal Highway Route E39 will cut down a 21 hour travel time between the Norwegian cities of Kristiansand in the south and Trondheim in the north by at least half through the elimination of seven different ferry crossings. These crossings will be replaced with bridges, tunnels, and the innovative new Submerged Floating Tube Bridges which give the Coastal road its nickname. But Norway has its work cut out for it, as a project of this size and scale with the use of the floating tunnels has yet to be completed anywhere else in the world-- and attempting the historic roadway project will cost more than $47 billion.
With many fjords to safely traverse, the project is getting help from Universities, researchers and engineers all over the country. Though the project isn’t expected to be completed until 2050, they’ve already got a head start on constructing their first floating tunnel called the Rogaland Fixed Link or Rogfast. While the construction has allowed them to work out some kinks, it’s also cost $2 billion so far-- and that budget is growing. Norway aims to maintain its pristine natural beauty with these hidden highways, but first they have to figure out how travelers can remain safe at 150 feet underwater. Check out our video for all the details on this innovative new highway-- and how the rest of the world may soon follow in Norway’s footsteps.

Apparently Italy and China can too, I'm sure all countries could if they had the money

From the perspective of someone playing Simcity or Civilization, this is obviously really fascinating and exciting. From the perspective of someone who's terrified of drowning or being trapped underwater, I'd be more than a little anxious that something terrible happened (e.g., natural disaster, terrorist attack) causing me to die a watery grave.
you need to play Subnautica. And if you intend to do, do yourself a favor and never look anything up about that game. If you look it up you'll spoil 50% of its magic. Many players - myself included - wish to get their memory wiped out so they can experience the wonders of that underwater-y game all over again. I don't guarantee that you'll cure your water phobias after playing the game, but you will definitely look at the oceans differently :)

The 1.1 km long Opera tunnel in Oslo is a 4 lane floating uderwater highway across part of the city harbour. It has been in operation since 2010 and transports around 80.000 cars and trucks daily.
Wow this is beautiful...bigups Norway
Good idea but scaring
in fact, it's the opposite of beautiful, but what ever
If I see a little water drop, IM DRIVING TOP SPEED OUT OF THERE
🤣
water inside a tunnel can be pretty normal :D
There will always be little water, but that is pumped out.
We have quite few underwater tunnels, thy all take in water, Th Atlantic Sea Tunnel in Kristiansund takes in 89 tons of water every minute, but it is pumped out. If the pump fails, yhe nest pump starts, if that fails, the third pump starts.
Don't worry no one said in the vid that it is china made 😂😂😂😂
Everybody gangsta till there is a huge traffic jam and you can’t get out.😃
The reason why it's very hard to build bridges across some fjords is that they can be extremely deep (Sognefjord is 1300 meters deep).
There goes the wild places!
The scenic version for me, thanks! LOL
sounds good but once those waves get rough and the sea pushes the concrete tunnel, bear in mind that concrete is only good in compression and not torsion or swaying, its going to be a big big problem. I doubt a buoyant float or some cables will stop it from flexing in the ocean unless there is some new type of concrete that is flexible and I don't think that will ever be possible lol.
Wow..must see this next I visit.
Intriguing indeed!
I live in Norway, and the 8 hours trip to my cabin will now take 4 hours ish :D
wouldn't it be a lot more beautiful if it was a normal highway at the surface ? that would have cost 4 times cheaper too.
