  • Norway's $47 Billion Floating Highway
Norway’s coastline is unlike anywhere else on Earth. It is a land of soaring cliffs and plunging fjords. These breath-taking fjords attract tens of thousands of visitors every year who want to witness the magical spectacle.
But, for the Norwegian’s themselves, the fjords and rugged coastline present something of an obstacle. Indeed, travelling up the coast - where around a third of Norwegians live - is quite a challenge, with roads torturously weaving and winding their way between the towns and cities.
Now Norway has a plan to fix its infrastructure problem. The new E39 highway will stretch from Trondheim in the north to Kristiansand in the south, taking its place alongside other monumental roads like Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway.
In this video, we’ll explore this awe-inspiring megaproject, finding out just how the staggering $47 billion is being spent. Welcome back to our channel, If you haven’t already, make sure to hit that subscribe button and ring the bell, so that you get notified every time we upload a new video!

1:54 That's wrong. There is a continuous road going from Kristiansand to Norway: E18/E6, going inland via Oslo. But that's not the point of making E39 ferry-free; the point is to connect all the cities and towns along the western coast of Norway. Even after completing all the fjord crossings, E18/E6 would still be a faster route between Kristiansand and Trondheim.

It sounds fantastic and I would want to travel on this floating highway after it is completed in 2026 or 2030.

The video started out okay, but from around 2:50 it's just a repeating mess of more or less random videos that have nothing to do with what is being said.

Humber Bridge is 2,200 meters long and gets buffeted by the winds from the North sea. I'm faily sure a bridge over the sognefjord crossing could manage.

For some reason this arrived in my feed. So, I just want to say that many of these "plans" are just suggestions that very few people think ever will be realized. And ... $47 Billion? I guess that estimate can be doubled. As usual.

parts of it are under construction already; Btw quite a few large scale construction projects in Norway were finished within the expected time span and kept within estimated budget

@@thegreatmindgorb8948 A few parts, yes. If work does continue, the Boknafjorden crossing north of Stavanger could open in 2031-33. The other main crossings: Many daring plans, few if any final decisions. BTW: I’m Norwegian, living on the west coast. These projects are extremely expensive and the tolls will be MASSIVE. A lot of people would rather see the present, often very bad roads being upgraded to safer standards, and - important - protected against landslides.

But with the pontoon bridge, what if a ship loses control and hit the pontoon and tears the tunnel.

Then the hitten pontoons will break at their deliberate weakest point. Many pontoons may break before the bridge breaks.

Went to the store with tires to find out there were 10 people in one day with day same problem that came to get new tires from driving on this one street!!!

That's dumb, build a high speed rail, cars are inefficient and unsustainable. There should be roads for cars and buses, but they should be literally the lowest priority and last right of way.
