When Al Davis relocate his Raiders back to Oakland back in 1995 I really thought they will stay in Oakland forever but I hope that the City of Oakland get a NFL expansion team in the future.
The NFL will never come back to Oakland. The city isnt financially stable to support an NFL Team. The bay area dont need 2 teams. Unless Oakland is willing to build a 2-3 Billion dollar + stadium (which they wont), The NFL will return to Oakland. Also, the NFL most likely wont expand past 32 teams.
@@atlnl3964I don't know what you were talking about but the oakland alameda county coliseum opened in 1966, and the raiders played there from 1966-1981, and every game was sold out, and then al Davis wanted upgrades done at the coliseum and the city wouldn't do it so he moved the team to los angeles after the 1981 season. During the 13 seasons they played at the LA memorial coliseum attendance was mostly bad with exception of a few seasons. Capacity was nearly 100 thousand. He asked for upgrades at that stadium also, and the city of los angeles said no. He wanted to build at Hollywood Park. The answer was no. He wanted to move to irvingdale. The answer was no. So after a 1989 preseason game played at the oakland alameda county coliseum drew a great response from fans and city and league officials it was decided that upgrades would be done to the oakland coliseum and the team would return in time for the 1995 season. But Davis made things complicated when he decided to sell the majority of the seats as "PSL'S" Personal seat licenses. And they were very expensive so after "mount Davis" was completed the stadium could sellout the first nearly 10 seasons back in oakland. Plus the renovation gave the stadium a strange and ugly look, therefore creating conflicts with the A's, because you could no longer see the beautiful oakland hills in the background. Before the renovations the coliseum was considered one of the best places to watch a baseball game. In the meantime the raiders in order to fill the stadium, done away with the personal seat licenses and reduced attendance Capacity and the stadium started selling out again. But the bay area could absolutely support two teams. I have a question for you. Why do you think the san francisco 49ers play almost 50 miles from San Francisco in Santa Clara? Why wouldn't san francisco build them a stadium to replace candle stick park?
Welcome home, Los Angeles Rams!!! Thank you, Stan Kroenke. We'll see what future the Raiders have in Oakland or if the Chargers decide to stay in San Diego if that means Mark Davis moves to Inglewood,CA to be Stan Kroenke's tenant. Mark Davis told Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News there was a deal in place for the 2016 season for the Raiders to play at the StubHub Center in Carson,CA has they been approved to move to L.A. with the Chargers. We'll see what happens, but I'll be at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum rooting on our Los Angeles Rams.
I agree with you Mediterranean Warrior, the Lambs couldn't even pack the L.A. Memorial Coliseum even when they had a winning season last season. I see more football fans wearing Raiders gear in L.A. than the Lambs gear. It was a terrible business move by the NFL in blocking the Raiders from returning to L.A. The Rams and the Chargers could have stayed in their respective cities and all the NFL had to do was to allow the MIGHTY RAIDERS to return to L.A. in order to revive football in L.A. The Chargers are not able to pack the Stub Hub Center in Carson with 17,000 seat capacity. How are the Chargers going to pack the future Rams' stadium in Inglewood with capacity for 80,000 fans? I see the Chargers returning to San Diego and Stan Kroenke and the NFL regretting from blocking the Raiders from returning to L.A.
I was 10 years old then and honestly the Raiders havent been the same since Al Davis passed. A lot of UA-cam channels and go-Raiders type hype but Al Davis was the Raiders- that and some great players and fans.
My thoughts exactly. Just like when Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore, Davis should have been legally compelled to leave the Raiders' history, records, and intellectual property in Oakland, and to allow for his L.A. team to be officially classified as an "expansion" team. That means new jerseys and a new name -- e.g. the Los Angeles Pirates.
Oakland lied to AL Davis about a new stadium that is ONLY reason he moved them back. Now yet again Oakland is losing the Raiders because the city refuses to do what is right. I dont care where they go, its RAIDERS4LIFE!!!!
There's a lot to be said for tradition; this is one thing that Americans don't respect. You'd NEVER get a team like Liverpool moving to London for instance. Mark Davis made a 'business decision' by relocating to Vegas, but will end up shooting himself in the foot; he should have worked harder with the city of Oakland to actually extend the Colosseum and it's facilities.
The Raiders returned to Oakland in 95 but they were still using KCAL 9 graphics for their preseason games, same ones used for Laker games from the same timeframe...
I went to the Raiders/Eagles that year when the stadium had the field going from home plate to center field, as opposed to 3rd base to 1st base, as it is now. It was awesome. It was like bull ring out there. Just a big circle with a football field in the middle. Eagles were up 17-0, then I believe Beikert knocked the ball out of Ricky Waters' hands. Raiders took over, scored on that drive, eventually came back and blew them out. What a day.
