Fellow South African here! I'll be leaving China later this year to move back to South Africa where my husband is at the moment. I can not wait to see Cape Town again because I absolutely love it there but I completely understand your decision for having your baby in the US. I came here at age 21 right after College and worked continuously for 40 yrs. in California.
America gave me such a wonderful life. My accountant said that I had put in $1.2 million in payroll and social security taxes over the years. I was so thrilled to know that I am able to contribute to this BEAUTIFUL AMERICA and Amazing Diversity of people.

When I worked for the CBP, the anchor babies were coming here on B1b2 visas. The long term work visas such as what you are here on, be it L1, H1B, even O1, those are simply viewed as being part of life, and not the main purpose of the trip.
Definitely a difference in a baby being born to someone who wants to be a part of the culture of the country and lives, works, and pays taxes versus someone who is trying to take advantage of the system and do illegal activity. Glad you and your family are safe!

She was considered a pre-existing “condition” to an insurance company I purchased before hand but wouldn’t cover her prenatal visits. Definite failure that affects us all.

I’ve heard horrible stories of women having unneeded hysterectomies after babies in China because it’s easier on the doctors .

Births by Cesarean section are easier on the doctors for these reasons - births can be planned to the physician's convenience and shortens the time the physician must attend (he/she doesn't have to wait through hours of the mother progressing through labor). Hysterectomies do, however, result from complications that arise from Cesarean section. I hope that helps.
Keep in mind that lots of female fetuses are still being aborted in China for their gender.

Soon i woke up and realized what was going in. I left that relationship so fast. To this day i am traumatized. I was just a tool.

Me, an American in Australia: So true. If only it weren’t so expensive or my Aussie half would have us in the states due to our own safety concerns.
As far as anchor baby, it’s only a thing if you went to America with the intention to have a baby to stay in the country. I have had similar slurs on me by my in laws (who my hubby cut ties with due to their dangerous actions) but me coming to Australia.. it wasn’t my original intention to stay we didn’t sort out proper visa till a few weeks before our kid was due. Heck I didn’t even sort out paper work till end of eight months... international relationships are weird and for anyone who wants to hate on anyone we are in a way vulnerable to that because of their ignorance and hate towards others.

what you did is not health tourism you even paid for the birth, in the UK people come over have triplets fly home and pay nothing it costs the UK 3 billion a year
Same as Canada. Recently had an exchange with someone who had come to visit from a West African country and “decided” to stay for 6 months and have her baby in Canada. The baby needed to be in the NICU for quite a while. The woman kept insisting that she paid her bills but she still had 300k fees from the NICU stay that she couldn’t pay. It is really becoming a huge problem so hopefully the legislation will change soon. 1/4 of the births in one hospital were Chinese birth tourism babies. Some Canadians have to go to other hospitals because the rooms are full.
Consider getting a job. My wife works at a hospital and the insurance is 600 per month with a 500 deductible. Obamacare is worthless.
