Governor: "You kill or you die, or you die and you kill."
For many reasons we expected a huge battle and it didn't happen. In our heads, it was going to be lots of death, leave the prison, back on the road with an even smaller group...
But we think that's the strength of the writers, now we have a whole new path opened which is totally unknown.
One of the best scenes, or at least a scene that raises again moral questions, was Rick and Carl. After all he's been through at such a young age, can we blame Carl for seeing things the way he does?
And finally a small disappointement on how Andrea died but we find a little comfort that we didn't see a governor torture scene...
We appreciate guys all your support, so don't forget to hit that subscribe button, it really motivates us to keep up the content.

On Talking Dead (live talk show about TWD aired after the episode) in the old days they have a question and at the end they show the results of it. The question for this one was should have Carl killed that Woodbury guy? The results were 50/50 and it broke a lot of peoples faith in humanity

Dale and Andrea were written out of the series because of disagreements and disputes with the producer. After this season, he was fired. An unpleasant, stupidly written ending for Andrea. Everything felt stupid and out of character as far as Andrea was concerned. In the comic, she lives until the end and even she comes together with Rick.

Rob, just an FYI ...the SS symbol on the petrol tank does not mean Merle was a bigot. Nazi iconography was (and still is) used among some 1%ers (Hells Angels and other MC clubs) as the equivalent of flipping the middle finger to middle class America. The bike is a chopped vintage Triumph Scrambler, a classic Hells Angels bike and the SS symbol does not indicate racism or bigotry, it's simply an anti-establishment shock icon, popular among bikers in the 50's (just 5 years post WWII). It's symbolism is still understood among bikers, but perhaps it's less relevant 80 years after the war ...although they might argue it has had the desired effect on you mate. ;) :D
Other Nazi icons are used too, the skull and crossbones is actually part of the HE logo. In Merle's case, is doesnt tell us anything about him or his politics, other than he was a member of a Motorcycle Club that took itself seriously. Remember, in the 50's-70's the Nazi icons were not synonymous with racism ...they were just understood to be symbols of terror and that is why they were used by bikers who wanted to display their contempt for middle class America.
Merle may or may not be an ignorant, raging bigot ...but it has nothing to do with his bike. The show writers knew the icon would be understood by most Americans. Swastikas, Iron Crosses, German helmets etc were all popular Hells Angels paraphernalia in Merle's era.

Andrea's death was made at the last minute, the writer wanted an impactful death and threw the character into the fire. I still think it DOES in fact actually fit quite well with what we see of Andrea this entire season, where she keeps hesitating in the most important moments. That even in her final moments, she keeps hesitating for one reason or another. It's even been a part of her character from day one, hesitation, doubt, wanting to just straight up kill herself. I just think it's the price she paid for never truly learning to get over that and be more decisive. And then the few moments where she WAS more decisive, it was her wanting to die. Or her shooting Daryl.
I also think that you should really take a closer look at Carl, because I strongly feel like he's losing it. His way of looking at things at this point, if you'd do that, you might as well ask yourself: "Why not just kill everyone?" because that is basically what he's saying. The kid was lowering his weapon slowly, because that's what you do, to show that you're not making any sudden moves and that your weapon is clearly visible. Nto to mention the kid was absolutely bricking it with how terrified he was. He surrendered clearly though and Carl shot him and showed literally zero remorse for it whatsoever. He even seemed proud of it.
I'm still REALLY loving the reactions. I just wanted to give my take on it, especially without going into any spoilers or whatever of course.

I agree. The boy was holding his hands up in surrender. And was handing the gun over to Herschel. If he tried anything Carl would have shit him, he wasnt gonna take that chance. He was scared. And I'm pretty sure that was the boy that Karen stood up for. The kids were following orders. They weren't trained. He was running away.....he didn't want to be there.

the non-cliffhanger is actually more of a 'what will happen next' type ending than the traditional cliffhanger. because it leaves you with no clue as to what is coming. a sort of 'turn the page' type ending. basically expanding the TWD universe. good job guys. I remember being disappointed with the fight scene in this episode but the big cliff hanger is the fact that the Governor is still alive and everyone at the time was pretty sure we hadn't seen the last of him. The summer speculation was what would the Governor do next in response to his loss. One strength of the show is they don't completely follow the predictable mid season and finale formulas by always putting biggest cliff hangers or deaths. Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing cliff hangers to come in finales but they also slip sometimes more powerful shows in on non finales. Like they did with Lori:s death. You still expect something powerful on the finale but sometimes it seems like a set-up for the next season.

ALSO, I want to voice my opinion on Carl gunning down one of the Governor's people. He was told to drop the gun, and instead inched toward them and slowly started to point it downwards towards Carl and Hershel, it's very subtle, but it's there. Regardless, he was told to drop the gun. I will point out that he DID look scared, but there was also something in his eyes that told me otherwise, and you can see in one of the camera views up until the kill, that the gun is slowly being turned towards Carl. He could have easily dropped in a second, but refused.

hi guys, great reaction 😊 on to season 4 now 😁regarding your question on how Andrea couldn't handle walker Milton when she's proven quite capable, here's my thoughts:
    1. She's been tied to that chair for who knows how long? hours? maybe a day or two? Imagine being chained to a chair without being able to stretch, walk or eat drink (I'm sure she was given the bare minimum to survive). her energy levels/reflexes will be way off.
    2. Milton just turned, it's not really touched on in the show directly but walkers that just turned still have muscle and tissue so are faster, more energetic and overall more dangerous than walkers that have been rotting away for a while.
    3. The writers wanted her to die so no plot armor 🤣

After re-watching this show, I realized what Lori represents - she represents paranoia/ being dependent on your family.
Lori's "ghost" always appeared when Rick was making decisions based on paranoia about losing more people - kicking out Tyreese's group, potentially giving up Michonne. These are decisions that Shane would have made, because Shane never cared about anyone other than Lori and Carl. If the whole group of survivors had to die to save Carl/Lori, Shane would have made it happen. That was always the difference between Rick and Shane, and the reason why Lori came between them. Lori always had to share Rick with other people, whereas she had Shane all to herself. She needed someone who would put her first. The problem is, Lori loved Rick. If Lori had chosen Shane, she would probably have lived. But they would probably be alone in the forest somewhere on borrowed time, with limited resources and enemies everywhere. You need a group to survive in this world, and Shane is not a leader. Rick is the opposite - he's a leader/protector of humanity as a whole. Lori and Carl were his priority, but not at the expense of the group. Ultimately, Lori was too dependent on Rick and she needed to realize that Rick would never give up his humanity for her.

I still miss Andrea she was never meant to die in the finale the showrunner Glenn Mazzara who obviously didn’t know what to do with her just decided to kill her off for shock value which I thought was a dumb idea I was happy they fired him for that the actress Laurie Holden admitted that she hated how they wrote her character in Season 3 plus she admitted what happened with Andrea’s death behind the scenes she is still alive in the comics at this point and Andrea and Rick end up together in the comics Andrea was originally gonna make it to Season 8 but sadly what happened behind the scenes towards the end of this Season prevented that from happening today I still think killing her off was an awful decision and still to this day I still miss Andrea.

Andrea is a controversial character . the fact that she didn’t see the dark side of the governor is all about what she went through (Amy death, her desire of end her life, dale) he was like her last hope(I do not excuse the fact that she left behind her friend that saved her life) but she tried her best . Originally Andrea was going to survive this finale and end up being the new leader of Woodbury. Since the actress had already signed on for a 7 season contract and her character was a big name in the comics, later becoming Rick's wife and Carl's step mother, the fans assumed she would be fine. But then Glen Mazzara, the showrunner for half of Season 2 and Season 3 decided to kill her off literally just for the shock factor at the last minute of production, preventing any redemption of her character in the eyes of the fans and it ended up being part of the reason why he was then fired from the show/left. It was also reported that he clashed creatively with the comic's creator Robert Kirkman who is also an executive producer for the series.

Andreas death was apprently VERY last minute. She was supposed to survive but the showrunner killed her last minute and I remember the acress and some folks behind the scenes not being happy. The show really screwed up the character but more than that, they didn't exactly respect the actress.
Funnily enough, the showrunner was replaced for season 4, with a showrunner who wrote some of the best episodes of seasons 2 and 3 and went on to helm seasons a lot of fans like quite a bit, for awhile at least.
"Well I had an 8 year deal, I was supposed to be there until the end. I was supposed to end up with Rick. I was supposed to save Woodbury on a horse, and I was buying a house in Atlanta. I got the call at 10 o’ clock the night before, while I was shooting, from the show runner who is no longer a part of The Walking Dead, saying that they couldn’t write the episode and that he was killing my character. So we all got the script everybody on the set was sobbing. I felt like I got shot. None of it was supposed to happen the way it did."

I don't see when Andrea showed any good intuition this season or the previous... she fell for Shane, then after spending several months with Michonne who saved her life, she gives up on her immediately after meeting the Governor, even though Michonne tells her he is a bad guy and Merle works for him, then she stays with the Governor after she finds out that her old friends are fighting against him, after finding out that Shane is dead, her intuition tells her that Rick is bad, she doesn't kill the Governor when she has the chance, she tries to negotiate peace, even though it would be clear to anyone with a good intuition that that's not possible, then she doesn't kill him again, then she has long conversations with a person that is about to turn to a walker and dies because of it

Also, when you say the writers "fucked her character"
The actress had an 8 season contract with the show, but they wanted to use her death as a major shock for the season finale. Thus the akward writing for her character, as they adjusted her story arc from what it was, to inevitably dying in the finale here. In the comic she goes on for quite along while longer and has a rather large story, so naturally people were quite upset when she died.

When this first aired, most fans were not sad that Andrea bit the dust. To this day, she is the most disliked character of the good guys. A lot of shows have the "stupid character", someone who at every turn makes the wrong decision. After the CDC, when did Andrea make the right decision....almost never. Blamed Dale for her living, shot Darrell, slept with Shane and didn't see his dangerous side, believed in Woodbury, believed in the Gov., had a chance to take him out twice and didn't, blamed Rick and the gang for some of the trouble. I wasn't sad to see her go.

  • @chrispalmer7893

For me that's a finale that aged well. There was a lot of disappointment at the time with everyone saying the assault on the prison was too quick and the absence of a clear cliffhanger was the cause of much criticism (a complaint that will seem hugely ironic sometime down the line), but watching it years later I don't feel any of that. For a start, it feels weird to complain about the lack of action in an episode that must have one of the largest body counts of any in the show. Andrea gets the tragic end that's been coming ever since she got separated from the group when the farm fell, the Governor turns out to be more of a threat to his own people than to ours and we're going to have to keep an eye on Carl because Hershel's concerns are not unreasonable. I particularly like how they handled that - by seeing Carl take the shot without the kid he killed in the frame we can't know for sure whether Hershel is right. Did he Carl see movement that gave him a reason to shoot?
I will say, in relation to Andrea's struggle with the pliers, I can see how it feels like we feel the heavy hand of the writers there, but to be fair to Andrea we don't know how long she's been in that chair. At least overnight, surely. I'm assuming the Governor hasn't fed her or given her water. And before that she came from a harrowing chase across the unknown number of miles between Woodbury and the prison (it seems unlikely she got any sleep in the boot (trunk) of Phil's car on the way back to Woodbury). Plus, even at that stage, it's still not easy to watch someone you once trusted (loved?) murder a friend of yours in cold blood, or to sit with that friend as they slowly bleed to death. Plenty of reason for her not to be on her full game. (I remember on the original airing the large number of people who were convinced had they been in her place they'd have easily grabbed those pliers and been out of there in no time. it seemed to me then - and still does now - that there is a lack of empathy and a great deal of over-confidence in that belief. The questions are always harder when you're under the lights and the camera is rolling...)

To actress Laurie Holden's disappointment, the show runners did not go with the comic book version.
