Continuum had great songs but the production on Battle Studies was better, in my opinion - think Where The Light Is (live album) overshadows some of the recordings on Continuum for me
+Kyle Joyce where the light is is easily my favorite album. I know it's a live concert recording but It's just flawless. But I'd have to say Continuum was his best studio album. I also still am a sucker for room for squares.
+Uros Ogrizovic I'd have to agree with you on that. I originally didn't like the album much, but all the songs sound so much better acoustic/solo. For example, I like the Hotel Cafe version of Heartbreak Warfare soooo much better than the studio version. The album felt a little processed at times. Still great songs at the end of the day
@Jazzy Jones I think he was going for an American pop classic album. So I think the feeling of it being dragged out is kind of natural. I liked the album for what it is, a rock/pop album.
An all-acoustic 'Battle Studies' would be an exceptional record. Agree with a lot of the comments here that songs were overproduced which can sometimes mask the awesomeness and emotion in Mayer's songwriting.
I remember listening this to in my senior year of high school . Right when I lost a family member , a girlfriend , friends and I had developed an increasing amount of depression that just tied me up . And man I GOTTA say this fucking song pulled me through . Wether I was in the car on my way to school , after class , in the cafeteria ,at lunch , or just sat by myself I listened to this on repeat and got damn it I'll listen to this song whenever I want to I fucking love you John and just ... Thank-you . Thank-you so much .
Its a great record. I have listened to it on many road trips and it's one to listen to closely. Solid lyrics, matching music to the mood - well written. Like it a lot.
I haven' t seen a new good artist to fill completely my taste like John Mayer. Nao tenho visto um novo artista preencher completamente meu gosto como John Mayer.
If you have ever experienced anxiety you know this song is a perfect discription of the feeling. I listen to it every time I feel that panic chasing me and I just can't get away from myself!!!! Thank you for making it aware I am not alone!!!!
God I love the mood this song brings into the room. I could laugh or cry from it if I wanted. Cool cloudy calm morning, warm espresso and this on the speakers. I wish I could be stuck in these 4 minutes for eternity
Before he made it big he was a local favorite of mine. When I ordered his first cd he literally sent them out himself. He lost me with the band and over production later on. But John acoustic is raw and beautiful and hits my heart. I am a fan again. Not to be overdramatic but his music feeds my soul.
Come out angels Come out ghosts Come out darkness Bring everyone you know I'm not running And I'm not scared I am waiting and well prepared I'm in the war of my life At the door of my life Out of time and there's no where to run away I've got a hammer And a heart of glass I got to know right now Which walls to smash I got a pocket Got no pills If fear hasn't killed me yet Then nothing will All the suffering And all the pain Never left a name, oh I'm in the war of my life At the door of my life Out of time and there's nowhere to run I'm in the war of my life At the core of my life Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done No more suffering No more pain Never again I'm in the war of my life At the door of my life Out of time and there's no where to run I'm in the war of my life I'm at the core of my life Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done So fight on (I won't give up) Fight on everyone, (I won't run) Fight on (I won't stop for anyone) Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done Fight on (I won't give up) Fight on everyone (I won't run) Fight on (I won't stop for anyone Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done So fight on (I won't give up) Fight on
I love battle studies, since my hometown i grew up in had a problem with internet, i dont even know any of his songs until i hear Friends, Lover and Nothing on local city radio. Had to googled the lyric just to know who artist are.
Imo, this has a lot more heart than any of his new songs that he played at hotel cafe the other night. This feels like John Mayer trying to be himself more than ever. His new songs just feel like he wishes he were Bob Dylan.
This song is so beautiful to me, it makes me cry. It takes me back to a beautiful time of my life when this album first came out, driving around my old college town and seeing my friends, everything felt so open and fresh. It also spoke to so strongly to my life, to my challenges, to a great spirit I wanted to have. This song made my life come alive.
, I am not running I am not scared I am waiting and I'm well prepared 🌞 love this song thanks for sharing it⚘ no more suffering no more pain never again 😄 so fight on fight on everyone ❤❤❤
@JonMichael1087 Hey just wanna say thankyou for this comment just because i experienced this song in pretty much the exact same way. Finishing high school, driving in my car with friends, cruising down to the beach, windows open - fresh free spirit. So yeah...nice to hear someone else having a similar experience =)
That falsetto on "no" when he sings I got a pocket, got no pills. That is just great, his songwriting is great. I want to know his secret because he continues to write hits
Agreed. Dave and Tim, Sarah B., Coldplay are all in this very same class imo. John is the single most talented **guitarist/songwriter (take the two together) Ive seen in my personal experience though. Of course Im probably biased but thats why we have opinions.
sometimes being different is cause for criticism, or envy, people dont want to see you score, everyone have their own war of life. i want to be musician ..im in war
after hearing more than half of Battle Studies in acoustic, I felt like he over dubbed and over produce the entire Battle Studies album. these acoustic versions are more stripped down but alot more intimate, kinda feels like he captured these feelings and emotions alot better on these acoustic versions. but the album version are good for his live shows.
Wasn't this about the time he was just coming back from his vocal cord surgery and all the problems he had? It took him awhile to get his voice back to full-strength. May 1, 2019

This is an underrated song on an underrated album. Probably really overlooked because of how great continuum was.

indeed
Hi Mom It's such a good song. John said it was his "worst song" in an interview. This song is better some people's good ones lol
Strange u say that cuz this is my favorite album!!!!
I hate how people say battle studies wasn't one of best albums, they don't know anything.
+Uros Ogrizovic I'd have to agree with you on that. I originally didn't like the album much, but all the songs sound so much better acoustic/solo. yup. It was an overproduced album in my opinion. Thats why the live/acoustic versions are out of this world better than studio.
@Jazzy Jones I think he was going for an American pop classic album. So I think the feeling of it being dragged out is kind of natural. I liked the album for what it is, a rock/pop album.
Just for edge of desire it should be his best work 👍

Gay
Love it!!!
But I thought that all the suffering and all the pain never left a name?
Did you do it?
John Mayer is delivering a powerful message with this tune. Displaying more of his undisputable awesomeness. Love it. Love him
Absolutely correct
Its a great record. I have listened to it on many road trips and it's one to listen to closely. Solid lyrics, matching music to the mood - well written. Like it a lot.
I haven' t seen a new good artist to fill completely my taste like John Mayer.

Tem um gosto especial, Dona Teresa

you know how great a musician someone is when they can both preform with a band, and also sit with and acoustic and sound like the whole band...
Come out angels
Come out ghosts
Come out darkness
Bring everyone you know
I'm not running
And I'm not scared
I am waiting and well prepared
I'm in the war of my life
At the door of my life
Out of time and there's no where to run away
I've got a hammer
And a heart of glass
I got to know right now
Which walls to smash
I got a pocket
Got no pills
If fear hasn't killed me yet

All the suffering
And all the pain
Never left a name, oh
I'm in the war of my life
At the door of my life
Out of time and there's nowhere to run
I'm in the war of my life
At the core of my life
Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done
No more suffering
No more pain
Never again
I'm in the war of my life
At the door of my life
Out of time and there's no where to run
I'm in the war of my life
I'm at the core of my life
Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done
So fight on (I won't give up)
Fight on everyone, (I won't run)
Fight on (I won't stop for anyone)
Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done
Fight on (I won't give up)
Fight on everyone (I won't run)
Fight on (I won't stop for anyone
Got no choice but to fight 'till it's done
So fight on (I won't give up)
Fight on
All the suffering and all the pain! Never left a name!
First time hearing this tune; 😮! Way to go John Mayer. He never disappoints.
I burned this song out when it came out.....now, years later, it's really speaking to me!
Just fell in love with this song! Simple, bright, feels good
Battle studies was his best album. Period.
I love battle studies, since my hometown i grew up in had a problem with internet, i dont even know any of his songs until i hear Friends, Lover and Nothing on local city radio. Had to googled the lyric just to know who artist are.
Damn this song was amazing, and has has deep meaning to me

I love his acoustic translations even more than his studio versions.
For real. There are TONS of great musicians out there that just need to be found.
The sound of his music makes my soul relaxed and joyful - kind of like a really good drug (with no bad side effects). I love every fiber of his being.
He is one of the only musicians who sounds better alone and unplugged than he does in studio. ♥JM
I love him so much.
OMG. This made me feel like writing a song RIGHT AWAY.
no comparison between this n the studio version,, m in LOVE with this
, I am not running I am not scared I am waiting and I'm well prepared 🌞 love this song thanks for sharing it⚘ no more suffering no more pain never again 😄 so fight on fight on everyone ❤❤❤
