  • Finally… a saurolophine hadrosaur!
    Maiasaura is one I’ve known for a long time, but didn’t have a single model of because I stupidly gave my Carnegie away. This one by Haolonggood is a beautiful piece of work. Save for one obvious inaccuracy, and being a little small in size, this one is as close to the perfect hadrosaur HLG has rendered!

    Hi, Greek speaker here and a dinosaur palaeontologist. Great video and informative, as always. It is not pronounced as 'Maya-saura' but as 'Mea-saura'. The 'e' is like the first 'a' in the word 'anyway', if that helps. Also, if you are interested to know, in Greek we pronounce the second part of the name as 'savra' where both 'a' are pronounced like the 'a' in 'rhamphotheca'. I hope that helped. Keep it up, your presentations have a scientific quality and scrutiny.

      Thank you very much! I am _extremely_ interested to know! I love languages, and Greek is the hardest language I have ever tried to learn. Sad to say, I gave it up in the end. The main difficulty I couldn't get my head around was rearranging my brain to pronounce certain letters completely differently.
      Learning Latin pronunciation was comparatively easy, and pronouncing Spanish far easier, which is why my habit in pronouncing my "a" as a hard "ɑ". I had no idea that "a" is "æ" in Greek. Thanks for that!
      Sauros is "sɑvros", correct? Also, did you have an insight as to a better translation for "μαῖα"?

    Godammit! This was an instant buy for me when I saw it or at least I thought…it’s such a perfect figure why did they have to make it so f*cking small!?!?! It looks like an infant compared to my parasaurolophus and ouranosaurus when it should be of comparable size.
    Haolongood has been so dissapointing lately. Can’t they just stick to a bloody scale? Instead they jump around all over the place

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 місяці тому

      Well... at the very least I wasn't as disappointed by the size of this as I was with the HLG Edmontosaurus... now I felt that pinch on _that_ one! And certainly, I am sure they could have kept ot 1:35 at least for the more popular ones. Still, if you did get this in the end, I hope that you will find that they still give you enough happiness!

    Great review, interesting they've not applied the 'hoof' manus to the maiasaura and also the tlatolophus, I wonder why. Also, isn't the PNSO paraurolophus much too big for 1:35, at least 1:25 scale?

    • @starbirds2464
      @starbirds2464 4 місяці тому

      No, parasaurolophus did get that big. The largest individual approached 13 metres though it is fragmentary. Also the hlng miasaura is too small for 1:35

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 місяці тому

      Hmmm I took the length to be 9.5m, though the head itself might be more 1:26 or so. If you're going just by skull size, then you are right.

    Oh no can't believe the Gastonia is lost 😮 seems the smaller packages end up missing. The Gastonia models is a must have as its well done on both colors. The Diabloceratops is out now from Haolonggood and I hope this doesn't go the same way as the packaging is small again. I didn't quite like the pinkish baby and changed it to match the brown mother. In all another well done piece from Haolonggood which keeps giving us non stop models.😊

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes for some reason I have been getting them very late or not at all. At least I did get the Gastonia, but as it turns out, my camera doesn't capture the colours of the green well at all, so in a sense, no one lost anything when I didn't review it! 😁
      By now you may have received your Diabloceratops. I think I need not talk about how good this model is!

      @Home_of_Dinos 2 місяці тому

      @DinosDragons oh thank goodness you received the Gastonia, probably delayed considerably in the end. I was waiting ✋️ for your review on this model. Maybe you could say the camera is at fault if you decide to do that review 😂. Yes, we lost something actually with your comparison to the Almond 🤣 oh yes , I've received my Diabloceratops, and it fits perfectly well with the Xinyan studio model nesting diorama pair I have. To date the diabloceratops by haolonggood is very good 👍 in detail and color. A Dinosaur model manufacturer i spoke to call these mass produce models "cold" compared to his work. Well, i can't actually say his models are actually superb in any sense as he needs to improve on his skills which I was disappointed on most of my purchases from him. By the way the Haolonggood Saichania model is out now with Pnso's new Maxim, the Baryonyx model as well. Lots of reviews ahead 😁

    It's sad to hear that you've lost another figure in Gastonia. But hopefully, it will arrive. I have a small question, my dear sir. Being in the Hadrosauridae family, did they have those big neck scales? So if they had them, I think they're missing in this figure. Other than that, this is picture-perfect. Without any arguments, this is the best Maiasaura figure out there. And if I get the chance to buy this gorgeous figure, I'll definitely buy the brown version. Thank you so much for this wonderful review, my dear sir. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you get well soon. 🖤

    • @DinosDragons

    Más dinosaurios con nombres en femenino harían falta. Dicho esto... ¡Menuda sorpresa! HG me dejó alucinado con esta combinación de adulto+cría digna de solamente verse en ediciones museo de PNSO. Volvemos a ver diferencias, grandes diferencias, entre el pintado verde y el marrón, quedando (en mi opinión) el marrón muy por encima en calidad que el verde. Sin embargo, coincido totalmente contigo en que todo el trabajo bien realizado con los adultos, no se hizo con las crías... El pintado es increíblemente pobre... Una pena, ya que el modelado es muy bueno pese a ser una pieza tan pequeña. Una muy necesaria aportación a la colección de estos hermosos animales y un muy buen trabajo analizando esta figura, amigo 😊👏🏼👏🏼

      Muchas gracias como siempre por tus pensamientos tan detallados y completos. ¡Siempre valorado!
      Creo que el marrón tiene una ligera ventaja, pero encuentro que a veces alterno entre preferir el marrón y otras veces el verde.
      Es realmente una lástima. Me sorprende que los dinosaurios jóvenes estén tan mal pintados en comparación con los adultos. Le resta valor a la belleza general del conjunto. ¡Tengo que conseguir que alguien los vuelva a pintar cuando tenga mucho dinero!

    The lack of a lateral crest is a shame. I don't understand why they didn't fix it when the issue was brought up to them back when the digital prototypes were revealed.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 місяці тому

      I believe that they may have been too far along in the process to make changes. I recently made a suggestion to a model maker I respect, and while he acknowledged his mistake, he admitted that things were too far along for him to make changes without incurring a big loss.
      I think HLG is also really busy nowadays, so they may not have caught up with all the responses from fans. For example, notice how they changed the Ouranosaurus hand when they were less busy. I do credit them for improving so much so fast though, especially for accuracy, but it's a little unfortunate that taking references from lateral images only without a 3D view lead to errors like this.

    Fantastic! These two are beautiful. Another amazing output from Haolonggood. We're still waiting for these in the UK, along with four other recent Haolonggood releases. It will be a big hit on the wallet when all five pairs arrive in the summer (or trio in the case of the Mamenchisaurus). I did smile at your "well turned ankles" reference. That ages me too I'm afraid.
    All the best recovering from your extraction. I can empathize as I'm soon to have a molar extraction myself. Cheers

      Haha YES! There is something really alluring in older English, and I cut my teeth on Dickens and then Shakespeare and then through to Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie.
      I do understand that for some reason, models arrive a lot later in the UK. I often see notices by EverythingDinosaur of new arrivals that we got weeks if not months earlier. Hopefully that fires up your anticipation without diminishing the impact.
      My suggestion comes too late now, but I would have said that when all ten arrive, take some time with each. Sometimes, getting a deluge of them can attenuate the sense of value compared to getting them in bit by bit. It all becomes a blur.
      Thank you for our well wishes. The extraction finally stopped hurting after about 20 days, and now I await with bated breath and eager anticipation for my appointment to decide on my future with dental implants. I hear it's a fun process!
