It's a very good area to be doing some bus journeys, is the North East of England. Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough etc. Maybe you could do some more from the area in 2025? It would also be nice if you could find a way to do some journeys in Scotland sometime too. In the meantime, have a a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
God willing I'll do more of the North East and even better not long I can feature some internationals. Scotland would be nice. If you have ever travelled through Durham on the train, you may have saw the bus station from the railway viaduct - whilst looking out of the window, on board the train. So, therefore you will have a rough idea of where the bus station is in the city. Durham of course is another of those British cities steeped in history and also a very beautiful place.
Sacriston is the birthplace of former England football manager Bobby Robson, and of actress Wendy Craig. As far as I know Prefab Sprout's Paddy McAloon still lives in Witton Gilbert. Sadly there's no way to do the 12 mile journey from Sunderland to Durham by public transport that doesn't leave you exhausted at the end of it, so I hope you weren't too tired to enjoy the rest of your day.
I didn't know that thank you for sharing. This was my second ride of the day so I was tired. I also went on to do another ride which was unsuccessful so I was tired. But that's how the cookie crumbles. Thank you for your comment
The Go-ahead group are a bus operator based in Newcastle upon Tyne (Head office). Their standards appear to be better than most other bus operators around the UK. You often find that their fleets are quite modern and up-to-date, and their insides are well looked after. But they only really operate in about 7 or 8 counties of England.
I noticed the buses were well looked after. I enjoyed my rides in Tyne and Wear and Durham. I hope to ride there again. Your informative comments are welcome. Thank you
I think that there's some strong evidence of Norman French and Gaelic influences in some of the place names in and around the North East of England. Places like Houghton-le-Spring and Chester-le-Street each have the "le" which is stereotypically French.
I thought so about the two towns with 'le' in their names. But I haven't researched the history of the area. It was nice to see this part of England, I enjoyed Newcastle in particular as I stayed there for my short break
