    Hello Tinman for the guy with no spark I had a 372 I went through 4 coils with spark sometimes and other times no spark drove me crazy I sent 1 to ironhorse to test before we figured out that the end wasn't put on correctly inside the sparkplug boot!!! Now talk about a new build nightmare LOL

    Interesting talk on saw timing. If I was younger and used my saws more, I would do some experimenting, but for now at least, I'll just enjoy learning about the ins and outs of timing. I have a couple of 2100s to restore, and I will do some thinking as to whether I want to modify one.
    I have had a lathe since 1970, and wouldn't be without one. I also have a small vertical mill, but if I could have only one of the two, it would be a lathe. When I didn't have a mill, I made a milling adapter to do milling on my lathe. It worked great.
    I have cut a lot of my own gaskets over the years.

    Tinman no lathe here. As a metal stud framer for 40+ years I also have had many cuts on the job. The worst from tangling with a 4 inch grinder. Love your videos, I've got my husky 350 all torn apart getting ready to rebuild her. I've learned a lot from you thanks

    Tinman- love the content! Gotta share this with you- try this please- when using the hole punch to make gaskets, do it on a steel surface, No cardboard. Tap lightly so you don’t crush the end of the punch- with no cardboard cushion the punch works through the gasket material very easily. Lighter taps. Clean holes. 👍

    I always, always learn something watching other guys work on their saws. As much as social media has hurt society, it has also really helped society. The fact that builders and saw enthusiasts across the globe can all sit down and interact during a build is phenomenal. It makes us all better builders. Thanks for great content Tinman.

    FYI, empty shell casings work really well for punching holes .270 makes nice 1/4" holes 32 cal makes 5/16", .38/.357 makes 3/8 nicely

    I tossed together a 372 with a 268 piston a while back, stacked base gaskets, purely out of curosity how it was going to run. Intake ended up at 164, which is more than I like, but the 372 seems to be blenty happy without the extra case compression. OEM jug, 0.0195 squish, exhaust ended up at 102, transfers at 124. Thing ran very well even before I ported it, no shortage of snap on the throttle.
    I have not played with a 52mm setup in quite some time.

    South bend 9 inch lathe from 1945. They don't build them like that anymore! It gets a little tight turning cylinders sometimes, but they just means you have to get creative!

    I was able to do a 272 piston in a big bore 372 build without any lathe work by putting in a shim gasket in and using JB weld on the intake ironhorse style and it worked a treat

    Hmm thumbs, I sliced halfway through the tip of one of mine with freshly sharpened hedge trimmers , the hospital took an xray and found the cut was 1mm away from the bone, it took years for the feeling to come back in the tip of that thumb. Look after them, you only get two of em...

    That seems like a thick gasket...hmmm. I guess we will see how it turns out. No lathe in my shop. Timed out my 272xp, with a base gasket .027thou squish, 148° intake duration, 104° on the exhaust and 21° blow down. Polished up the exhaust port and cleaned up the piston windows. Let me know what you think. I think I will run with these numbers and see how it cuts. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

    Right now I have a newer model 462 a guy ran alcohol in 🤣 I'm gonna try a 461 piston. Ik it's not a stato piston but ik the 461 piston is taller and the intake with 461 piston has too big of a intake. I'm gonna try a bigger gasket cause the top of piston dosent clear squish with stock gasket. Gonna try this any input would be helpful. Thanks for the awesome videos and keep on keepin on man!

    I always learn something new when I watch your videos. I know this video is several months old, but I hope you answer my question. I have a 365 Special that the spark plug"s ground electrode broke off while it was running wide open. It ran around the top of the piston siezing the ring and peckering up the squish band before it traveled down a transfer and wedging between the crank throw and case where it locked up the engine. I've been watching yours and Ironhorse's videos on how to port a cylinder. I used this cylinder to learn to port on. I also removed the damage to the squish band. I actually did a good job on the porting and thought I might try to use this cylinder. I have around 0.055" squish now. I thought I might do a similar piston swap. My question is will a Stilh 036 piston or a Husky 262 piston work? If so does it need to be a pop up piston and which do you recommend? If you don't want to make a recommendation I understand but could you give me the demensions of each piston? I know they are both 48mm diameter. I need to know the distance from the top edge of the piston to the center of the wrist pin and to the bottom of the skirt. I don"t have money to spend on parts to be able to measure them to see if they may work. Thanks!

    First off, thank you for the excellent content and sharing your knowledge. Now I might be missing something but wouldn’t raising the cylinder actually help to prevent free port as you are raising the bottom of the exhaust further up the piston? I’m just out here learning as much as I can before I take the plunge into porting my saw.

    hey Tinman. Great content, love it. I am building a 266XP currently and have a question. I need more intake duration and don't want to enlarge my intake to much and slow the velocity down, If i cut the skirt down a bit on my piston, do I need to trim both sides? didn't know if it would throw the balance off and wear one side of the piston more or prematurely? thanks a bunch for the time, Shelby Wright

      I traded a load of firewood for a 372 about 20 years ago, it had just been rebuilt. It had the same issue but I never thought anything of it because it always worked good, fast forward to 2023 and I watched Steve’s small engine saloon about carb tuning, I adjusted the low speed jet out a little, now it’s running in three pulls.
      It also ran excellent and would idle no problem. Just an idea

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  Рік тому +1

      It may need more low jet like .aybe 1/8 turn. Or perhapse the little oring behind the sleeve on the clutch side is missing, that can cause a small air leak.

      @wayneharper87 Рік тому +1
