- In this chatty weekly vlog, I tackle trimming my tree. I pick tiles for my bathroom renovation, do some live radio and have an epic resin fail.
The resin kit I used featured in the video below, I mistakenly mixed the resin 1:1 ratio instead of 2:1 ratio. Which meant the resin did not have a chemical reaction to cause it to harden. I hope you learn from my mistake.

So, I used the plant app from suggestions, and it came back as a "Gum Bully", A species of sideroxylon, from pictures online of the flowers, I think that this is correct. I am safe from the fairies!

I'm from Tyneside but live in Western Canada, and we planted a Toba hawthorn in our garden some years ago. Because we're zone 3 many things that are hardy over there can't survive here in northern Alberta, but this Toba variety of hawthorn can be grown. It has tiny little bright pink flowers in spring and leaves that are small and with lots of points, a bit like tiny maples, not at all like the leaves I saw as you were clearing up your prunings. I'm glad you were able to identify your tree and you're safe from the fairies. My hawthorn didn't survive this past winter so now it has to be felled, and I'm sad to lose it. Trees are precious, not just for the air we breathe but for the beauty they give us. I hope the fairies aren't ticked off at us. 🧚♂️🧚♀️🧚🥺

About public speaking, RTE acknowledged that you are a star. How great is that! So many subscribers, proven content and delivery. The more interviews you do the more natural it will feel. Bob Hope's maxim for performances was to "always show that you are happy to be there". That comes naturally to you. You already know your topics because you live them. I've given power point talks to large groups. I always add something I haven't shared previously., extra photos or a story. A cousin lives on a farm in Galway. Years ago, her husband wanted to clear a field they weren't using but she hesitated because of the presence of Hawthorn. I've been blessed with many cats who have lived to a great age. They need moisture. Easily dehydrated. Every cat I've had loves Gerber's Baby Beef (whipped beef) when they are poorly. Not a regular diet for long but nice as a treat, too. Recommended by a vet. I purchased a small cat fountain on Amazon (only $25.). The cat took right to it. They love running water. Thanks for your positive, relatable videos.

Love ur chatty vlogs. Not boring at all. I’ve been doing yoga 🧘🏻♀️ with Adriene for 4 years now. It’s done wonders for mental & physical health. Can’t recommend it enough. Also that pixie 🧚♀️ fear is a huge thing in Ireland 🇮🇪. Like roads get diverted cos no one wants to remove the pixie tree!

You are an amazing woman! I actually showed my husband your tree trimming tool. One tip I can give you from him is, he puts an old sheet down to lay the trimmings on. That way he can gather is up easier. I have serious health issues and have stayed home since last March. I'm more nervous now that people in the US aren't wearing masks and everything is opening up. I would hate to have made it this far then get sick. We are being MORE careful than ever!

I have small hands too and hated gardening gloves because they never fit. I stumbled upon children's gloves and OMG, what a difference! Try a large kids and see, it's amazing to have gloves that fit and are the same as adults. Love your new tree trimmer!

Public Speaking was req'd in college. Here's some tips
1. Notecards - just write topics to avoid reading.
2. Look up frequently if you must read something.
3. Making eye contact keeps audience engaged, so remember to look left, center, right, center, left, center, & so on.
4. Lastly, practice, & avoid saying "um".

Put a few little gifts for the fairies in the garden just in case. I’m always saying when I see little whirling dervishes that the fairies are dancing. I just put a small fountain in my little yard this past week and every day I have to add fresh water. I say it’s for the birds, and it is, but it’s really for fairies to splash about. 🤫
Never boring Catherine!!! And really helps us all get through these strange times, thanks so much.... I had vertigo when I was stressed working 2 jobs at a time.. Didn't like the SIRT tablets at all but hope they helped....... I think recent times cause a chronic stress rather than high intensity stress.... its just so wearing.... so really, you are doing great. I find stopping smelling lavendar and rosemary help me be in the moment.... and dancing in the kitchen like a nut.... Tony Robbins says "emotion follows motion" .. so if ya move like a happy person ya can make yourself feel better apparently.... works for me often.... take care. You are a dote and gorgeous at the same time, bless you Pet.

Hi Catherine, love your channel, I never miss a video. You touched a nerve when you spoke about fear of public speaking, I've suffered the same for years. I recommend you look at Mel Robbins videos, she explains that the physical feeling of fear is exactly the same as the physical feeling of excitement. So, instead of thinking that your fearful you can think ' I'm really excited to be doing this radio chat'. It's worked for me !

Found out I am equal parts (my Mom's family came from Crohane and my Dad's parent's came from Ayrshire, Scotland) Irish and Scottish ancestry. As for your speaking dilemma, I get you. Catherine - so enjoyed just hanging out with you. You are never boring! Here are some completely random thoughts: Look upon your "pre-show anxiety" as a positive ... the adrenaline it creates can truly be a plus. Re: the tree ... take a small branch or some leaves to your local nursery and have them ID it. I've been doing Yoga with Adriene for the past 2 years ... she is the best! Poor Pepsi - when my cat became "elderly" she became a very picky eater ... I spent lots of time standing in the pet store reading cat food labels. Thumbs up on the acupuncture ... my best advice is to make sure you are staying hydrated ... it makes ALL the difference! Have a good week!

Fun to watch Catherine. One would never know that you have such anxiety about speaking live. You seems so relaxed on your videos. You did a great job on your tree. Be very careful using resin. That is a target Chemical and can be very unhealthy. It may not show up until later in life so be careful on how often you are around that stuff. Ann from Va. USA 🇺🇸

Here in the US the resin you’re using can just be tossed into the garbage. I work in a lab where we use resin every day to grind up sections of printed circuit boards. As soon as the bottles are empty they can be tossed. If you end up with extra just pour hardener in it and let it set up, then go ahead and throw it out. Love the video and you aren’t boring by any means! Funny and courageous I’d say!

I think the only way of getting more relaxed when public speaking is doing it all the time until you have been through some terrible situations and learn that they are not so terrible after all or at least they are always fixable 😅 if possible, having a second person supporting you is also awesome. but depending also on what kind of public speaking you are doing. what i like to do as well for very challenging ones, is to prepare something really nice as a treat afterwards. so even if it doesnt go well, there is always something to look froward to
I have to admit I'm quite happy you've decided resin isn't your thing. Unless you're wearing a full on professional chemical respirator the fumes are terribly bad for your lungs. I speak from a place of experience. I got into making resin tumblers & while I worked with open windows & wore a face mask I still managed to damage my lungs which took several months to recover from. More importantly is the sanding of resin surfaces & breathing in the resin dust. My Dr explained to me the "non-toxic" state of resin & hardener apply independently but not when they're mixed together. It's not so much how toxic they are, or not, it's the particulates which cause the irritation & inflammation. In my case it caused me to develop asthma. Exposed to the slightest irritant, even household dust, would trigger an asthma attack. This went on for about 4 months.
I'm having to ease slowly into going out again. Here the mask mandates have been removed for those who are fully vaccinated but even those who aren't are tossing aside their masks and running wild. A selfish thing to do for sure. My small rural community of 2K has the highest spread rate in this entire state(US state). As a result of this we've had a new surge. Just this last Friday graduation was held at our local school. I took 1 look in through the open doors of the gymnasium & went home. About 80% were maskless. We stand at only 41% of the community having the 1st vaccine & only 27% being fully vaccinated. 10 or so days from now no doubt we'll see another major surge. It's happened after every single holiday & event where people cluster here.
Your vlog isn't boring, you just lead a normal life like the rest of us. That makes you more relatable. I'm sure most of us have dried "knickers on the rad" at some point 😂. We've no choice with our Irish weather!

Congrats on your radio work. One tip for right beforehand: Do some box breathing (Google it). Box breathing, especially the longer exhales, stimulate your vagus nerve, which runs from your head to your gut, which activates your body's calming response. I've done box breathing before stressful events and it's helped me drift into a calmer mindset.

I suffer from anxiety and vertigo among other things. You are so amazing at all you do, you have inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and do more to push my boundaries. If I panic over having to do something or go somewhere I reassure myself I "don't" have to do it but I "want" to do it so that sometimes helps me alittle. Thank you for being you ❤ xxx

What a wonderful surprise to get a 2nd video this week! Yeah! The Tea Cup in the 1st part of the video is so pretty, tiny little flowers.
The tree - I like the idea of it being connected to the Fairies. You could offer them some trinkets and bond with them, maybe some pretty stones, crystals, feathers, a fairy door, etc. I like the idea of ferns but what about adding some moss in that area as well, should do very well in the shaded corner and with the climate you have there, and fairies like moss, I hear, ha ha....
