Updates:
Mojang has updated the report system, and several of the report categories are either removed or refined, so it's less overbearing (though still counts as such, in my opinion).
Mojang has confirmed that a ban will affect all versions of Minecraft. This means if you get banned on 1.19, you will be banned from all of Minecraft, but you likely cannot be banned on an older version due to the lack of a reporting system.
Mojang is currently working on a system to mark chat messages as "secure", "unsecure" or "modified", based on the cryptographic signatures of the text. This is presumably to fight against mods like No Chat Reports, which modify or remove these signatures.
Still do not believe we should have it even if there was ONLY one word that was banned from the game. It doesnt matter what theyre trying to do because at the end of the day they still are forcing rules on servers they dont own and have no control over
Regarding the last point, pre-release 2/3 did not actually do much that would affect my mod. I just uploaded my own video to cover technical side of latest updates and clarify misconceptions a lot of people seem to have about them.
I ain't using the chat anymore
I was figuring they were gonna go after the mods. Microsoft is still ruining Minecraft, and the community will roar as hard as we can to get this chat system either removed, or changed so that community owned servers are safe.
Looks like Minecraft is about to go up in flames... or everyone starts using other apps

Call me crazy, but wouldn't it be so epic if the whole of the Minecraft community joined together to report people only to write something like "the ban system sucks." Or something like that, I mean there's no better way to contact Minecraft about their ban system other than right through their ban system
Nice approach
And if its all cracked players, it won't harm your actual account anyway
But then again, if you got a person who didn't want to be reported like that and got banned because of it, then it's just a dick move on the community's part.
Or just talk about it in chat cuz they are probably stalking chat logs aswell
What if "Mass Report" got added to hacked clients?
I feel like Minecraft may be screwed at this point, with chat reporting being added, the Wild Update being a trainwreck and Hytale getting closer to release, goodness knows what will happen.

I am a realms player that plays with my friends and this is outrageous. Even assuming that the chat filter system is perfect, this is still unacceptable. I payed money for a subscription to play in a world with my friends, so in theory I should “own” this realm and I should have the final say on how I should play and what should or should not be allowed. A subscription for realms is like renting a house in real life, and Microsoft is the landlord. In real life, landlords are not allowed to enter tenants houses and take there stuff without permission. This chat filter system just like a landlord forcefully entering your house and throwing away your furniture just because they don’t like it.
Please do look into private server hosting. It's often cheaper than a Realms subscription, and you have much more control over your experience. Plus, you can install mods (including the No Chat Reports mod!)
That’s a pretty good way to put it
Not just that, it's also like the landlord telling you that you can't swear in your own house.
@@steverempel8584 AND the landlord has installed cameras all over the house, so that they can catch you committing a crime even between visits.
I completely agree but just for future reference the landlord comparison was actually incorrect. A landlord can actually enter their house whenever they want for business purposes, they just need to provide the tenant a day (It can't be same day) Renting a house doesn't mean you own it, you have to abide by the landlords rules which is usually put in the lease. Mojang is very cringe for doing this though, your landlord comparison was correct but in the wrong way. They are taking a game that was already purchased by hundreds millions of people and adding something many years later that no one likes. That's kind of like having a tenant for so long with a dog then updating the lease after the last one ended and saying no more pets allowed. Cringe as hell.
Seriously, I thought that Mojang had actually learned something from their mistakes but it is totally opposite of what I actually think 😭

This is unbelievably dystopian. Many years ago when Microsoft first bought this game, we had our doubts but didn't expect anything too horrible. Now that Microsoft is pushing for complete control, if this isn't addressed, Minecraft could end up as a censor-hellscape like Twitch or UA-cam. This isn't for anyone's safety, (almost like something Susan and the rest of her trash executives would say) but no this isn't just UA-cam pushing this garbage now it's Java: 1984 Edition. There's so many edgy servers like 2b2t that would get catastrophically impacted if this continues successfully. Gaming is meant to be a frontier of entertainment and fiction, a way of escaping the adversity of the real world to have fun and have a feelgood time. But now that gaming is shoving censorship down people's throats, we can't even have peace to ourselves when we try to build our own communities and hobbies. The richest people in the world from Microsoft would enjoy us becoming drones that we don't question anything. Doesn't that seem similar to an ideology called authoritarianism?

"This will not affect the minecraft community as much as they say." While you may only have the possibility of getting banned on 1.19+, it will brick EVERY version of minecraft if they get banned. Basically can't even late night chat anymore with IRL friends about IRL things on a self hosted SMP without Microsoft possibly interfering... This is a move from Microsoft that does not make any sense. Java became so immensefully successful partly thanks to the community and the freedom Mojang gave us to play the game. Freedom like making your own mods, creating your own servers, skins, building whatever you want, saying whatever you want and doing anything whatever you want really. The chat being censored is a terrible development for Java. In an earlier video I was very positive about the Microsoft migration but if this is the direction they are taking the game, I fear for the worst. And yes, there is an argument to be made that this thing is blown way out of proportion but look at it this way: you currently can do whatever you want in the game and with the new update you *risk* a PERMANENT ONLINE BAN for talking on your OWN SERVER with fellow adult IRL friends for swearing or talking about s3x or alcohol.

In my personal opinion, this is an absolutely abhorrent decision on Microsoft's end. They ignore version parity but add this. Java's status quo has functioned perfectly for the past decade, it's unbelievable that they are implementing this now, when they could have added it when they first bought out Mojang. This does nothing but hurt their reputation, and, if they end up using bots or outsourcing their moderation (which they almost certainly will) their community. Some players have gotten banned from singleplayer itself due to an online ban on Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. What if they bring that to java? I don't think that "Well, most people are gonna be fine cause they are playing on older versions" is a reasonable defense either, as the game updates, this is going to be the version people need to update to for new features, without that servers will get more stale much faster. Overall good video, far more relaxed than most others on the topic, but I just don't like what this may entail for the future of the game.
"They ignore version parity but add this" that not more of Mojang's job? The people who develop the game itself.
Microsoft are supposedly just making them implement this and by their own means. The people who... Well I have no idea what Microsoft really does.
Its shit, and I want it removed, but as of now I'm not even going to bother checking out new Minecraft versions.
I'm probably gonna stick to 1.19, and a lot of other people probably will too. It'll be a version of the game that probably keeps getting modded support well after it becomes outdated. As a result, it will likely be supplied with tons of new content for years in the future by the modding community. I wish it wouldn't come to this, but I kinda think it will. Mojang has been very clear that this is what they are going to do, and they aren't going to stop implementing it. It's a feature that will get added to the game, and regardless of whether it's good or not, we can't do anything about that, and we just have to accept it. I'm ready to see all the backporting mods for 1.19. If Microsoft really wants to enforce this, I guess they'll have to contend with a resilient community. Maybe they'll try banning older versions like they did with Bedrock, but that's not gonna work. They've supplied both the game files and a server JAR for every older version of the game, and there's no way they can remove them all from circulation without going full 1984. And even if big companies have a lot of control, they can only go so far before it's unfeasible even for them. The future of the game will be in the community's user-generated Java Edition content. And, I guess the newer versions will still exist... but they will be filled with too much fear of being banned.
"Java's status quo has functioned perfectly for the past decade, it's unbelievable that they are implementing this now, when they could have added it when they first bought out Mojang."

I believe that 1.8 client is still affected. It is because when you are connecting to the server, your client will send a request to the session server for authentication. I believe that when you’re account is banned from Minecraft, you will not be able to authenticate with the session server, which mean you will get failed to authenticate error when you’re connecting to any server which is using online mode
Server owners will just have to set up their own authentication system via mods. Like having their own account system along with TLS client certificates. 2B2T may try this out first if they ever update.

What I'm the most scared of is the possibility that this report/ban system could turn Minecraft into what is essentially the video game version of UA-cam. If you don't know what I mean by this, I'm talking how UA-cam uses AI for handling most channel/buisness-related issues; a system that tends to be faulty and make mistakes that far too often cost innocent creators who did nothing wrong. If Mojang takes the AI route with this, it may land Minecraft and the company as a whole in a controversy that could put a permanent stain on their business. I personally am especially passionate about this as a couple of years ago, I was banned from Hypixel by their Watchdog anti-cheat for a whole year due to a frustrating "in-air player suspension glitch" caused by our McDonald's-quality internet and the large number of players on the server. After making an appeal and a lengthy forum post, Hypixel basically pulled a UA-cam on me, and I was forced to wait out the YEAR-LONG ban. This is the time we try and prove her Point against Microsoft if we don't do this now things will get you like Roblox and UA-cam
Im not sure if i can believe you here. I have seen people get false banned for something really stupid multiple times now, but for whatever reason, they all had broken some major rules beforehand. But every time u want a new acc in Java u need to pay
How is that a thing for Bedrock? And why are people complaining they need to buy a new account just to play the game after they've been banned? I'm not a Bedrock player myself
@@dragoneyr1632 okay so if you just download bedrock then make a new Microsoft account you can play for free and you can even make another one as an alt and another one and another one

The report system is so much and can cause a lot of problems especially for servers like 2b2t
Think of the possibilities though. You could join a server and set up a public puppy mill. Produce loads of puppies then set them on fire. People will get mad and start hating on you. Then you report them and they get banned!
“The oldest anarchy server in Minecraft”
Would like to say here, According to reports, 2B2T is being flooded with report spamming bots and scripts banning random people who join the server right now.
Isnt it 1.19.1 only though?
This kind of thing has been happening for some time, people creating their own servers to escape the unfair rules of corporations
I feel like there's a question we're forgetting though, and I think it's a really important one. With these mods to effectively make chat-reporting useless in 1.19.1 and all future versions, is there a chance Microsoft may go after the creators of these mods, to stop them from removing chat-reporting?
Furthermore, what if they sue Curseforge or TLauncher, the go-to launchers for Minecraft because of the minecraft mods abilities to remove chat reporting, but also add horror mods, etc? Since some mods like Lycanite Mobs or just in general the entirety of the RLCraft modpack, or other modpacks because they have content that may not be suited for younger audiences?
Of course I may be wrong, but then again it's interesting to think about since people have been talking about the 'no chat reporting' mod, that eventually it has to grab Microsoft's attention, right? Along with the entire modding scene. Makes me wonder if we'll have a Minecraft modding purge.
You're half wrong, they'll remove all mods and introduce microtransactions into java 😀

This does not need to exist, it has not for over 10 years, and things have been and will continue to be fine without it. it's Microsoft sticking their nose in places they have no right to be in.
They should make chat mutes not ban from multiplayer

this should be a togglable feature for server owners so u cant report on anarchy servers
I think that the other thing you're missing is that Microsoft and Mojang or trying to moderate servers which day don't own. On Minecraft realms and Mojang partnered servers I could see this actually working and being well but it's not right on Cell posted servers where small groups of private friends play or other servers have their own rules as I don't think Minecraft has the justification to try to enforce rules on servers they don't own because every server has a different community and a different vibe. Is not just to limit the serious things but it's also Minecraft extending its reach and control where they shouldn't in Minecraft own trailer they say that Minecraft is a place where anyone can do anything.
If this feature is added then it should only be on Minecraft realms and servers which specifically opt into this feature. If you get banned from Minecraft you should only be banned from Realms and those servers which opted into the future. I think this is a pretty clear-cut case of Minecraft trying to appeal to family-friendly audience is it completely neglecting the rest of their player base being safe for children. If you really want to do that did you just extend Terror controls instead of an approaching on the players right to say whatever they want on self hosted servers.
Completely removed it for good
Mojang isn't in control, this kind of "familly friendly" features are always and always were pure Microsoft idea, and they want to enforce it, won't let Mojang stand in their way
Yea no, Mojang directly allowed this as all Microsoft really does is the financing of Minecraft.
@@PeruvianPotato they didn't have any choice, just like for the migration (just look how the migration videos are so self-aware)

6:13 as far as I understood, you can be banned even if you're on 1.8 for example, if the server is running on 1.19.1 and the person reporting you is also playing on 1.19.1.
That's plausible, since they don't need to update your game to ban you. They can simply blacklist you from the authentication servers.
what about hypixel as it is on 1.8.9
@@sedwars3616 Hypixel is running on 1.12 as far as I know (for performance reasons). So it won't affect hypixel players yet.

This was my biggest concern ever since Mojang was acquired by Microsoft. Account integration with Xbox Live was bound to happen and that meant the game falling under Xbox's player conduct rules, which has always been notorious for leading moderators being very ban happy over arbitrary things in the most scattershot manner. Worst thing about it is despite the outcry from gamers from other games Microsoft never truly budged (because they believe child safety is paramount over all else), and the positive PR from the Xbox Game Pass drowning out any problems under the surface isn't helping.
If they go forward with this system is going to be a rude awakening for a lot of naive players who thought Minecraft being under M$ ownership will be a good thing.
your concernst mean jack thou,
its the swedes ruining the game, not the murricans.
swedes are notorius for being social justice warriors and lgbtq+ veterans.
Havent you watched minecon? that one blonde chick sounded like she had a mental breakdown.
Mojang is just as equally to blame considering they allowed this to happen and their ban criteria is much more strict compared to Microsoft's.
I think it's pretty clear that the old Minecraft we all know and love has been dead ever since Microsoft bought the game. Every version after 1.8 has a clearly different tone when compared to prior versions. Hell, they had an entire update (1.12, world of color) dedicated to remaking the palette to look more colorful and child friendly. Judging by the size of the recent updates and how little actual gameplay content they add (not counting technical changes), it's pretty clear that these new updates have to go through a bunch of marketing approvals which filters a lot of content.
An even bigger issue, is that the content they add nowadays doesn't seem to have much thought put into it to make it fit the game and connect it with other already existing game content. They're just adding random content for the sake of wowing young impressionable players, but when you go ahead and play with the content in survival, it just feels empty and way too easy (see: ancient cities and the warden, great concept but terribly executed). Even the old secret friday updates that were specifically designed to add random shit didn't have this issue, because the devs actually played their own game in survival mode.
Their focus has obviously shifted from a teenage/adult audience to a kid audience. I don't blame them, i mean it's the obvious thing to do seeing how popular the game is, but it's just sad seeing them ignore their original playerbase. What we need to do now is move on and start our own line of updates that maintain the feel of the pre-microsoft updates, similar to that Better Than Adventure mod.
how are ancient cities terribly executed?
@@flowcharts7987 Way too easy in hard mode. You can swoop down with an elytra, loot chests, and fly away without ever being in danger due to most "loot rooms" not having roofs. You can also straight up run through an ancient city completely naked with just an axe to break the chests. By the time the sculk shriekers finish their shrieking animation and the warden finishes its "crawling out" animation, you're already 30 blocks away and no longer in danger. It completely ignores how you're supposed to beat it (sneaking around).
I get that it's a sandbox game, so it shouldn't be too restrictive, but that doesn't mean there should be NO restrictions at all. When that happens, you get super easy survival gameplay like this.
FINALLY SOMEONE RECOGNIZES BTA!!!!!
If we are going to start making a community mod of minecraft (for a later version) then 1.11 sounds like the version to go to, but 1.8 could also work.
@@SnrubSource I disagree, of course it's going to be easy for very skilled players, but for others it won't be. Most people looting caves and ancient cities don't have elytras yet. Your running away stragety can easily summon another warden again when you're far enouch away as well. And what if you trigger the warden in a tight space? I think that the darkness effect is very very disorienting and makes running a good distance difficult unless you already have a set path.
In my opinion, the warden is one of the scariest mobs ever, I was blown away when I saw it and was obliterated by it my first time. It took me a while to understand the wardens attacks and how it works.
The warden is by no means easy

At this rate, Minecraft would fall due to this update since people will abuse this and lead to false ban and the game won't be played that people buy the game if ban will apply for single player
I'm part of a private building server. New updates bring new blocks, so it's super important that we're on the newest version. We're all over 18 and use whatever language we want. We joke with dark humor, and other things too. It's all within our server rules. We've had no issues moderating our own server within our own rule set. If you don't like what content our server outputs, it's as simple as don't join.
The fact that I could have all online rights stripped away from me for acting in a way my server allows, is absolutely ludicrous.
And even MORE so, the fact that if I slip up on accident on a server that has NOTHING to do with the server I've helped build and pay for, can get me globally banned from my OWN server with it's OWN set of rules is FAR WORSE!
I knew Microsoft buying Mojang was a bad idea.

If no chat reports mod doesn’t end up working, I have already developed a mod for my server that bridges minecraft chat over IRC. I have also make a small spigot plugin to make sure players don’t speak without it. Would you share the plugin and mod with us?

They did make blacklisted servers be inaccessible in earlier versions too except you'd get a Network is unreachable message which was quite unreliable tho and it would sometimes still let you in. The only way they can try to enforce such things in earlier versions (outside of literally changing the jars themselves) is just to not authenticate people in those older versions. But because of the older versions not having signiatures it's impossible for them to verify it and as such all reports on those older versions are invalid
3:17 Even if it is only used as a "last resort for seriously bad people", what about servers that want to allow those things? People who don't want to be exposed to it don't have to join those servers.
i guess a 100 year game is no longer part of the plan
They mustve realized it was too much work lmao
This is the start of the end of minecraft this is a complete disaster minecraft doesn't need this reporting moderation servers were doing fine without it.
Nothing is stopping Microsoft from removing access to older Minecraft: Java Edition versions in the default launcher.
Yes, and that's a big issue, but before that happens maybe someone should make an archive of all the versions. I know this could be considered piracy, but let's be honest- what Microsoft is doing is basically theft.
I will hate microsoft and download manjaro linux if this happens
I don't wanna use 1.19 pvp
7:07 Mods? Yep, I expected that, even thinked about making my own.
And if Mojang isn't going to stop we can take a step further - make servers requiere this type of mod to play.
Like some servers requiere you to use badlion client for antycheat.
Time for a server mod that uses TLS client certificates for authentication instead of a Microsoft session token.
The sad thing is, this isn't a mojang decision. This is purely a Microsoft decision. Mojang's hands are tied here.
People gonna spam so many reports it breaks i can imagine logging into hypixel and someone has a bot in every lobby reporting every message :/
I've also heard if you type anything that starts with the first three letters in NIGht then you would be warned or banned.
Honestly hopefully they fix it to where if online/realms/servers these bans would be possible and not solo worlds or just have a world option to toggle the feature on and off. preventing auto bans.
agree, the fact that snooper settings will alway be active, when they used to be optional. Mojang has lost some of its soul along the way over to microsoft, sadly. it hurts to see unlimited creativity and freedom not be appropriate anymore to describe minecraft as a game and place to be anymore
If they would just make it an opt-in system for servers rather than forcing it upon them, it would deflate the majority of the bad will it's generated. Servers are their own communities and should have the autonomy to decide what standards they find acceptable, not have it dictated for them.
Yeah and then servers in your list could indicate if they opted in or not
let's just not report people AT ALL to boycott this system
the EULA ban for servers only went into effect in 1.9.3 and was rolled back the same day in 1.9.4 because of the backlash.
1.19.1: drops
*Collective Consciousness plays*
Players: oh no
To be fair in the release candidate they did fix some of the problems, for example profanity is no longer a category, and drugs and alcohol now explicitly states that it only applies to illegal drugs and underage drinking but it still seems like a bad thing in my opinion as this is probably reviewed by Microsoft and not Mojang. Also, in my opinion, the feature should be toggleable by individual servers instead of banning people at auth level.
I think Mojang will add a toggle to disabled it.I hope 🤞
Illegal where? Underage where? Different countries have different rules. In the USA you can't drink if you're under 21. That's pretty high compared to most other countries.
That's a start, but I believe more can be done to improve the system if they insist on keeping it.

You're completely wrong on this not effecting players on older versions. Your ban blocks you from the session server meaning as long as you're on the account you got banned on, you literally cannot join servers (and yes, servers that were blocked by Mojang are blocked on all versions)
The ban may block you from the session server (not entirely sure) but chat messages sent on clients/servers of older versions can't be reported, since there is no report system until 1.19.1. And yeah, servers now are blocked on all versions but originally it was just 1.9+, which is why some servers that got blocked advised players to stay on 1.8 and earlier
