It is worth noting that this circuit does not provide any isolation from the 230V AC supply which means if you touch any part of the circuit when energised you could receive an extremely painful and dangerous shock from it. Remember that Neutral and Line connections are not guaranteed to be any particular way around. If you're learning electronics off UA-cam videos there's a good chance you're not aware of how to safely handle mains voltages... and what's worse, the way it's built in the video shows a complete disregard for even the most basic safety precautions. Secondly, the version of this circuit shown is a downright dangerous design: there is no fuse, no isolation, no earthing, no enclosure and if that 1/4W carbon film resistor fails it will pass mains voltage to the output.
this is call CAPACITIVE DROPPER CIRCUIT drop the ac voltage at around 35vac.....and convert to dc using bridge diode...commonly use on ac220 RF remote controller for 5vdc receiver and 12vdc relay ....small current and cost effective

not from this project alone. the only possible way is to have the required end current be less than the forward current of the last led in the chain. and the same for the led before that, and the led before that.. etc etc..and so, basically, you need a resistor for each led, which kind of reduces the effectiveness of the project.

Learning purpose is ok if you use it on a regular basis, then not useful. After some time, the capacitor and resistor both lose value of current, then the first resistor defuse, then the capacitor blasts. Many times I try this type of circuit for LED series lights, and every time the same issue comes out. Not useful for long 1 or 2 hours

Use with external LED strings is HIGHLY inadvisable ... Use a fully isolated supply instead ... A switched mode constant current supply found inside mains LED bulbs is a FAR safer option. 🤔🙄
If the 220 ohm resistor is connected to the "live" side of the electrical outlet, this circuit is going to give you a nasty shock. Please don't spread false information which can be dangerous for experimenters.
