You forgot to mention, how much weight the coil racks are rated for , and how you would use more for heavier coils.
Did you buy your step deck with the container attachments or did you have them installed?

We used to call those reels when I was flatbeddin
I drive a flatbed but I want to get a step deck and do coil, is it a good idea? Thanks
It’s not a bad idea. I have hauled a lot of coils and reels. I don’t mind hauling them. I definitely drive different when I am hauling them though. I stay as far away from other vehicles as I can so I don’t have to slam on my brakes.

Steel on Steel? Yikes! I'd use a skid mat.
That’s always an option if you feel the need for some reason.
1. The coils are in packaging, not exposed, so it is not steel on steel.2. Steel on Steel contact is only an issue with certain types of metal.
The "reason" is Friction.Think about it.... Securement is Friction - Increasing Friction increases Securement.
