He makes it look so effortless because he scores in a variety of ways. He can do it just moving around without the ball, put backs. Even when he isolates, he doesn’t dance, just one move and straight to the basket. Very little wasted movements. Compare that to someone like harden. Harden will take a hundred dribbles, then travel 😂.

MJ: The only player ever to win the scoring title, DPOTY, league MVP, dunk contest. and all star MVP all in the same season. Also had 9 straight triple doubles, and 10 triple doubles in 11 games that year. Still has record for best single season average in history with 35.5 ppg, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game in 88-89 season. Dude was just on the level that’s after being on another level.
It baffles me that people today think that this guy averaging 33% from 3 is a discredit to him... Especially considering the most 3PM per game in 92 was Vernon Maxwell with 2! There were also only 21 players who made 1 per game or more! he took like maybe one three pointer, it went in when it needed to, and he was best midrange scorer, and slasher of all time.
I did bit of a mini-analysis on the guys who could shoot but played in an era when nobody really shot that many 3s, and deduced that for main scorers, it requires around three attempts a game for the number to actually matter. Three point percentages of Larry Bird, who everyone knows was a fantastic shooter, varied from 21.2% to 40.6% when he attempted less than three a game. (He made 0.1 out of 0.7 in 81-82) But when he attempted at least 3 threes, his numbers were between 38.9% and 41.4%. Combined, he shot 40.1% in the three seasons he averaged 3 attempts per game, which to me is a fairly accurate reflection of his actual abilities. When you apply the same for Jordan, Michael had four seasons in which he attempted around 3 three-pointers: 89-90, 92-93, 95-96, and 96-97. For the latter two seasons he shot 42.7 and 37.4 percent respectively. But these were with shorter lines. For 89-90 and 92-93, he shot 37.6% and 35.2%. I'd say his true three point shooting abilities hovered around these ranges. Kobe had a lower percentage but he shot way more threes, so I'd say if Jordan shot many threes, the numbers would be somewhat similar to Kobe's. He may not have been a great shooter, but he was a decent one, who like you said, could make one when it counted. I've watched Jordan's games throughout his career, but one thing is clear: the defenders never really sagged off him, which would've been the logical choice if he indeed was a poor shooter. And the rare occasions the defense gave him that three, he would bury them from beyond the arc.
@@1124-w9d I appreciate you sharing those numbers. Thank you. If people want to pick on Jordan about threes, I'll take that, because we all know that stat is rubbish. He didn't need to shoot 3's. Paxson and Kerr were the man for the job after Jordan drew triple coverage.
Good point on MJ 3's. I watched most of his games as they happened, and when the open 3 was on, he knocked it down, NO WORRIES. He even won several games with massive threes. MJ was a scoring genius, 3, 2, or 1. He had such an ability to drive and beat two or three defenders which made him the goat, basically, no need for a three when you can take two or three to the rack and score. I cant explain to the kids today how much more enjoyment you get watching a player demoralize rather than shoot 3's, its almost boring and shows a lack of skill, if you just shoot 3s all day. MJ was a great 3 point shooter, like everything in the game. He had no weakness.
If I’m not mistaken he still holds the record for the most 3’s in a half in the finals. It’s not that he was a bad 3 point shooter it’s the fact that he chose not to because it took away from his game that he was best at. People can say what they want but he was a good 3 point shooter. He just didn’t need to cause he was so dominant everywhere else.
Only youngsters that doesn't know how the game suppose to be played would discredit someone that takes the highest percentage shot layup, dunks,, midrange.. Over the lowest percentage shot which is the 3.
