Im grew up in the UK, and my uncle moved to The States from London in the early 1990s and he lived in both Pittsburgh and Philly during the 90s as he studied his doctorate in medicine over there. He trained as a doctor and treated gunshot victims in a trauma centre and victims of gunshot wounds came in almost daily. Philly was even worse than Pittsburgh from what he told me and the 1 time I visited, my uncle drove me through North Philly to the nice safe suburb at the edge of the city where he lived and it truly shocked me how rundown, poverty strjcken and destitute the inner city in Philadelphia was, especially Kensington, I could see why many people in those environments turn to the streets.
Im from North Philly and man you said it well. It's so easy to turn to the streets but you have to fight to stay out and I try to explain how vicious and run down looking Philly is, its the definition of what a trecherous hood is ... I pray my city gets better and the whole world.
@buckets267 Yeah, and conpared to the inner city areas in the UK, Philly and other American inner cities are on another level. Aaron, tje documentary maker of this film is actually from Birmingham in the UK, and he actially grew up in a pretty rough neighbourhood there where there was some gun violence in tjat area, I was born on London but grew up in Manchester, a city about 80 miles north of Birmingham, and the area I lived in was probably one the roughest, and I used to hear gunshots probably every 2 or 3 weeks, and this was back in the early 90s when the UK had a gun violence issue concentrated in a few areas of the main cities, but it wasnt a nightly thing like what goes on in inner city Philly and it its worse wasnt that bad compared the the cities in the States. We have an issue with stabbings now, but in the main thankfully people still tend to sort their differences out with fists instead of weapons. When I waa in the U.S.A visiting family, I was always wary of retaliating back with aggression to anyone who had an issue with me or started a confrontation, which did happen, because of the fear they could have a weapon they could hypothetically use. I hope Philadelphia starts to put some real changes to lower the gin violence because it is such a great city with so many good hard wlrking people and the people deserve better.

This is powerful. Every person living in these different hoods in Philly go through it. Growing up in North Philly I lost more than a handful of friends to gun violence, suicide, and drugs. I’m from a bad projects in Brooklyn and the hood is the hood everywhere , trenches all over but Philly was a different beast.. it’s a boxing city so at the time everybody knew how to fight or at least square up and they was quick to fight or grab a hammer off of any dispute big or small. Still some of the best times of my life (14 yo) and when I went back to visit you could see it got worse and the soul of the city is almost gone fr !

I have family in Mayfair, a tiny neighborhood right next to Kensington. When we used to take the (PATCO )speed line from Jersey and then the L (Frankfurt line) up we used to get off at the K&A stop and take the bus to their house and in about 2010 it was nothing like the walking dead that part of the story comes in with fentanyl. The gun violence was always there but it has multiplied to the extent that we haven’t gone over there in years because it’s an actual war zone. I love Philadelphia and this really hurts my heart to see such a great city go through this.
It’s quite scary to be born into a kind of environment that enables one to be so deep into evil that you don’t even realize it & it’s your default “normal”. & if you do, by then it’s too late to change because you’ve got blood thirsty foes who don’t sleep until they get you or somebody you love or care about. May God have mercy all of the fallen souls!

This isn't philly. @8:04 says it all. This is a drill-rap created world of fantasy violence that for whatever reason these kids believe they need to make real. Ride or die by. As an older black Philadelphian, it's sad to watch a whole generation willingly lose themselves and their lives in a continual cycle of mindless "beef" - often over the dumbest things. Most disturbing? They're lost in a city most of the rest of the world flocks to for its world-class opportunities, creativity, history, innovation and beauty. Particularly because many have had opportunities, nobody in my generation understands our young people's willingness to throw it all away. Or how to reverse the mindset. Elements of the video I appreciated. Overall though, this is just another form of poverty porn. Pandering to an incredibly false notion of what Philadelphia is while amplifying the self-damaging echo chamber these kids already live in. It's beyond unhelpful. Make videos instead that shake up & untwist these kids' worldview. Philly or even just Strawberry Mansion (or the Pocket or Kensington or Southwest) is not "dat gutter." "The trenches." "Zombie-land." Only a place for "running ops" and doing to "niggas what need to be done to them." Creating vehicles that only perpetuate these narratives simply strengthens the cycle that's literally killing the lives of our young people.
I'm 61 years old now and I survived The Badlands in the 90s. I got lost through Gods Grace I escaped from north Philadelphia. I had several girls friends back in the 90s and I knew a couple people who didn't make it. Every day I pray for the lost souls and give thanks for my life today

For those who are watching; you can be legit & be a respected man. You can also still do music but you don’t have to cheat yourself out of a good life. You’re worth more.
I am praying for every black man in this video. I see the pain in your eyes. Please turn that pain into power and do something positive with your life. You all are talented and have a testimony that can change the lives of others. If no one ever told you today I’m letting yall know You Are LOVED ❤️🙏🏽

No worries. My young bul upstairs on the charger😅
Best coverage of Philly, no fluff, no silliness, just the real
I have family in Mayfair, a tiny neighborhood right next to Kensington. When we used to take the (PATCO )speed line from Jersey and then the L (Frankfurt line) up we used to get off at the K&A stop and take the bus to their house and in about 2010 it was nothing like the walking dead that part of the story comes in with fentanyl. The gun violence was always there but it has multiplied to the extent that we haven’t gone over there in years because it’s an actual war zone. I love Philadelphia and this really hurts my heart to see such a great city go through this.
23:05 the man who shot him must no longer be with us with that smirk he giving 😂
And the interviewer wasnt even picking up on it lmao
It’s quite scary to be born into a kind of environment that enables one to be so deep into evil that you don’t even realize it & it’s your default “normal”. & if you do, by then it’s too late to change because you’ve got blood thirsty foes who don’t sleep until they get you or somebody you love or care about.
May God have mercy all of the fallen souls!
Things aren’t going to change until you change. Hits me everyday. Create a better world. Walk away from it ..
This the best episode I seen fr fr
sad and embarrassing because this is not all of philly people in other places really think the city as a whole is the gutter. This generation has really done a number on our city reputation. People literally move from far away places to philly to have a better life. young folks of philly is lost and dont know if they will ever wake up.
Exactly what I always say people think the whole city is like this because this is all they advertise and show on UA-cam
He was passin it to his main man but remembered it's always to the left 😂. I respect that

This shit like a nightmare that never ends
Jumping off the 🏘️ straight to the ⚰️
I respect this video!! It's not making a mockery of my people like that Buckingham dude....
I'm 61 years old now and I survived The Badlands in the 90s. I got lost through Gods Grace I escaped from north Philadelphia. I had several girls friends back in the 90s and I knew a couple people who didn't make it. Every day I pray for the lost souls and give thanks for my life today
29:13 Sometimes you gotta smile to stop from crying 😢 Dul was a hurting soul. Hurt people hurt people

@@Zer0TheRapper01unc definitely be in the crib all day everyday. I don’t even beef with anybody and I ride around with all types of stuff. Chances of getting caught in the crossfire in Philly are higher than ever. This jawn wicked out here.
Nonsense.. Philly may have the lowest murder rate in 53 years at the present rate. It’s the poor areas where this nonsense goes on.. as in every major USA city. The hood doesn’t equal the entire city,. In Philly or anywhere
