The fact that you can use both 12v AND 20v batteries on the same drill is an awesome selling point on it's own. Let alone being able to chuck in two bits at the same time. Thanks Clint!

      @Pepe-dq2ib 2 місяці тому

But it's a skil.... bulky, weak and the chuck wobbles too much.

@@Pepe-dq2ibyeah, one of my biggest knocks with skil so far. Need a better chuck. But this here gizmo isn't meant for heavy work. More of a utility item for around the house maybe some light diy.
Otherwise, I been happy with the other skil tools I have so far, especially the router for a entry-mid level one

tbh, I think you can get a more rugged, powerful and reliable set of separate drill with variable speed via the trigger switch and impact plus two batteries and charger at that price from Amazon, Harnor Freight, Lidl or the likes. From the old days I have love for the Skil brand but this just aint cutting it.

      Nope
I hang curtains for living and this is not getting through metal brackets or concrete
Shape is also terrible for drilling too close to ceiling

@@AntonioAugusto1010 Yesterday I hung blinds in bathroom and upper staircase using this tool. I had no problem drilling metal or issues with space. Yes concrete I would use hammer drill but no concrete by my windows. It did fantastic. Mine came with a 2ah 20v battery. I did staircase with that and could have done many more with that battery but grabbed a 12v to test with bathroom. Definitely slower speed on 12v but no problem with task at hand. Next I will be using it to replace Mortise Keyed Lock Set on interior doors.

@@AntonioAugusto1010 Just did another one today with this tool. No problems. I did use 20v battery instead of 12. While I am not a professional blind/curtain guy I did replace over 60 blinds at work 5 or so years ago with regular drill. Granted it may be a little easier but periodically installing with this tool is not a problem. Also replacing hardware on 9 doors. One door completely done and another door I have lock done. Lots of drilling and driving and no qualms. Now I don’t think I’d use it as a full time curtain/blind installer or full time locksmith or cabinet repair person but as a home owner or as a handyman or apt maintenance it is a fine tool.

Interesting review, thanks for doing these. Older guys like myself remember when skill was one of the top tool brands, if you doubt it ask an older carpenter about the SKIL Worm drive circular saws, and while many of us DIYers have moved onto cordless tools from Milwaukee, etc., I do enjoy seeing some of the creative tools coming out of SKIL, Porter Cable, Ryobi, and others.
Realistically, most homeowners will do just fine with the “Lesser” brands out there.
Most of the lower end products really seem to have stepped up their game from when the market sank a few years back and most of them are actually better than tool snobs give them credit for. I agree that if you need a tool that can take a beating, you are better off paying for the extra durability of the premium brands however.

Skil and Skilsaw are two totally different things. My tablesaw, two of my four circular saws (the other two are Festool) AND my miter saw are all wormdrive. They are all Skilsaw. My sliding 12" miter has crown molding stops, an LED cutline, and is so solidly built. And it's all wormdrive. It was $650 when I bought it, not the most expensive but I love them all. I have two Skil wired orbital sanders that were $35 each. I use them when i don't want to pull out my 20v Dewalt. I've put both of those sanders through their paces, and all I've replaced is the pad. And if you buy a nice pad for it, you will totally upgrade your sander. The guy who started Bosch is one of the two inventors of wormdrive, which might explain why their tools are pro grade and innovative. I'm on the Dewalt platform, so I'm not some fan boy. And to be honest, idk what the point was to anything I just wrote. I want the Skil nailer, see how it holds up. Great video as always my man, thanks for showing that Skil tool. Appreciate you keeping us entertained and informed.

You’re right I wouldn’t let my framers use skil products because they are a rough bunch and only Milwaukee stands up to their brutish ways but if a plumber or electrician showed wants to use them I’m sure they would get more than their moneys worth for a long time. The next version will likely have improvements and more useful features.
As for the brand, it used to be one of the best for the money. I don't know how it is now, with the way some companies make their products have built in flaws that makes you have to go buy another one after a couple of years. I don't know if Skil is one of those companies. I had a professional Skilsaw, that could take a 10 inch blade. It was a workhorse of a powertool. It wasn't cordless, and I liked that. When batteries get low in power, the tool tends to get less powerful. With a power cord, you don't have that problem.

@@IndieGuvenc Sorry man but you have no idea how 3D printing works, its limitations, or its applications. New tools are made with the injection molding you know and love.

Cool find! Any word on the batteries ? Are they compatible with anything else on the market ? I would assume that the manufacturer behind Skil would invent yet another battery ecosystem…?

This is just a revamp of the 90 deg twist head, been on the market for years, even with a proper chuck on one side, never took off though.

@ToolReviewZone so it actually charges the phone at superfast pace? Wow
The m12 does have the fast charge feature and the m18 tower has the superfast with the USB-C

You don't need an impact when you have a pilot hole the one thing I can see being a problem is the length of drill bit one can put in there but I guess a guy wouldn't be driving huge fasteners with it

Just use a tampon pro flip bit holder. Works better and you can use an ending drill

WORX makes a 20v drill that does the same thing, just a different design on how the 1/4 chucks swivel. I believe I remember in the 00's, there was an "as seen on TV" version that was the same design as the currently available WORX model. Kinda cool, but also kind of gimmicky concept, especially when it's almost just as fast to swap out 1/4 drive bits with a normal driver that won't have the potential problems this may have. Would be interesting to see a teardown video of the SKILL vs. WORX designs.

Saw a video of a guy compare it to the M12 hammer drill.. It's not a good comparison. It's actually better compared to the installation driver; I mean just looking at it just kind of makes sense.
Although, I do sorta wish one of these brands made a 12v copy of the "electric screwdriver" that Bosch has, it's SUPER compact! I don't own one, I don't want more battery platforms lol... But I can definitely appreciate stuff like this, Skil has a sexy design with it tbh 👍🏽

Another option would be something like a Dewalt drill flip drive kit for around 16 bucks.

_When_ RYOBI introduces their version, they should put a 3 jaw chuck on one side.
